The OXO Good Grips Glass Salad Spinner is a pricey must have kitchen tool for every fresh fruit, vegetable and salad loving person. OXO has taken a tried and true excellent product and made it better & more convenient, while helping to save the environment in the process. That’s a winning combination if there ever was one. What makes this salad spinner so different from all others, is the dual purpose large glass bowl that goes from cleaning to serving. Glass is so much better than plastic. I simply toss cut up fruits, veggies or salad into the colander to wash them, spin away the excess water with the easy grip pump and hit the built in brake. When I’m done, I empty the water out of the glass bowl, put my clean food back in and bring it to the table for serving or store it in the refrigerator for later. So simple, and eliminates the need for another serving/storage container!I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that there are a few down sides to this product. The built in lock that keeps the pump compressed for storage, is extremely difficult to unlatch. It has to be a defect in this unit, because my much older OXO salad spinner has the same lock/latch and it opens easily with just one finger! (I will notify OXO, their phone number is on the box, & they guarantee their products). Also, this heavy glass bowl does not have a non-skid base like previous versions. The weight of the glass bowl itself should be enough to keep it in place when using the easy grip pump, but be careful that it doesn’t slide on the counter because it’s wet. Lastly, many years ago my first OXO salad spinner came with a separate lid for storage in the refrigerator. This would be so helpful if they included it again or even if it could be purchased separately!

The substantial and thick glass bowl makes this salad spinner big and heavy. In hindsight, I would probably be happier with the stainless steel bowl version for its lighter weight. Either version is good because the bowl can be used for the finished salad, and when the plastic mechanism eventually goes, you have a useable bowl.Using the pump mechanism to get the spinner moving as fast as our older wind-up salad spinner takes some practice with timing. The spinner mechanism intrudes into the spinner bowl, effectively reducing capacity by a fair bit.

The idea that you can spin dry your veggies or salad items in a colander, and then use the functional glass bowl that comes with the product as a serving bowl is not new, but a glass bowl is quite an innovative idea in my opinion. It looks much nicer on the table than a stainless steel or a plastic bowl. The capacity is more than adequate for the needs of myself and my family. The salad spinner is very easy to use, made even easier by watching an Oxo instructional video on their web site. All that's needed is a one-handed pump action for spinning and the brake stops the basket from spinning in an instant. The whole thing comes apart easily so that cleaning is effortless. It can be placed in the dishwasher too. A lovely addition to my kitchen appliances.

The Glass Salad Spinner comes in 5 parts. The glass bowel, a two piece plastic lid, plastic basket and clear plastic base plate. Pieces are easy to wash and put together. This salad spinner operates just like the OXO plastic salad spinner. What is nice about this salad spinner is the glass bowel makes for a more elegant serving bowl. For salad green washing I like to soak my greens in the basket and bowl with a bit of water and white vinegar. I leave it to soak for a few minutes then remove the plastic basket to drain the water. After emptying the glass bowel of water I return the basket and begin to spin. The pump is easy to operate, although you do need a second hand to stabilize the bowl. Once done pumping, press the brake to stop the spinning. I like to empty the glass bowl of the water and repeat the pumping one more time. The spinner does a great job drying the greens, although I usually have little but of dampness left over. The only concern I have with this spinner is the glass bowl being quite heavy. A person with upper body or mobility limitations may find it to be too heavy. In that case the plastic spinner would be a better fit. The plastic base sits in the bottom of the glass bowel is for the basket insert to spin on. Remove the base before placing salad inside bowl. Lastly, the bowl could be used to store your salad/green in the fridge. Place the lid on the bowl and lock the pump in the down position for compact storage.
We have been eating more salads recently due to being more conscious for health and nutrition reasons so I was very happy for this salad spinner. This is my first experience using it and I had a very good experience. The spinner was a high quality, durable glass/plastic bowl combination with a cute black top. First you rinse your greens. Then basically, you put your greens like spinach, lettuce, kale, etc. in the main bowl, close and spin the liquid out. Last, drain the excess water. I especially like the way I can buy regular vegetables and mix it anyway I like instead of a pre-built salad kit that might not have the combinations I need. I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves making their own salads.
I received the salad spinner a few days ago and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. I had some fresh romaine hearts that I had been wanting to use for a Cesar salad, so I chopped them up, filled the bowl with water and got to work. Apparently the proper technique is to fill the bowl, dunk the strainer full of lettuce a few times, then strain the water out and spin. While the spinning is quick, efficient and quiet, I did find that some pieces of lettuce still stuck together and damp. I recommend spinning for a least 5 minutes to maximize the "spin cycle." What I really like about this product is that the glass bowl makes a very attractive serving bowl and storage is very easy. The parts are easy to assemble, clean and store. I keep the spinner in it's original box to prevent the bowl from being broken. The only reason this product did not get 5 stars is because it did not completely removed the dampness from the lettuce. I would definitely recommend this product to family and friends.
I really like this OXO Good Grips Glass Salad Spinner! I previously owned a cheap, plastic salad spinner and while it worked ok, over time, the main bowl became scratched up and unappealing and the parts were a hassle to clean. This glass salad spinner is really great quality! It does have a few plastic pieces still; the lid, spinner basket, and bottom insert piece are all plastic, but are mostly easy to wash. The lid is not really difficult to wash, but does take a little longer to dry out. The good news is after you initially wash it, you shouldn't really need wash it much. The spinning function for the lid works great, both spinning and the button for stopping. It quickly stops at the press of the button, so you can get on with your day. I like that you can even ... It's extremely generous in size and could accommodate large servings and copious amounts of ingredients! I'm not sure if this salad spinner got my greens quite as dry as my last salad spinner, but overall, I do prefer this product over my last in all other aspects.
This is a solid, quality salad spinner. It is very convenient because it has a heavy glass bowl and the spinner's base on the bottom of the bowl can be easily removed. It is much nicer to use the glass bowl as a serving bowl (lovely presentation). The entire spinner (the glass bowl, the spinner, the two-part spinning mechanism) is exceptionally durable. The spinner has a large pumping button on the top of the unit, which is easy to use and starts the spinning process. A great "brake button" literally stops the spinning motion very quickly. I haven't seen any salad spinner with this feature. I love this salad spinner. I’ve had several, pricey plastic ones that have all worn out. Pieces have broken, the cord that pulls and powers the spinning motion, has snapped in half, all gone before their time.I eat plant based so this baby gets a lot of use. The glass bowl keeps any bacteria from transferring and being absorbed, unlike the plastic competitors. The push action top solves the “flimsy cord” issue and to be honest, this is just nicer to look at. It’s worth the money, just treat yo self.
I love OXO Good Grips Glass Salad Spinner. The glass bowl has a good weight and thickness to it and since it is clear it is easy to see that the lettuce is dry. I also love that the bowl doubles as a great sized salad serving bowl. It spins strong enough to get all the water off of the lettuce and the break button stops the spinning immediately. It stays in place when you are pumping the top as well as when it is spinning, the bowl stays put. The plastic basket works great for rinsing a good amount of salad greens and putting it directly into the salad spinner. It took a few minutes to figure out how to get the pump part to come unlocked and pop up since there was no instruction booklet but I figured it out and I really like that the pump retracts and locks so it ... It is dishwasher safe but it is just as easy to hand wash it. This salad spinner saves me a lot of time when washing and drying salad greens, not to mention the many paper towels I was using. I highly recommend this salad spinner, it works perfectly.
