A solid sub for when mom is at work

We tested multiple brands, and the Philips Avent Natural bottles worked for us, with some trial and error. My 5-month-old baby took to these bottles more easily than others, which I think has a lot to do with the nipple feel (we tried both flow 2 and 3 levels) and the bottle material. In theory, this nipple is supposed to mimic the natural rhythm of breastfeeding so that milk only flows when a baby is actively sucking, putting them in control of the pace. This is great for slower eaters or babies who tend to choke; it’s less ideal for lazier eaters or infants who sometimes need a little liquid incentive to keep at it, like my own. She did take to it with a satisfyingly deep latch—a little too well, in fact…I still sometimes have latch envy watching her suck in the nipple so easily versus my own—but also seemed a little frustrated about needing to work harder for the milk release versus a breastfeeding letdown.Every baby is different, of course, and a lot of her initial frustration likely had to do with a combination of being used to breastfeeding and also trying other nipples that allow milk to drip through passively. Overall, I noticed that my baby had fewer instances of choking/coughing but also took longer to eat—both of which I attribute to the “no-drip” feature. So far, we haven’t had issues switch hitting between the breast and bottle, likely due to the nipple material which is very soft and pliable, unlike the stiffer texture of a pacifier. And since she doesn’t have significant colic or gas issues, I can’t speak to the efficacy of the anti-colic valve. Ultimately, it’s a great product, although not perfect, and has made a place for itself in our baby’s rotation.Pros:- easy to assemble—just four parts- easy to clean—everything is dishwasher and sterilizer safe- very lightweight, ideal for a sleep-deprived, butterfingered parent at 3 am and also for a baby to (eventually? please say yes) hold for themselves- my baby took to this nipple pretty quickly (likely due to the texture and shape)Cons:- bottle cap is vented, which is great for letting the nipple breathe but doesn’t feel as hygienic when you’re putting the bottle into a diaper bag and germs could spread through the holes- 4 oz. bottles may be too small for your baby’s appetite, depending on their age and how much they’re eating at each feed- plastic bottles aren’t as great for the environment (but the glass ones are quite heavy)Things to consider:- the nipples may not be the best for newborns or poor eaters since the nipples only release milk when your baby is actively sucking and it can present a learning curve- select a nipple flow based on your baby’s established eating habits vs. their age. Our daughter is a somewhat impatient eater, and the recommended nipple for her age was a little too slow for her initially, which made her frustrated.

Any size, or material bottle brush is able to fit through the mouth of the bottle and get a good thorough clean scrub unlike other bottles. My daughter is combination bottle and breast fed. This set makes that switch seamless. Philips Avent Natural nipples really do feel like human nipples the way they function. Inside the nipple there are these silicone ripples that allow the baby to suckle just like they would nurse mimmicking the milk ducts in a breast. These ripples along with the no drip tip (GENIUS) help direct the flow the baby is trying to achieve from sleepy snacking, to intense nursing behaviors during cluster feeding. Because of this design and action it allows me to be worry free when I drop her off at the babysitters before work. I know she will eat and be able to be satisfied while I'm gone, with either pumped milk, or formula. The venting system and nursing action has cut down my daughter's gas and tummy discomforts by huge amounts. We had tried other anti colic bottles and she did not mind drinking from them, but they didn't help the gas problem. She actively wants this bottle sometimes more than nursing if shes having a bad tummy night. We dont have to be constantly stocked with gas drops since we started trying these bottles and nipples. My whole family loves using these nipples for her. The only thing I think isn't the greatest is the nipple flow rate I chose for testing this product. When I regustered with the Stellar Product testing panel my daughter was a little bit younger, and struggling with my forceful let downs. We started with the super slow flow nipple rate 1 and switched to the 2. It seemed to make her less frustrated using the 2 flow rate nipple. Even still as shes growing there's a range of nipple flows the Phillips Avent natural nipple line accomodates, and I can't wait to try more to find her exact perfect fit. Thanks so much to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this baby bottle set! It has changed my daughter's life and restored some of my husband and I's sleep.

He only ever nursed for about two weeks and then received breastmilk via a bottle after that. When we tried out the Philips Avent Natural Baby Bottles my baby immediately appeared SO much more comfortable while eating and was even able to hold the bottle a little bit on his own. The transition to theses bottles and nipples was seamless and my baby appeared even happier while feeding. I am personally very slow to advance the nipple sizes for my kiddos so we have been using the flow rate that came with the bottles which is 2 and this has worked great for us and my child hasn't seemed to be able to drink too quickly with these. I'd imagine I will transition to the next flow rate in another 2-4 weeks probably and see how he does. These bottles are also very easy to clean and put together and I love that they don't have any extra parts or hard to clean pieces. They have been very easy to travel with and haven't leaked while traveling with our diaper bag or in his backpack to school. I could tell my baby was so much more comfortable eating with these bottles that after just a few days I went out and got more so we made the entire switch to this brand. The only downfall we've found with these bottles are that the tops can be hard to get off. My husband and I don't have many issues getting the tops off but our parents all struggle with the tops when they are watching and feeding our baby. Additionally, when I go to add in the formula powder to the water, there isn't a whole lot of extra room at the top so I have to be careful to not add formula too quickly or some can spill out. This really hasn't been a significant issue for us so we just try to be mindful when adding formula to the water. I'd imagine with the larger 8oz bottles this wouldn't be a big deal as the 4oz are smaller with less room probably.

Great especially for nursing babies
5 January 2023

I really like Phillips Avent natural bottles, and started using them with my second child. I am a nurse, third time mom, and all of our kids have been breast-fed. With our third child, now 5-months old, we were delayed in getting her tongue and lip ties lasered so this meant we struggled with nursing for more than 3 months and implemented bottles of pumped milk early. Because she was struggling with nursing she struggled with these bottles initially as well. I was using ones that were left over from our second child with new newborn nipples. I was grateful to get this set from the Stellar parent product panel to try and review as well as it was a great addition to our collection. Because she was struggling with nursing she struggled with these bottles initially as well. I was using ones that were left over from our second child with new newborn nipples. I was grateful to get this set from the Stellar parent product panel to try and review as well as it was a great addition to our collection. This was my first time using the smaller Avent bottles-- the smaller bottles are definitely more convenient for traveling however, I typically like the bigger bottles better. Our daughter will sometimes drink 5-6 ounces which means we have to refill them for the end of the feed. This isn't all bad if you're trying to save breastmilk from waste, but an annoying step for an older baby so babies will outgrow this size pretty fast. My only complaint about these bottles is that she really has to lie reclined to be able to get all the milk out - it's hard when she's upright to get that last half ounce. Also, the lids fit a little bit awkwardly on the glass bottles by Phillips that I already had- the collars aren't on as smoothly and it’s hard not to over tighten. (The lids are great with the include bottles, though and definitely still work fine with all my Avent bottles, it just feels like it might be wrong on glass). Note that these bottles are plastic which our daycare prefers, but I preferred to store the milk and heat it in glass bottles so it’s great that Phillips has both plastic and glass bottles in a variety of sizes so that we can keep the same tops and nipples for all the bottles (I have glass 8oz Avent, plastic Avent 8oz and these 4oz). I definitely would have like to have a bottle that was maybe 6 ounces instead of four and eight because it feels like one is too small and one is too big. I have an easier time getting the last of the milk out of the 8 ounce bottle. I love the widemouth so that it fits with my spectra pump and encourages a wide "latch", but if your baby is having trouble nursing he may have trouble with these bottles... which I actually think is a good thing because it can help you identify the problem. It affirmed that these bottles are very consistent with the nursing experience because when my daughter was having trouble nursing, she had trouble drinking from these bottles. She loves them now that she’s not having any trouble nursing and she is not having any trouble with the bottles either and that’s great. Our baby has reflux and these bottles are about the same as nursing - sometimes it's a little easier to get a big burp. I am happy with both the stage two and stage three nipple (comes with size 2). When my baby is tired, she likes the faster flow of the third, but the #2 nipple that comes with it much more closely mimics my flow. I wish they would include the sealing disks, but luckily I had bought them separately. It's important to note that the tops have holes in them so if there is a leak, milk will still come out the top too, so it really only protects the nipple from germs, not the bottle from spills. That said, I haven't had any leaks using them with either included bottles or other Phillips Avent bottles. One benefit of the small size is they are easy for babies to hold - my 5 month old held them up to her mouth on her own today!

The shape is ergonomic and my baby seems to like them, I will say he is not the most picky in terms of this.To match my flow I like the 2 flow which is included, the 3 is a little fast even though he is 5 months, but I have started to use it a little more. The product is designed more towards breastfed babies, but with formula fed I would recommend starting from a 3. In terms of switching from breast to bottle feeding my baby has always done this with ease so I haven’t encountered any issues. One thing I have noticed is Phillips Avent always seems a little more slower/restricted than competitors like Dr. Browns. Personally, I’d rather just buy a faster flow rate and not have a bottle more prone to leaks. The bottles are easy to clean (I use the dishwasher) and assemble. I make sure with each wash the nipple is well dried as it has more ridges and is wider and deeper than other brands. As of now my baby is doing 4 oz feeds so the size suits, but as he is 5 months old now I will be buying the bigger bottles are he finds those easier to hold.My experience using Phillips Avent Natural bottles has been positive and I will continue to use these are my go-to!

Natural Feel Baby Bottle

Currently my son is 1 month old and unfortunately he is unable to latch appropriately to get proper flow going on a “natural nipple”. I was unaware of this until testing these bottles. Initially I thought maybe the nipple itself was just not the appropriate flow rate, so I tried the next level and that did not help either. I decided to visit my local store and purchase the next level from that, and again it delivered the same unfortunate results. My son has only been able to feed effectively with narrow nipples, and even after trying to feed for over half an hour he wasn’t even able to get half an ounce out of these bottles. Some of the features I did like about the bottles were the no drip design and the anti colic valves. These bottles TRULY do not drip and I did indeed put that to the test! I am very sad that these bottles did not work out for my son, because his current bottles do drip and the first level flow does not stop and allow him to breath and swallow in “natural rhythm”. So essentially he is always gasping for air while feeding. I believe if these bottles were available with a narrow nipple, my son could have a much more successful feeding. Furthermore, the shape and design of the bottles are nice and seem comfortable to hold. The bottles are also easy to disassemble and clean. Although these bottles weren’t a good fit for my son, I believe that anyone who breastfeeds and pumps should try these bottles for their little one for an easy transition.

Natural Response Philips Avent baby bottle

Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this baby bottle and nipples. I received one 4 ounces Philips Avent Natural Baby Bottle With Natural Response nipple and two Philips Avent Natural Response Nipples, Flow 1.My baby boy is 7 weeks and we have been using it since he was almost 6 weeks old. We are having an amazing experience with the product. Switching from a narrow neck bottles to this one has made it easier to pour the water and formula powder in. I am both breast feeding and giving him bottle, so this natural shaped nipple made a switch from other bottle very easy and reduced choking on milk while feeding and spiting after feeding. I am both breast feeding and giving him bottle, so this natural shaped nipple made a switch from other bottle very easy and reduced choking on milk while feeding and spiting after feeding. No-drip nipple design prevent milk from spilling and very convenient while I am switching sides during the feeding, I don’t have to put bottle down or worry not to tip it over and spill milk, it just doesn’t drip at all!!! Baby has became less gassy and more calmer and happier after feedings and I really connect it to him being able to control the flow and amount of milk he swallows, which has increased feeding times from 5-10 minutes up to 35-45 minutes, just like if he was naturally breastfed on both breasts. He can stop, take a break, breathe and get back to it at his own pace, I just really only need to hold the bottle for him. I’d probably try flow 2 nipple for him when he turns 2 months so we can experience different flow styles and choose from variety of flows to better address my baby feeding needs and adjust to how fast my baby eats because he is growing and appetite is growing as well! The bottle designed in such a comfortable shape and size so it’s very easy to hold it while feeding my baby but also takes zero effort to wash and put together, just three simple parts: bottle, nipple, bottle cap. The measurements marks are both in ounces and milliliters which is very convenient. I’d imagine it be more practical to mark the amounts from 100 ml to 120 ml range and not to jump to 125 ml, which is the top mark of the bottle, but it just might be my personal understanding. The bottle cap has 3 little perforations on top that prevent bad odors and smell from staying after washing.I really enjoy this product but what is even more important that my baby’s response to it is amazing and makes him feel so much better with this bottle and natural response nipple, it really makes it easy to feed him and not being scared of him choking during the feeding. That’s the top rated product and highly suggested and recommended on my personal list. Very satisfied mommy and baby boy. Thank you Stellar Product Testing Panel for such a great opportunity to make our feeds more comfortable, naps happier and nights calmer for both mommy and baby!

Philips Avent Natural bottle review
17 December 2022

I was given this bottle set to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. I tried this bottle on my three month old baby who did not take to a bottle and preferred to breastfeed primarily. However, I noticed immediately the shape being different from the other bottles, include other bottles that claim to have a similar shape as a breast. This bottles shape was actually similar to a breast which made the transition quite easy for my baby. She latched onto it easily and did not fuss while drinking milk (which is unusual as she usually pushes other bottles out with her tongue). The nipples wide shape mimics a breast which means that baby doesn't have to get used to different nipples in her mouth. Another issue I dealt with, with other brands was the dripping of ... MoreI was given this bottle set to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. The nipples wide shape mimics a breast which means that baby doesn't have to get used to different nipples in her mouth. Another issue I dealt with, with other brands was the dripping of milk. It made everything messy and sticky. This bottle is a no drip which has been fantastic! No leaking milk from the bottle means no sticky baby, no wet tops or sticky hands!Another great feature about this bottle is that the baby can control the flow of milk! They aren't joking when they said it was similar to a breast. I think being able to control the flow and the shape of the bottle really helped my baby take to the bottle, where she has been rejecting all other brands. And we have tried all of them! I think as my baby gets more comfortable with drinking from this bottle, perhaps even changing the nipple to a fast let down one would be really good, however, as she gets used to this for now, being able to control the flow is fantastic to ensure that she doesn't choke on the milk.Overall, the bottle is super convenient. There is nothing extra or fancy to the bottle, it is simple to clean, extremely comfortable to hold, my extremely picky baby approves it, it does exactly what it claims (FINALLY!) and has given me the relief that I can step out of the house without my baby for some "me time" and someone else can feed the baby!Extremely pleased and would highly recommend this to any parent and especially those that are struggling with their kids taking to a bottle!

Philips Avent with Natural Response Nipple
6 December 2022

I recently received the 4 oz. Phillips Avent Natural Baby Bottle Set with Natural Response Nipple from the Stellar Product Testing Panel. I am a working mom of a 6-month-old who up until recently was strictly breastfed or given breastmilk in a bottle. Over the last few weeks, we have started supplementing with formula as well.Initially upon opening the package, I was stoked to see how easy it would be to clean these bottles with only 4 parts compared to the one I currently use that has 6 parts. The bottle, nipple, ring, and cap were extremely easy to clean by hand with a bottle brush or in the dishwasher. This set came with a level 2 nipple which I would say compares to the flow of a level 1 of her current bottle type. Since she’s never used another bottle before, ... MoreI recently received the 4 oz. The bottle, nipple, ring, and cap were extremely easy to clean by hand with a bottle brush or in the dishwasher. This set came with a level 2 nipple which I would say compares to the flow of a level 1 of her current bottle type. Since she’s never used another bottle before, I was nervous about introducing a new bottle to her, but she took it with ease right from the first try. The shape and mechanics of the Natural Response Nipple really mimic that of extracting milk from the breast, giving my daughter an easy time to drink from the Philips Avent bottles. The Natural Response Nipple was a perfect way to make sure my daughter was pace feeding and not drinking more milk at one time than she can handle. I found the level 2 flow to be just right for her. I wish I had used these bottles from the beginning when we were introducing bottles and wanting caretakers to follow a paced-feeding approach. My daughter was able to switch between bottle and breast with these bottles without any concerns. The look of the bottle is aesthetically pleasing and is petite in size. Although it is wide-mouthed, the indentations in the center of the bottle offer a comfortable grip for both me and my daughter who is starting to learn how to hold her bottle independently. The wide-mouth allows for clean dispensing of formula into the bottle, which is an added bonus. On more than one occasion when I warmed up the milk in the bottle, the white ring that goes around the nipple got noticeably warmer than the rest of the bottle - almost hot to the touch. So, be sure to watch out for this or don’t allow the nipple ring to submerge in warm water. I also noticed that when giving my daughter the bottle in her highchair it was difficult to tip the bottle back due to the wide neck, and she had a more difficult time keeping the milk in her mouth, causing a lot of it to dribble down her chin. However, in a traditional cradled position, this is not an issue. When she is extremely eager and sucking hard, I have noticed a strange sound coming from the bottle with each suck. I assume this is part of the venting design of the nipple and is simply air leaving the bottle as she sucks. When there’s ambient noise around, it is not noticeable.Overall, this is a great bottle set that I would recommend for any mom, especially one that is looking for a bottle that is an easy transition from breastfeeding.

Too Slow for Exclusive Bottle Fed Baby
5 November 2022

I was super interested in these bottles when I was pregnant and wanted to breastfeed. I took the recommendation of friends to get a box sampler to see what the baby likes best though before buying a whole set. I did not get this bottle beforehand so I was excited to receive these bottles from the Stellar Product Testing Panel in exchange for a review. Unfortunately, my baby had a hard time latching when breastfeeding and when he did latch, he would fall asleep which resulted in me having to exclusively pump so he can gain weight. I started using the bottles that I directly pump into which has a fast flow and my baby gets his milk quick without working hard. When he tried these bottles, which mimics breastfeeding, he barely got any milk out after 30 minutes and began getting sleepy like he did when breastfeeding. While these bottles would be great to do combo feeding, it did not work for us because he was used to getting his milk faster with his other bottles. I did love how easy these bottles were to clean and assemble though which is super important as I hand wash bottles multiple times a day. It was also nice to know that no milk was dripping out of his mouth and wasted since the milk only flows when he sucks on the bottle. My baby was also able to latch easily to the bottle nipple and it did not invert while feeding like his other bottles do. The bottle was comfortable to hold too. Overall the bottle itself was good but too slow for my baby.If I was able to breastfeed, I think these bottles would be great and so easy to switch between bottle and breast. Since I am exclusively pumping at this point, these bottles are just not working for us. I think my baby would do better with a faster flow nipple. I will definitely try these bottles again with my next baby if I can combo feed!
