The vet recommended hydrolyzed protein to our IBD kitty and we tried introducing it 10% to 90% old gastro biome diet and he stopped eating entirely. We went back to original diet and he continued to resist any food. We tried wet food to no avail and ended up getting nutritional paste and putting it on his tongue for a day to reawaken his appetite. After two weeks, we again tried to introduce now 5% this and 95% his preferred GI biome food and he stopped eating again. Now we are giving him boiled chicken with nutrient paste on it until he gets energy back. Maybe this works for other cats but for us, it really gave us a fright and then we got a sympathy card from chewy which was very odd and hopefully not suggestive of future fate. This food has seemed to help my cat with allergy issues - his skin has almost cleared up. However, it caused my other cat to have pretty constant diarrhea. We're trying a probiotic to see if that helps.I saw a comment in another review about their recent order taking a long time to ship for "no reason" and wanted to respond to that -- I had another auto-ship for this same food directly from my vet, and had the same issue - the order placed but took FOREVER to ship. They told me that Purina is out of stock in all of their warehouses. In mid-December I was told that it would be back in stock on 12/29/23. Today they told me that Purina says it won't be in stock until 1/11/24. So this isn't a Chewy issue but a Purina one. Still frustrating, but not Chewy's fault.

My beautiful girl has to be on a strict Elimination Diet for management of her skin disorder. She normally eats a large variety of food but as everyone knows cats can be extremely fussy and she is no exception. I am devastated by her diagnosis and was very worried about the dietary restrictions. However thank goodness she loves this dry food! It is all that she is allowed for at least 8 weeks. We are half way through the trial and she is maintaining her weight. I do not hesitate to recommend this brand of hydrolysed dry cat food.

I made the unfortunate mistake of having my cat on this for about a year and a half. He had the greasiest fur but it was dry at the same time. He constantly had diarrhea, there would be periods of hard rancid stool but for the most part it was runny stool down his butt. He loved it though and ate it readily. The entire time I tried to find something that would help without reintroducing his food allergies and having him scrape his own face off. (Still scratched his face ON THIS FOOD) I eventually switched him to Stella and chewy freeze dried and he never looked better. Even when I tried to tell my vet this she told me to switch back to this food. If you are a vet please think better for the pet instead of your commission.
I think you could do more to lower prices for pet food. My recent order (4/5/24) was over $100 but NOT eligible for the $30 coupon. I remember when a case of Fancy Feast Classic cat food was @ $14. Now it is over $21. Absurd price hike. I know Purina is to blame, too. The big corporations got the tax breaks - NOT the middle class. Big corporations did not pass their savings on to consumers; they raised prices and many of them also downsized their products while charging more. Lower your prices; make having a pet more affordable. How many of them get turned into shelters because pet owners can no longer afford to feed them?
My cat recently was switched to a special diet & this was one of the dry foods that was recommended. It was the first one on the list to try because it was from the same brand she was eating from prior so I was hoping it had a higher chance of being a hit & it was! She LOVES this food. I bought the 4lb bag just to test it out & she ate it up without hesitation. Sometimes she eats it more than the wet food; which is to be expected when using these hydrolysed options honestly. I’m still switching between wet foods to find one she’s dying for but so far, Hills has been her favorite.
If you have a two cat household be careful feeding both cats this. My vet seems pretty worthless and knew I was going to attempt feeding both my cats the same things. She also knew my eldest cat has heart disease. The one cat we were trying this for would barely eat this. She'd lick it around and then spit it out. So I have no clue if it would have worked on her. BUT my eldest ate some of it for one day, and almost died from his heart disease issues worsening. I'm glad I trusted my gut that it was the food and wouldn't let him touch it again and he bounced back. Of course he still has issues. He's got heart disease. BUT it was nothing like that night that he ate this food. He was in so much pain he couldn't walk. He could barely breathe.I'm shocked this gets ... MoreIf you have a two cat household be careful feeding both cats this. But I guess if they get monetary rewards for prescribing it no one cares at the harm it actually does, right?
Would give zero star if there’s an option. This order was placed on Thursday 11/30, and I uploaded the vetinary instruction immediately after receiving notification from Chewy asking for vet authorization on this food. Was on the help line for three times, first time was told that the food will arrive by Tuesday 12/5, and eventually (after I proactively reached out again the next day) was told that they haven’t heard back from the vet and that the uploaded files don’t qualify, while my cat should have already been on the prescribed diet by 12/4.Zero transparency in the prescription review process, order never shipped, and falseful information from customer care. My cats (one who needed a special diet and one who didn’t ) really liked the food, but tummy trouble kitty started drinking more water than normal. An injury sent him to the vet again and they tested his blood sugar/ it went from 3.6 from his last visit to 3.83 only 1 month later. As the first ing. is rice starch I looked it up and the first info I saw said it can cause glucose spikes in cats!! So if your cat likes this food, keep an eye on how much water it’s drinking. Increased consumption can indicate diabetes, and we have a cat with that issue too, but at least his is a result of advanced age.
This was vet prescribed for our cat who has a repeated groin/ lower tummy rash and ear infections. All three of our cats are eating it okay, which was a big worry, but I can't say that they dove into it with gusto. The food reminds me of puffed rice cereal. Previously I was feeding them an expensive grain-free food, that in comparing the ingredients with this seemed the healthier choice, but I will give this hydrolyzed protein food a chance. It is too soon to say if it will solve the problems, but I just placed an order for our second bag as the first 4lb bag is about gone. Please ask me in another month or two.Oh, one of our cats had runny diarrhea today, I am hoping it is a one-time event.
