Patagonia has improved so much with this iteration and I am so happy to have reacquired this versatile hoody. The fit on this garment is much more streamlined than the previous years. I have a down sweater full zip, a couple snap T down sweater pullovers and a vest from around the 2014-17 era and they are so boxy in comparison. The length and cut is just right. The back dips a little which is something I prefer than a level bottom cut all the way around. Helps when bending over.I also really like what they have done with the hem on the cuff. I feel like it will retain its composure longer and wont stretch out.The hood is also a welcomed improvement. Years ago I had this same jacket and always felt the hood was too large. This hood has a very good, tight fit that hugs the head with great adjustability and just enough room to go over my bike helmet and still be able to zip all the way up.The warmth factor is top notch and the jacket is shockingly light weight. Ive been using it coupled with my triolet jacket for cold NYC bike commutes and often find myself needing to dump heat.Overall I am very pleased with this jacket and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great layering piece or stand alone jacket.

My helmet fits well under the hood. When doing high output activity, the jacket is too warm even in 15F with low/no wind (I run warm when climbing, I get cold easy when sitting still). When sitting still, I can wear it comfortably in the shade at 45F.I chose those two statments to point out the range of wind, sun, temperature and activity levels the jacket works at.I've washed it twice (be careful, do your reading before washing down garments), and it's fine. I got it on sale I think about 7 years ago, and it's really versatile and looks like I'll get another 5-10 years out of it or more. It's a great jacket. It seems like the lightweight standard is now about 8 ounces and this one is 15 (I've weighed mine). I do think you get durability and warmth for the extra ~7 ounces. I do not wear it under a weighted backpack as I don't want to stress the jacket that hard and when I'm carrying weight on my back I'm always warm anyways.

I have many down jackets. TNF, Polo, Marmot, Canada Goose and even Kirkland from Costco ( purchased 7 years ago for $50. One of the best I have by the way-a superior Japanese quality). I even have Patagonia Down Sweater that I purchased a while ago. Not a bad Jacket. Cannot complain. I needed a packable light down hoodie- the jackets I have either don't have hoods or too heavy for travel. Since I have already Patagonia and it fits me well, my spose purchased for me this Patagonia Down Hoodie ( it was a gift). Honestly I like how it fits me. I didn't have a chance to test it until our trip to England in mid March. Oh my god! Seriously, I was completely shocked. This jacket has awful quality. Feathers are everywhere! I just cannot understand how a company like Patagonia can sell such a horrible product and charge a premium price. And yes, the price is high. The are few brands on the market that charge higher prices for similar products, but they usually target more fashion oriented customers. I always trusted Patagonia products. The products, you usually buy for a premium price, but without any doubts in performance or quality. This higher price should include a quality assurance. But the company is completely down with this product. Please stay away of this jacket and do your research for a better product. I wouldn't leave even a one star if I could. Perhaps, if you plan to use it only for your trip to the mountains or on camping you don't care about leaking feather. But, if you plan to use it, even partially, as a city jacket, or travel gear, be prepared to look like a chicken in a restaurant or a museum after you put it off. At the beginning, I mentioned that I have a lot of down jackets. I lived in different climates and I can easily determine the quality. Sometimes the company can claim that feather leaking is very natural for such type of jackets. This is not! Period. Again, I don't keep jackets that are loosing feathers. Non of my current jackets does. I believed that Patagonia should stand for the quality of the products it sells. This product should be recalled!

I ordered size Medium, as I wear in my other Patagonia fleeces and jackets. The body and arms fit well as expected. The jacket is warm, soft, and light, and a joy to wear. However, the hood when fully zipped is so tight that it digs into my chin and restricts my head movement. In other words, with the zipper in the fully up position the bottom of the face opening is on my chin and tight against it. Even if I pull it down below my chin it's still tight, digging in beneath my mouth. There is a cinch cord in the back. It comes fully extended when new, but just to make sure I wasn't mis-using it I cinched it tight. Yep, it was even tighter. This is really a mystery to me how the hood was designed. Unfortunately I had to return this jacket because I would never be able ... MoreI ordered size Medium, as I wear in my other Patagonia fleeces and jackets. The body and arms fit well as expected. Bought the XL hooded and non-hooded jackets ~4~5 yrs ago, similar red colors, so almost matching to an existing red down vest so a triple matching set. ;)It's relatively warmth and fits fine but.. the armpit/shoulder area Is a bit tight. It's roomy just enough to wear a base layer and up to a non-bulky fleece sweater/jacket underneath. The hood fits fine but gets tight when wearing a fleece/wool hat.Your hands stay relatively warm as down is in front of the handpockets but do keep gloves in the pockets. Can be worn as an outer jacket while wearing insulation underneath down to low 40s F and barely into the mid-high 30s F. If temps drop, the jacket acts like an middle insulation jacket underneath a heavier down parka for warmth.Be careful as the nylon is a bit ... Last week I went to the Patagonia store in Boston with my 8 year old hooded down sweater with no intention of replacing it, but rather pining over the new ones they had on the hangers. Jackets are a big investment at Patagonia and I have many in my closet at home. I have never returned one for any reason, keep my jackets for a long time, and often put them up for resale, when I was ready to move on, at a local Vermont outdoor store, where they often find a new owner. After asking about a strategy for controlling the loss of down on the underside of my arm sleeves, I was offered a replacement. I almost couldn't do it, finding that policy after so many years with a coat, to be a little unfair to the brand. The coat I had had given me years of warmth. But with much ... But with much encouragement, I bit on the offer and now have a new one. I will wear it with excitement and love and a commitment to the brand and the quality product that Patagonia is. Thank for putting me back in a Patagonia jacket. I've already gotten lots of compliments and I love it!
I received my down hoody in the middle of a heat wave and haven't yet had a chance to use it. But, based on owning similar jackets (both by Patagonia and otherwise), I can provide some insight.First, the good. This fits like a typical Patagonia jacket. I'm 6'1'' and 202 lbs. I ordered a large and this jacket fits well. I have room for a layer like a fleece or even a nano air jacket with ease, but the down hoody isn't too big to wear on its own. I think Patagonia has gotten better about consistency of its sizing and if you ordinarily wear a large in other Patagonia garments, this should fit well. The build quality and materials also seem nice and in line with what I would expect from Patagonia. Patagonia notes that this down hoody has more fill than previous ... The build quality and materials also seem nice and in line with what I would expect from Patagonia. Patagonia notes that this down hoody has more fill than previous versions, and the jacket does seem quite lofty for its category. Now the bad - the jacket was packed very poorly. In an apparent effort to reduce excess packaging, the jacket was not wrapped in a plastic bag, but instead was placed directly in a paper shipping bag. The intention was commendable, but the end result was not. The tape used to seal the paper shipping bag somehow was also accidentally affixed to the face fabric of the down hoody. I was able to carefully pull the down hoody from the tape, but this procedure required some care and patience to ensure I didn't damage the garment. Even when I freed the jacket from the tape, the adhesive left a nasty residue on the jacket. I was eventually able to clean most of the residue off, but this took a good deal of time and there's still a bit of tackiness that probably will require a machine wash to get off. I understand that Patagonia wants to reduce waste (especially plastic waste), and I support that goal, but the execution here was not what I expected from a top tier outdoor clothing producer.
I had my last down sweater for 10 years, wore it on three different continents and on countless climbing, hiking, skiing, running, biking and traveling adventures. It was my go to for everything including the casual hangout. When it finally started to kick the bucket I thought I could just get the same thing again for another decade without having to try anything new because my size is hard to find, but the new design killed that idea. After wearing this jacket for a winter season I have concluded that everything I loved about it is gone. The fit is too slim and too short, almost like a women's fit. I have a climber's build so slim at the waste but a little broader in the lats and shoulders and I feel cramped and can't easily raise my arms without it uncomfortably ... I have a climber's build so slim at the waste but a little broader in the lats and shoulders and I feel cramped and can't easily raise my arms without it uncomfortably constricting and letting in a bad belly draft. I'd go a size up but then the arms would be too long. They are already a bit long and without the elastic at the ends the cuffs get in the way...they keep getting in my oatmeal. When zipped up the neck is too tight and the hood is bunched up in the back. Even when the hood is on it's tight and squashes your face. There's no comfortable way to have it zipped all the way up so you have to leave it splayed open and in the way. Oh, and the hood is tiny, definitely not helmet compatible so wearing a shell over with a helmet is annoying because there's just this bunch in your neck. It feels like this jacket was designed to personal preference/ proportions without experience and it bums me out. Please, please bring back something closer to the classic style. In the mean time I'm looking for something else and lamenting my loss.
First off, my wife and I have other Patagonia products that we have been happy with. Also, we love what the company stands and how they stand behind their products. And for the most part, the hooded down sweater is a good product. I bought mine last year(tide pool blue) and its overall comfortable and a great weight for everyday. One reason I chose this jacket is because of the pockets. I like pockets in my jackets; its a work thing. That being said, one more outer chest pocket would be very nice. In addition, I would like the rip stop shell to be a little tougher. I very easily tore it very soon after buying it.The worst thing about this jacket is the hood and collar. This is my second one of these. I wore the first one out because I used it all the time. The temperature range on this jacket is amazing. Anything from -20c to +10 is the sweet spot for this jacket. Very comfortable and versatile. It is extremely light, like you hardly notice you're wearing it, and it packs down to nothing. The down is super high quality and there's no wind getting through this jacket. The hood is very comfortable and I actually use it a lot to block the wind. The jacket also looks good and has solid coverage for back, neck, hands. The only knock on this jacket is its durability. I use it virtually every day, for dog walking, winter/fall activities, and on cooler days, so it put up with a lot of abuse, but I would appreciate a little more durability ... Like I said, it is incredibly light, so I feel like Patagonia could trade some of the light-weight features to make it a bit more robust. Anyway, I bought it again, because the benefits far outweigh the durability issue.
