I took delivery of this yesterday to replace my eight year old base model Panasonic Breadmaker. Because my old model was the bottom rung and had a spelt bread setting I foolishly assumed this model, one up from the bottom would. Buyer beware, and I should have checked ( though you do need to scour the info) more carefully. So I'm disappointed with this machine because I use a bread maker for spelt bread. I will use the Rapid Wholemeal setting instead. Feels cheaper made too than my old one.

This was bought as a replacement. Our existing Panasonic breadmaker was nearly 20 years old. It was still working, but the offer was too good to miss. This new machine seems just as good as the old one. I look forward to being able to use it for the next 20 years. The only minor niggle is that "Bleep" is not as loud as on the previous model.

This was bought as a replacement for an old SD253 model which lasted at least 10 years. One issue I have is that my favourite loaf has always been a 50/50 wholemeal/white loaf, which was one of the SD253's 101 recipes. It is not included in the 2530's 27 recipes which seems a backward step. However, I have used the 50/50 recipe in the new model and it worked fine. I imagine the same might apply to the other missing old recipes and would suggest trying them if you are in a similar position - so don't throw out the old instruction book.As others have said, the display is not the easiest to read, but I think I'll get used to it.The instruction book should be proof-read before the next print run to get rid of some annoying errors in the text - or am I being too niggly?

I am very disappointed to discover that this machine has no program for spelt or rye bread. These are the two types of flour I use most and I will now have the hassle of returning it to John Lewis. I do not normally return goods I have purchased but what else can I do with a product which has turned out to be not very useful? It was not made clear thatthese functions are missing. I don’t need the jam and cake making functions but I’d expect a breadmaker to make anytype of bread!
Good Points: The nut and raisin dispenser feature is very handy. The bread pan paddle design on the new machine SDR2530WXC is much improved over that of an older model machine SD-252 I have been using regularly for twenty or so years. The machine has functioned reliably in all that time.On the old design, when the loaf was removed from the bread pan, the paddle would occasionally detach itself from the pan spindle and be embedded in the bottom of the loaf. In turn when the paddle was removed from the loaf it could tear and leave a large hole behind in the loaf.In contrast the new paddle is more slim and better attached to the bread pan spindle so that so far when removing the loaf from the pan the loaf comes away from the pan easily and cleanly. This bread maker has created perfect bread from the first time we used it as beginners. The timer means we have woken up to delicious and warm crusty whole meal bread. Use accurate digital scales and follow the recipe in the book provided by Panasonic and it’s fail proof. The machine is also easy to clean. We are looking forward to exploring all the other recipe’s in the book. Highly recommended.
I've now used my Panasonic SD-R2530 for over eighteen months and enjoyed fresh bread daily. Initially, I was using recipes shown in the included handbook but found a 400g loaf, though tasty, was too large for two of us so I experimented by halving the Basic Rapid menu 2 recipe then adapting it to what we, and friends and family, like. I now regularly bake a loaf using a mix of wholemeal and white flour and add seeds. All who taste it like it and the Panasonic SD-R2530 Breadmaker has performed faultlessly - as long as I remember to add the yeast!
I have owned a panasonic breadmaker SD253 for about 20 years. It has always made tasty, well risen bread. The bread pan started to develop problems and having checked the cost to replace just this, I decided that it was probably more cost effective to spend a little more and replace the breadmaker instead. I looked at WHICH for their recommendations and picked the panasonic SD-R2530. I wanted to stick with Panasonic as I had always had such great tasting loaves. Unfortunately, I am now so disappointed and frustrated with both Panasonic and Which. The bread barely rises., the top of the loaf splits which suggests lack of proving and the inside of the bread itself, feels (difficult to describe) damp/rubbery. I know about potential reasons for not rising but I know my ingredients are fresh and correctly measured. I have followed the instructions exactly (and not new to making bread in a machine) . The bread is just not a patch on the loaf from previous machine. I don't know what WHICH is testing against.... and now due to this, I'm considering replacing the old breadpan so in the long run I will have paid twice the price.
