The best guinea pig food on the market!Oxbow Garden Selects is hands-down the best small animal food you can buy in stores. It has a moderate calcium content (no Calcium Bicarbonate!), no extra sugar from molasses, and appropriate amounts of FORTIFIED vitamin C. All the ingredients are also non-GMO!Compare this with something like and you can see the difference. Oxbow's first 3 ingredients are Timothy Grass, Oat Grass and Orchard Grass. Kaytee's first 3 are Sun-Cured Alfalfa Hay, Ground Corn, and Dehulled Soybean Meal... umm yuck! Alfalfa's high calcium content may even cause stones as they get older. All three of my boys took to this food instantly. It also requires feeding a lot less (1/8 cup compared to 1/4 - 1/2 cup for other brands), so the price difference ... MoreThe best guinea pig food on the market!Oxbow Garden Selects is hands-down the best small animal food you can buy in stores. My three adult males go through roughly 1 bag every month. I try to buy it on sale (usually ~$12), so it works out to $4/month for an individual pig. I'm sold!

This brand is such a high quality brand, with so many of their products being great to give to pets. I have never gotten a bad bag, and it always smells fresh each time I open it. There are so many good nutrients and vitamins formulated in the pellets, which are so good for guinea pigs. The pellets are not big, but not small.

This pet food was recommended to me by our vet, it is a healthier food than I had been giving my piggy before and for the most part he really likes it a lot. His old food wasn’t as nutritionally balanced and was cheaper, but this is a healthy, good quality food! I do wish that they would mix in little pieces of fruit and veggies in with this food because at first he really did miss that “lucky charms” aspect that this food doesn’t offer. So, I have mixed in dried fruit and nuts and he likes it even more that way! This is a Timothy based pellet which is really important for Snickers, he can’t have Alfalfa because that contributes to bladder stones and he is on medication to prevent those. This food is more expensive than others and they could give a bit more quantity ... MoreThis pet food was recommended to me by our vet, it is a healthier food than I had been giving my piggy before and for the most part he really likes it a lot. Cut bag
10 September 2024

Very disappointed in chewy. I received my order, the guinea pig food had a slice in it, which caused most of the food to turn to powder. I cannot believe that chewy shipped an item that way. Will never order this kind of food again from them.

Good Food
29 September 2023

My guinea pigs did not like the normal Oxbow food, so I didn't think they would like this very much. But when I gave it to them, they loved it! They did not even need to be transitioned from the old kind. I was very surprised because they are very picky. On nutrition I would give this four stars.

Interesting scent
15 July 2017

I ordered these pellets bc there was no soy in the top 3 or even 5 ingredients and felt it was a healthier alternative to the other oxbow pellets I've been getting. The bag is 4 lbs less as opposed to the 5lb bag that the cavy essentials equivalent comes in, but I actually don't think you're getting less quantity wise. They feel a little lighter, which is probably due to the ingredient list vastly differing from the essentials pellets. At first I found the scent jarring, having a strong scent of rosemary and thyme. I worried a bit about these pellets having rosemary and thyme since I've learned that they shouldn't be fed to guinea pigs regularly due to high calcium content. However, the percentage range of calcium for these pellets are the same or similar to cavy ... MoreI ordered these pellets bc there was no soy in the top 3 or even 5 ingredients and felt it was a healthier alternative to the other oxbow pellets I've been getting. However, the percentage range of calcium for these pellets are the same or similar to cavy essentials so I'm sure that any calcium they've added is adjusted to accommodate for different ingredients. My four girls like the pellets. I gradually shifted them over from the essentials and they're eating them just fine. Poops look good, no cloudy urine from my problem pig. Everyone is maintaining a healthy weight. I'd like to finish a whole bag before determining if I'd repurchase, but as of right now, I don't see why not. It's worth a try!

Not necessary for baby pigs
19 September 2020

Don't get me wrong. I love Oxbow products. Just need to tell you that different foods and hay(Alfalfa) is not necessary for baby pigs. I fed this to 2 of my girls who I started at 1 month old and my 3rd girl after they had been weaned from it. They are all on the "adult" version and they love it. My newest baby girl is 7 weeks and I tried to start on same "young" formula. Extremely difficult to do since it supposed to be fed as desired. Separating her from the other 3 at multiple times throughout the day is next to impossible. And she didn't seem to be eating much of it. When she rejoins the older 3, she seemed to be eating there adult pellets and seemed to prefer them.I got so worried about it I asked a vet on a Guinea Pig Forum and she said not to feed Alfafa at ... MoreDon't get me wrong. When she rejoins the older 3, she seemed to be eating there adult pellets and seemed to prefer them.I got so worried about it I asked a vet on a Guinea Pig Forum and she said not to feed Alfafa at all. That includes alfalfa hay also. So I am much relieved and life will be easier for all of us. What I am upset about is Oxbow pushing adult and yong formulas that aren't necessary and maybe harmful. The expense is another issue. So if you want to feed this, go with the adult food and you can be sure your little one can get calcium from veggies. This food is totally not needed in alfalfa based "young" piggies formula.

Oxbow products are the best
13 February 2023

Started with the young pellets and then adult pellets no problems with the change. I also get the regular formula and use the garden formula for a nice treat. I Started this from the beginning and never had any problems. Both are just pellets no extra stuff

Oxbow Garden Select is a complete, well-balanced guinea pig food. I am confident in using Oxbow products. My veterinarian uses them as well. I wouldn’t feed my guinea pig any other brand

oxbow Guinea dry food
6 February 2023

My Guinea pigs absolutely love this dry food! They are extremely picky and this is the only thing they like! It’s high in fiber and has a blend of 3 different hays! It’s got all the right vitamins and minerals and I couldn’t be happier with it! I will continue to purchase this dry food for as long as I have Guinea pigs!
