A lens every pentaxian should have

I bought this lens from B&H and it take 2 days to deliver to my office. Overall, I think this lens performance is better than the previous version, especially for built quality. I can say this lens is the best 50mm for PK mount. I think the image performance is better than DA* 55mm F1.4.The auto focus speed is fast and accurate on K-1. The Clamp function make manual focus much more easier.

An amazing 50mm macro

This lens is amazing, for a good price. I am using it with a FF K1 and with a K3II and with both cameras works perfectly. In normal mode (as a 50mm) and in macro mode zooms in and focuses very accurately, the sharpness is excellent, the color saturation is also very good. Construction is very nice and feels robust, it is made from high quality plastic but nothing wrong with it keeps the lens light. The mound is metal (and this is important).I am very pleased with this lens.

Does exactly what I wanted

I am a hobby photo person, not really an enthusiast. Usually I use an 18-250 Tamron lens which covers most of my needs, especially when travelling. I'm now getting more interested in photography, so I bought this lens particularly for informal portraits of family and friends indoors and for macros when I'm out and about. The points I like: very sharp lens, excellent image quality, great colours in the images. A great 50 mm all-rounder. Dislikes: sometimes the AF hunts backwards and forwards before making up its mind with close-up macro shots. This can slow down the capture of an image at times, but I can certainly live with it. Otherwise the AF is very accurate and very fast. Overall, I'm very happy with it and would buy it again in an instant, and would recommend ... MoreI am a hobby photo person, not really an enthusiast. Excellent for copying artwork.
14 March 2017

I got this lens for the sole purpose of copying artwork. With my K-1 with Pixelshift on, manual focus zoom, mirror up, AA filter off and tethered exposure, it delivers AMAZINGLY sharp images. I've found the sharpest aperture for this lens to be f/5.6. The only reason that I gave it 4 stars is because the focus is noisy.

Pictures worth $
16 November 2010

When this lens first arrived at my doorstep I opened the package and saw this very small lens I had just saved $ from my minor paychecks to buy. Starting to regret the purchase I attached it to my Pentax Kx and started shooting anything I could find. First it was screws and nails, then eventually coins stacked on top of one another. The lens sharpness is incredible and color rendition is superb. I really love the quick shift focus system going from auto to manual with a slide of the focus ring. The only problem I could see some people getting irritated about is if you are not trying to put one very small spot of the picture in focus this may not be the lens for you. Unless your subject at a macro magnification is completely side towards the camera everything else is ... MoreWhen this lens first arrived at my doorstep I opened the package and saw this very small lens I had just saved $ from my minor paychecks to buy. Being my first actual purchased lens for my hobby, I would do it again if I had to.

Solid 4 Stars
15 March 2017

I bought this lens to try out a Pentax system and was fairly pleased with it, especially the image quality. The coatings are not dust-resistant, however; there was dust on the lens before I could get the filter on, and I was never able to get it completely clean, which is different from my experience with my m43 equipment. Pentax would do well to produce a basic f2.8 zoom with more range and with image quality equal to this one, with improved coatings for dust resistance.

Value of this lens is excellent+ in an APS-C environment!
15 November 2017

My new fave lens! Very sharp and works great on my K3ii. All features specified are working perfectly and it is an excellent performer on my older film bodies as well. I love macro lenses and have several, plus several 50mm lenses with varying degrees of excellence. This new member holds up all the traditions of sharp & excellent optical quality. Many others have published opinions devaluing the plastic feel etc, but I have no issues with plastic! The value of this lens is excellent+ in an APS-C environment. B&H rocks with its excellent site and service, imo!

[Rewarded Review] Better build than expected
24 March 2022

I bought this specifically to photograph large art (66x66) painted by my client. Due to the size, I photographed it in 4 segments and stitched it back together in Affinity Photo. The segments are clear and crisp out to the edges so there are no issues with the final reproduction. A metal barrel w/o significant prince increase would improve the score to 5/5.

The lens was purchased to quickly “digitize” some 500 photoprints, dating back to the 1950’s. It worked very well, rivalling the results from my Canon scanner. I haven’t used it for any nature closeups yet. Absolutely no regrets with the purchase.
