OXO Good Grips Coarse Etched Grater

I'm a big fan of OXO kirchen gadgets, and when I tried their Good Grips Etched Coarse Grater I was not disappointed. It's sturdy and easy to hold even under the stress I put it under when I grated a rock-hard chunk of Parmesan. I also grated a stick of butter to use in a struesel topping and the butter curls easily slid out from the grater without clogging up the holes. Cleanup was a breeze. Please be aware that the grater holes are VERY sharp, so use with caution. I will find many uses for this very versatile, quality kitchen gadget. Once again, a standout OXO product!

I am really impressed with how well thought out this grater is. The bend of the handle makes holding it while using it a pleasure. The shape of the holes gives you very nice, thin slices of cheese, versus the heavier, thicker pieces that come from other graters. I was especially impressed with the protective cover as it means I can store it in a drawer and not worry about the edges being dulled, or accidentally nicking or cutting my finger when reaching for another utensil. I would definitely purchase again, and I am severely tempted to purchase the other two graters that are medium and fine.

I was nervous that this "medium" grater would be too big for grating fine items like hard cheese and citrus zest, but the OXO website said that this item was appropriate for those things, and so I ordered one.I can report it is FANTASTIC for those items and more. In fact, I'll probably never use my Microplane grater/zester again. By comparison this OXO etched grater is easier to use, makes faster work of hard items, is MUCH easier to clean, and is easier to store. Things don't get stuck to it the way they do with the Microplane, and I love that the plastic cover protects the blades without coming in contact with them. That means I can wash the grater and then replace the cover and throw it in the drawer without waiting for it to completely dry. Great item.
