Patagonia has improved so much with this iteration and I am so happy to have reacquired this versatile hoody.The fit on this garment is much more streamlined than the previous years. I have a down sweater full zip, a couple snap T down sweater pullovers and a vest from around the 2014-17 era and they are so boxy in comparison. The length and cut is just right. The back dips a little which is something I prefer than a level bottom cut all the way around. Helps when bending over.I also really like what they have done with the hem on the cuff. I'm 5' 10", 190 lbs, athletic build and wear a large. I can wear it under an outer shell if TSHTF on a mountain, and I can layer pretty well under it also. My helmet fits well under the hood.When doing high output activity, the jacket is too warm even in 15F with low/no wind (I run warm when climbing, I get cold easy when sitting still).When sitting still, I can wear it comfortably in the shade at 45F.I chose those two statments to point out the range of wind, sun, temperature and activity levels the jacket works at.I've washed it twice (be careful, do your reading before washing down garments), and it's fine. I have many down jackets. TNF, Polo, Marmot, Canada Goose and even Kirkland from Costco ( purchased 7 years ago for $50. One of the best I have by the way-a superior Japanese quality). At the beginning, I mentioned that I have a lot of down jackets. I lived in different climates and I can easily determine the quality. Sometimes the company can claim that feather leaking is very natural for such type of jackets. This is not! Period. Again, I don't keep jackets that are loosing feathers. Non of my current jackets does. I believed that Patagonia should stand for the quality of the products it sells. This product should be recalled!

However, the hood when fully zipped is so tight that it digs into my chin and restricts my head movement. In other words, with the zipper in the fully up position the bottom of the face opening is on my chin and tight against it. Even if I pull it down below my chin it's still tight, digging in beneath my mouth. There is a cinch cord in the back. It comes fully extended when new, but just to make sure I wasn't mis-using it I cinched it tight. Yep, it was even tighter. This is really a mystery to me how the hood was designed. It's roomy just enough to wear a base layer and up to a non-bulky fleece sweater/jacket underneath.The hood fits fine but gets tight when wearing a fleece/wool hat.Your hands stay relatively warm as down is in front of the handpockets but do keep gloves in the pockets. Can be worn as an outer jacket while wearing insulation underneath down to low 40s F and barely into the mid-high 30s F. After asking about a strategy for controlling the loss of down on the underside of my arm sleeves, I was offered a replacement. I almost couldn't do it, finding that policy after so many years with a coat, to be a little unfair to the brand. The coat I had had given me years of warmth. But with much ... The intention was commendable, but the end result was not. The tape used to seal the paper shipping bag somehow was also accidentally affixed to the face fabric of the down hoody. I was able to carefully pull the down hoody from the tape, but this procedure required some care and patience to ensure I didn't damage the garment. Even when I freed the jacket from the tape, the adhesive left a nasty residue on the jacket. I was eventually able to clean most of the residue off, but this took a good deal of time and there's still a bit of tackiness that probably will require a machine wash to get off. I understand that Patagonia wants to reduce waste (especially plastic waste), and I support that goal, but the execution here was not what I expected from a top tier outdoor clothing producer.

It was my go to for everything including the casual hangout. When it finally started to kick the bucket I thought I could just get the same thing again for another decade without having to try anything new because my size is hard to find, but the new design killed that idea. After wearing this jacket for a winter season I have concluded that everything I loved about it is gone. The fit is too slim and too short, almost like a women's fit. I have a climber's build so slim at the waste but a little broader in the lats and shoulders and I feel cramped and can't easily raise my arms without it uncomfortably ... It feels like this jacket was designed to personal preference/ proportions without experience and it bums me out. Please, please bring back something closer to the classic style. In the mean time I'm looking for something else and lamenting my loss.
