I can't afford to throw half of it away (which is what I'm doing)I've been searching for another brand I can switch to. I'm not bashing open farms. I think since their food is all natural and all that they are unable to make a consistent product. Cats are picky.

So far so good. My 15+ year old kitten is eating less. So I tried Rustic Blend and she loves the liquidy (?) part the best. She isn’t too infatuated with the pumpkin bits or some of the solids, but I am hoping that she can get enough to sustain her through that liquid. She is eating some of her Raw Mix as well, but her appetite is constantly changing. She would probably only eat Chicken broth if I let her but that wouldn’t provide the nutrients she needs. I am so very thankful that the wonderful staff at Open Farm have been so supportive.

I always try to source the healthiest meals for her, but for the next month and a half I got a notice that her current wet food would be unavailable. So, I scoured the internet for what the cat nutrition experts had to recommend as the next best thing, and stumbled upon this brand. I was really excited, as I have never heard of a company prioritizing sustainability and humane animal production as much as Open Farm does. From high-quality, ethically-raised and gathered meats, an appropriate cat nutrient profile in every recipe, rave reviews from finnicky eaters and recyclable TerraCycle-compatible packaging, I was extremely excited about every aspect of the product ... MoreMy dear cat's name is lofi, she is a sweet young girl who usually prefers her dry food to her wet food. From high-quality, ethically-raised and gathered meats, an appropriate cat nutrient profile in every recipe, rave reviews from finnicky eaters and recyclable TerraCycle-compatible packaging, I was extremely excited about every aspect of the product before I even made my first purchase.I started with a pack of the Chicken Rustic blend, which I was able to get at a sale through the subscription option and an email opt-in discount, and eagerly awaited delivery to my home. Open Farm generously provides tracking options every step of the way, so I always knew where the package was. An extra note- while I was waiting for the product I also browsed where the closest Open Farm products are sold, and was happy to see that most if not all of their products were officially sold through small businesses across the United States. I love supporting small businesses, so this was just one more aspect of the company that had me happy to support them already.I did not have to wait too long for the food to arrive, as true to their promise, Open Farm delivered to my doorstep within 2-3 days of placing the order. Actually, I only had to wait about a day and a half. That's faster than the wet food I ordered from Amazon Prime!I eagerly bring the food inside my home, and the exterior packaging was nearly as true to Open Farm's sustainability promise, save for one shrink-plastic wrap around the 24 case of wet food. But otherwise, no tedious plastic dry ice packaging, no unnecessary extra packaging peanuts. Just an exterior cardboard box, a cute little recyclable "welcome to the Open Farm family" brochure, as well as the food itself. The little cartons were so cute! They were like little juice-boxes, but full of meat blends. Meat-boxes. They were a little smaller than anticipated, but that's ok, because that means they don't take up a lot of shelf space. I was also extremely impressed with how shelf-stable they were - each carton just needed to be used before the year 2023, so I had a full 2 years to get through a set of boxes that my little family could probably easily get through in about 1-2 months. There were some reviews talking about how hard it was to open the packaging, I disagree. I thought the packaging was extremely easy to navigate and open. They key was to squish out the top of the box until it was flat, resembling more of a Caprisun pouch than a box before ripping, and then the perforated edge ripped off no problem. I immediately noticed upon opening just how good the food smelled - Open Farm wasn't kidding about human-grade, and I was very tempted to try my own cat's food. I did not, and let her savor it all. I found the blend to be more of a watery consistency than a stew, but nonetheless it made it easy to poor out. By the time I reached the bottom of the box, I could just poor in a splash of water, shake up the box and poor the remains into her bowl, which I found much easier than scraping up the extra bits in a can. Putting away the box was also extremely easy. True to how Open Farm demonstrated in their videos, I simply folded the box and stored in my refrigerator for use later on in the evening. And most importantly, feeding the blend to my little lofi was the most gratifying part - immediately when I opened the box, she was very enticed by the smell, the same as myself. Usually, when I give her wet food in the evening, she'll take a few generous licks and leave the rest for the remainder of the day. However, with this stew, she immediately loved the flavor, and ate the whole thing over the span of about 5 or so minutes. I was extremely happy! She usually only eats her meal this quickly when it is her dry food, or if it's her little Inaba Churu meat treats. I let her lick the box, because she was that excited for more.I have not signed up for TerraCycle yet, but this product has me excited to do so. In the meantime, it is nice to know that the box alone as well as a majority of the extra packaging are recyclable on their own.As far as any recommendations for the company, my only wish is that they offer more variety for cat-owners, as the company itself seems to serve dog-owners first. If possible, I also wish it were easier to try their kefirs, which are only available in their stores. And of course, if there were a way I could receive the product with even less plastic, I would be extremely happy.I have already recommended Open Farm to two of my close friends and will continue to rec

Highly recommend.
24 February 2024

My cat is obsessed with the chicken recipe. The consistency is more on the liquid side and the smell is bold, took a little getting used to. I enjoy the carton container it comes in, I can bend the bottom and roll it like a tube of toothpaste utilizing as much food in the container as possible. I see a noticeable sign in my cat’s coat, shinier and softer. He is a picky eater and he loved this food from the very first carton.

I gave 4 stars because
25 April 2024

I gave 4 stars because all 4 of my cats loved the flavor or this wet food but not the texture. They all like pate. Because I know Open Farm pet food is high quality, I tried the canned chicken pate. All 4 of the cats have transitioned to this. Before Open Farm, one of my cats had runny eyes and itching skin around his face that he scratched until bleeding. After switching to Open Farm canned pate his eyes no longer drip and his skin is cleared up. He no longer scratches his face.

I have 6 cats, none were thrilled, sorry.
7 May 2024

I do not like wet catfood in cardboard containers. The catfood is runny, the containers are a pain to open and I cannot recycle this type in my area. You can always recycle cans. Cats did not care for the runny food. The dry food,I do not know whether they care for the flavor, but I do know that none of my full grown cats will eat any food that is the tiny kibble. The kibble is kitten size and they just do not care for that. I wish companies would advertise the size of the kibble. Sorry but all 6 cats were a hard no on both wet and dry food. I do like that you list every ingredient and where you source them from.

Just ok

I love the clean ingredients list and the fact the animals are humanely raised and you can trace the ingredients back to the source. The reason for three stars is one- the consistency. It is more like a soup and mush- they ground up the meat and it's not appealing- not to me and not to my cats. The wet food I gave them before was chunks of meat in gravy. So consistency-wise, this is a major downgrade even if everything else about it is an upgrade. My cats refuse to eat it since it doesn't look appetizing and compare to what I was feeding them before. Needless to say, this will be a one-time purchase. Had I know this was the consistency of the product, I would not have purchased. Hoping Open Farm releases a formula in the future that is actual chunks of meat in gravy ... MoreI love the clean ingredients list and the fact the animals are humanely raised and you can trace the ingredients back to the source. My cat eat's anything and he won't eat this
10 February 2024

I really liked the packaging and the marketing /reviews I read online sold me on a healthy sustainable product with an A+ rating. It wasn't until I got it home that I realised there is a high quantity of vegetables, and plant based products. I don't think coconut oil, chick peas, and carrots and pumpkin are species appropriate. I have never had a problem with my cat not eating something, but he turned his nose up at this, even when I laced it with his favourite treats. I tried and tried thinking if he was hungry he might come around but he did not.

Picky Cat Approved
2 February 2024

I have a picky eater who has to take a powder medication intended to be mixed or sprinkled on food. I tried everything…and I do mean everything from high and reluctantly to what I consider inferior quality food. At my wits end I found Open Farm. I liked the quality but still assumed it would be another failed attempt and the unopened cartons would be donated. Since day one and every day for over 2 months he has eaten every bite of the food. I can finally rest easy knowing he is eating quality food, getting his medication and I’m not forcing the medication down his throat. Thank you Open Farm!

Well I can say that my Kitties like this one better than the turkey. However, they aren’t too excited about this one either. (I bought the dog wer food also and my dog will barely eat it). I’m not having the best luck here. Lol. I love everything about yourcompany but it may not work out, unfortunately. I do have one suggestion - PLEASE change your packaging for the wet foods! It is AWFUL! I don’t usually complain, but it is messy, difficult to get the food out when refrigerated and just not user friendly, per se.
