This salad spinner is quite an upgrade from the cheaper Prep Works version that served us well for more than 15 years. Over time, the PrepWorks spinner became hard to get the lid to fit on straight so the spinner would engage smoothly. The Oxo spinner is made of heavier material and the spinning mechanism engages immediately. The Oxo also has an almost effortless spin mechanism with the push button lid, and the quality of the fit shows when it spins since it can go forever on just a few pushes -- better than the pull cord on the PrepWorks, especially if you have arthritis in your hands. The Oxo is made of high quality materials and the one I gave my sister 20+ years ago is still as sturdy as it was the day she got it. The bowl is big enough to hold a whole head of lettuce or kale so I wash my greens with the basket in the bowl, then I only have to lift the basket and pour out the water to spin them dry. Saves having to fill a perhaps-not-spotless sink with washing water. The only drawback is that the unit is considerably heavier than the PrepWorks spinner; this helps keep it from "walking" across the countertop when it is spinning, but it's also a chunky load, even when empty. And it does take a fair amount of time to air dry since the mesh in the basket is fairly small; this keeps smaller lettuce bits from escaping the basket when it spins, but it does hold water longer when drying. All in all, though, it is a much better option than a lighter-weight spinner. Just wish we'd traded up sooner.

Can fit 2 bunches of romaine hearts in one spin unless they ate huge. Does a good job spinning most of the water off the lettuce. Do far it has dishwashered fine without looking bleached as can happen with cheaper items. Inside colander basket is actually sturdy enough to use for rinsing cold items. I wouldn’t use it to strain hot ones. I lke it but it does take up most of the dishwasher. Didn't give it 5 stars only because it’s too new to tell how durable it will be

I am a huge oxo fan and love every product they make but this one is the exception. The product itself works well to extract the water from the lettuce etc. but my issue is that the top part used to spin doesn’t lock in like it’s supposed to. The first time I used it - I put it in the fridge and the push mechanism popped up and got stuck in the fridge!! I had a hard time getting it back down because it was spinning when I pushed the spinner down…. So frustrating! I ended up returning the item to get credit. I really was excited about this product but I think it needs a better locking system.

I had an XOX salad spinner for many years and it worked fine. Even though my old spinner worked fine I thought I buy a new one, and I got rid of the old one. The one I bought looked similar to my old one. It might be slightly smaller and the pump design has been changed. This new spinner is terrible! It doesn’t get the lettuce dry. The problem seems to be that the new pump design doesn’t spin as fast as my previous one did. I don’t understand why they took a good design and made it worse. XOX said they no longer have the old design. I guess my only choice is to buy a different brand.
I purchased this product because my former plastic spinner's gear stripped after years of use. I do not think that will happen with this product. I chose the smaller model to fit well (and it does) in my refrigerator, but it does not hold as much as the same size competitor brand. One reason is that the spinner portion projects into the center of the bowl requiring lettuce or herb leaves to be placed around the inside perimeter of the bowl. Therefore, if too much product is placed into the bowl, it does not dry well. Overall, it does not dry as well as my previous spinner. Please keep in mind that I am reviewing the mini model which is best for herbs. The larger model may dry well. The ability to stack on top of the spinner is an excellent feature that I did not ... The break feature is convenient.
Another OXO disappointment despite glowing reviews. Everyone seems to love this spinner, I just don't get it. I am returning it.I can only assume the other reviewers never had an old crank model. Mine worked superbly for many years, all manner of greens came out clean and dry. I think the issue here is the pump action unit. It protrudes down into the center of the bowl, making it hard to load and distribute the greens. And after the first push, it's difficult to get any traction on additional spins, which are absolutely required for the unit to work.I gave up after two or three tries, after each I had to reposition the greens and they still weren't dry. Now, I am not expecting the Sahara, but I don't want soggy salad, which was the outcome here.Sure, there are ... MoreAnother OXO disappointment despite glowing reviews. There is a brake to stop the spin action so you can reposition the greens, without this, the unit would be worthless. The pump knob may be locked down to minimize height for easy storage in the fridge, but that darn pump still protrudes downward into the bowl!Bottom line: I have enough colanders and serving bowls, I need a salad spinner that whisks away water without having to fiddle with it after every spin and one which produces a clean, dry salad.
We were looking for a replacement salad spinner which got a crack in the base. It was a pull-cord type, and it spun in both directions. I think that's a plus. This Oxo, the smaller one (we loved that it was more compact, and we're just a couple), with its push-button,plunger style mechanism, only runs in one direction. It doesn't dry AS well or quickly as the previous one we had. Is that because it's smaller and there's less air getting swooshed around? Or is it because it only runs in one direction? I don't know, but I'll say that the OXO is adequate, but not ultimate. But the real problem is after using it for about the third time, I chewed onto something hard when eating a salad. It was small, and I thought it might have been glass, as it was sort of clear. But when more closely examining the OXO, we discovered that TWO of the tines that engage with the basket and turn it had been broken off. We obviously accounted for one of the tines (the one that ended up in my mouth), but the other one?Anyway, we're going to take this back and hopefully BB&B will give us a refund.
This is my second OXO salad spinner. I wore the other one out. Sadly this one is the updated version and it does perform nearly as well as my original. Greens are still wet after multiple spins and rearranging leaves. I have to wrap the greens in a towel to remove enough moisture before storing in the fridge. Not worth the price!
This salad spinner is amazing. I haven't been this excited about a food preparation product ever. I originally was going to buy another spinner; however, after comparing the heavier spinner with this lightweight yet sturdy one and seeing a $20 lower price tag, the decision was easy. And after using this spinner I knew I had made the right decision. This spinner dries the lettuce as well as that expensive prepackaged lettuce. And it only takes a few pushes of the button. The cleanup is a breeze. We're eating healthier and cheaper now than ever before. Thanks for selling this great XOX product.
I didn't think I could be so excited over a salad spinner, but this is really the best. After spinning and drying your fruits/veggies, you can toss and directly serve in the bowl (thanks to its nice, simple design). The bowl can also store your leftovers and allows for stacking when not in use (push the pump down and lock it so that it's flush with the lid). For those curious about the size, there is a larger version of this spinner that measures about 11" wide; this one is 8" (and is perfect for a salad for 1-2 people).I love products that are nicely designed, work well, and are priced well—this meets all of that! (I purchased this during a big sale at Macy's and it ended up being cheaper than any website online. If you see this on sale, go for it!)
