Bit fiddly, instructions and recipes awful, but can work!

The instruction manual is particularly unhelpful as it covers several different models with very different processes. It's full of flow diagrams, asterisks, various icons you have to look up a key for etc., etc. It would have been so much clearer if they'd just gone to the tiny effort of producing different manuals, or at least splitting different models across different pages. I've also tried numerous recipes and got weird mis-shaped lumps which aren't particularly appetising. But, as I learnt with my previous machine, it is all about practice and trying multiple different recipes to find one that works for you. You then stick to it! Haven't tried the 'sourdough' recipe yet, but was disappointed that it uses yeast. So, in summary, it's OK. But not great. Panasonic could do way better.

Again, not a disaster and doesn’t interfere with the operation.

Great for bread
5 May 2024

I've only tried out 4 programs so far, but the machine excels at bread. Every loaf has been well risen, great texture and flavour. However, the last program I tried (from the manual) was panettone. Followed the instructions carefully, but what emerged was almost, but not entirely unlike panettone; very dense and cake-like, with a poor structure. I may try again as a recipe can not work one day then work the next. The machine runs quietly and the timer function is great. Overall it does exactly what I wanted and I'm very happy, but I'm not convinced it can do enriched dough recipes very well.

Great machine
2 March 2024

I mainly use this with pre-mixed recipies I'm afraid but have used several times with flour, yeast etc which have turned out great - apart from once where I put on an overnight timer and I think the yeast might have reacted badly to the time and didn't rise. The pre- mixes have turned out fine by the way.I also agree with another comment here, where the complaint was that the display and buttons were on the top of the machine, meaning those of a smaller stature have to stand on a step or tiptoes. I don't have to, but it is unnecessarily awkward. It looks like all breadmakers are like this for some reason - all microwaves have buttons on the front so why not breadmakers? Also - using it today it started vibrating excessively during the kneading process - so I'll ... MoreI mainly use this with pre-mixed recipies I'm afraid but have used several times with flour, yeast etc which have turned out great - apart from once where I put on an overnight timer and I think the yeast might have reacted badly to the time and didn't rise. The pre- mixes have turned out fine by the way.I also agree with another comment here, where the complaint was that the display and buttons were on the top of the machine, meaning those of a smaller stature have to stand on a step or tiptoes. Overall I reccommend this machine - it makes great bread.

Just as I had hoped
4 May 2024

After reading lots of reviews and watching lots of videos, I decided that this one was for me. All automatic but with manual overrides. I have been making bread by hand for some time, but the loaves, all wholemeal, were quite heavy and time-consuming. You have to be not too far away from the process for about half a day! This is now magic, 15 minutes' preparation, switch on and leave. It produces a light fluffy loaf even though I use the same ingredients as when baking by hand. I made a couple of white loaves as well which were absolutely perfect. I will try the nut dispenser in the future which I'm sure that will be good too.

I give a respectable 4 but could be a 5 if the instructions was a bit more clear. However!Great bread maker brought this during Easter Weekend 2023 and works really well. Have made x2 bread thus far. My only area of improvement is that the instruction book was a bit confusing as it has two models in It refers to. The one above is the model SD-R2530 (for those who are wondering) this bread maker doesn’t have a yeast dispenser, but all you need to do is add the yeast into the bread pan on the side (refer to the manual book for steps. So you can still use the bread maker, no need to panic! Wait till the bread pan is cool then add some lukewarm water only just to cover the bottom leave for 30mins to soften. Pour water out, then underneath the bread pan there should be a grey nozzle on the opposite of the kneading blade. Hold one side of the nozzle and the kneading blade inside the bread pan, then screw the opposite direction to pop out the kneading blade. Clean the area and the kneading blade. ✨Other than that it is a great investment for us to have. Can bake bread and save some money in the process. As you all know, the cost of living these days for just essentials like bread, butter, eggs and milk is out of this world. So if I you make things a bit cheaper and by a bread maker than this is a great option.

Not an improvement on previous machines
6 November 2024

I am very disappointed in the design. Presumably is was designed by a 6'4" man, with no thought for those who might be shorter. My daughter is 5'2" and I am 5'7" but neither of us can see the tiny screen that is situated at the back of the machine without tipping it towards us. Even if the machine is situated at the front of the worktop, with the attendant waste of space behind it, it is very difficult to read the screen. My previous machine SD-ZB2502 was excellent with the controls at the front and it was easy to see both the screen and the menu. I have bought Panasonic bread makers for years and this machine is not user friendly. This machine also takes up more space on the worktop.

Not as good as my old Panasonic SD-257
21 July 2024

This was bought to replace an SD 257. Unfortunately it is not as user friendly as the old machine. It is bigger, it may do more but I really just want to make dough and wholemeal bread. In comparison to the old machine the screen is smaller, and the print is smaller and harder to read. The screen is on the top flat surface, other rather than tilted towards one as on the old machine. This means I have to tilt the new machine towards me to read it.Most annoyingly the new machine continues to beep when finished, until you turn it off. The old machine would beep for a short period and then be quiet. This was much better for making bread to be ready in the morning. This was the closest comparable appliance to my old machine.

Problems with new model

This is my 3rd Panasonic breadmaker. I first bought one in the 90's. I have always been very pleased with them, until now. Firstly, I couldn't find stockists where I could physically see one. I bought directly from the Panasonic store but had the Grand choice of a couple of models in various colours. I find this one a backward step from my last one bought 11 years ago. That had a separate yeast dispenser. This doesn't. On reading through the recipe manual I see that the quantity of sugar, in all recipes, has more than doubled, from 2 teaspoons to 2 tablespoons!
