Cuts through aluminum and like materials with ease, especially with a new cutting wheel. While it did cut through stainless steel tubing, I dropped the rating to 4 stars because of the durability of the cutting wheel, whose sharpness dropped dramatically after cutting the stainless tubing. After replacing the wheel of course it was back to a 5star product. My concern is cutting through harder materials in the long-term. Overall the product itself is very well made and the adjustable features are very easy to use

I used this to cut a section of a 3 inch OD stainless steel exhaust. It made a clean and straight cut. I had to remove the exhaust system since there was no room for me to turn the tool 360 degrees around the pipe. Please make sure when buying a pipe cutter that you are buying one that is made to cut steel pipes. Some are made with cutting wheels that are dedicated for plastic, multi layer steel or corrugated stainless steel tube. Cutting wheels can be bought for your particular needs but to avoid delays, make sure you are buying a pipe cutter with the right cutting wheel the first time.

I was not able to cut a 1/5 inch pvc pipe with this tool. After hurting my hands trying to wrestle with this tool, I set it aside, then used a $5 hack saw from wall-mart to quickly slice through the same pipe like a warm knife through butter. And, no, this tool didn't start it for me. I sliced in two different spots with the hacksaw, previously untouched by this tool that didn't work for me.

Ridgid Tubing Cutter

I had a really old, but in very great shape Sears Pipe cutter, the cutting wheel was finally getting dull. Think I could one, no way no how. So off the Home Depot and looking for a new cutter. What I liked was the release or quick take up on the cutter. They also store an extra blade screwed into the turning handle. Has a good solid feel and so far has cut all the copper pipe I needed without any issues. HD also sells the replacement cutting wheels, so I may pick up a set and this way years from now I won't have to replace the cutter because I can't find the wheels.

The tubing cutter worked "GREAT" once I figured out how to operate the product (did not come with instructions). Product came with 1 blade to cut aluminum tubing; my HD did not sell the extra blades for steel tubing. Excellent product but instructions should be added to the sealed package out of the factory. Also, if HD is going to sell a product they should carry all the extras that go along with the product. Further more when I am able to find & purchase a steel blade I can only hope it comes with instructions to change the blade. The packaging for the Tubing Cutter states "no tools required to change blades". I tried to take it off without a tool only to no avail. All in all the product works great.

This thing is a beast.

I install Closets and needed something to cut Aluminum and Stainless Steel Rods and this thing works like a charm. Its actually faster than an angle grinder and almost doesn't even need to be deburred afterwards. Would highly recommend having if you need to cut anything round.

What I liked... nice compact form factor. Feels light yet solid. Easy to handle and use. What I didnt like... yes made in the US but almost twice as much as another major brand I was looking at and three times more than random generic brands. The cutter also has a little play since its part of the adjustable knob rather than fixed on the other side. You just have to be careful that your first turn is straight. Maybe due to this I felt it did not cut as smoothly as a bulkier cutter I also tried out. Too bad I couldnt find one that had the best of both.

I have always bought middle of the road pipe cutters since im not a professional doing it day in and day out. After breaking my second cheaper pipe cutter and struggling to get the spare super cheapo one I had on hand to even spin around the pipe I pulled the trigger. This thing cuts like a hot knife through butter. Now I see why professional plumbers use Ridgid plumbing tools. Was worth every penny to me.

i mean it’s early still. i only used it for one job. the cutters i had were that C shape for the same diameter as these but it wouldn’t clear the adjacent pipe so i had to go to home depot and buy these here rigid ones. by the smallest margin they fit where the other shape cutters would not. they were a higher price but more versatile. they didn’t walk either when i cut the pipe. the button is convenient to not have to twist the handle. they’re not clunky. i have all the brands you’d expect to see in a 13yr hvac guys toolbox but these cutters are easiest to recommend.
