This Roku is such a huge leap from my experience with my previous streaming devices (Chromecast gen 1 and 2, internal LG app). I was just initially looking for a way to Airplay the comicbooks on my Kindle to my TV (for a larger screen experience since I only own a lowly 10.2 in iPad). The Roku just happened to be the most affordable device that has Airplay so I waited for a sale and finally purchased it.Well, I nearly forgot about using it for Airplay because I got distracted playing with all of the Roku’s wonderful features. First of all, the wifi is so much more stable than any of my previous devices and because of that, picture quality is always great. There’s tons of free content and browsing is a breeze with the voice remote. Just say what you want to watch and it gives you all the best options to watch it. My only nitpick is that I wish it came with the HDMI extender in the box but I realize that maybe it’s to save the environment (and on costs). Luckily, I have an HDMI splitter that I can plug it into so I didn’t need the extender. Overall, it’s a great device and I highly recommend it! Time to watch the original The Price is Right…

Sometimes it will just go black and I have to reboot to get it working again. It responds to the remote slowly intermittently. I spent this morning on chat with Roku and got nowhere. Apparently the claim that this is portable is erroneous as it can't be powered off the TV and needs to be plugged in using a cable and adapter. The point of getting this was to eliminate the cable. So- this item is just as portable as the boxes bc you have to drag a cable and an adapter with you for either of them. It was working as described above, plugged into the USB port. When I plugged it into the power block I got an insufficient power warning. I was told to thy another plug, which also didn't work. I was then told to unplug everything and try again 30 minutes and do a software update. Now it isn't responding to the remote at all. I requested an replacement several times and was told by the tech that Roku doesn't do exchanges. So I'm stuck with this non-operational hunk of plastic. I have had several Rokus over the years- both boxes and TVs. I have never had any trouble with any of them. The older ones I've given to friends are still working. This one is defective and roku will not stand by their product.

I have an older LG Roku TV that still functions and picture is still good but is super laggy and slow while in the app menu to click on Hulu, Nextflix, etc, normal TV settings, and crazy slow buffering when streaming anything; horrendous when watching a Live sports game. Nothing was wrong with my internet; so after reading from some forums, people suggested this Roku Streaming stick. I bought with hesitation but am very surprised. It sped up my streaming like its a brand new tv. No more buffering or laggy. However, here is a bit of reality. Ive only owned this for about 3 weeks. I dont know it's longevity but for what I need it for; to me, its worth the $50. A weird quirk Ive notice is when turning on the TV like normal, it goes to the original slow old Roku menu. ... Screen will count down "Switching to streaming box 4.. 3.. 2.. etc) which is when it does switch to the new Roku streaming stick Roku menu. Although be aware. Now I have 2 Roku remotes. I tried to "Pair" the new Roku remote so I didnt need two but that was a mistake. haha. After the pairing, new remote would only recognize the old Roku menu and the tv. It would not recognize the Roku Streaming Stick anymore. I had to contact Roku Support (Super helpful btw, not being sarcastic) who was able to help me. Conclusion, I'm glad I got this Roku Streaming Stick. 5/5 stars.

I wanted to free myself from Amazon so I got a Roku device and I have been very happy with it!!If I must still use my prime to watch something I still can but Roku has their own channel but beware their have very odd ad breaks but it can be worth depending on what the show is because there are some really cool things on there. All of the things that you can stream on a fire stick are on a Roku and I like that I can customize the background as well the screen saver.I am sure that there more things to learn about with my Roku but so far I am really enjoying it and I would highly recommend.Oh and if you have to call customer service, overall they are pretty good depending on who you get.I got some who either didn’t understand what I was trying to do (even though I ... Yay! Great shipping job!!
The old Roku 3 was outstanding and I used mine until the remote literally fell apart so I was excited to upgrade to this newer stick. I couldn't be more disappointed. The first stick I received immediately had issues with it crashing to the home screen multiple times a day on various apps. After a month of updates and resets, I contacted customer service for a replacement. The next device they sent me was fantastic... for almost 6 months and then it began doing the exact same crashes. No amount of firmware updates, hard resets, controller re-pairing or even factory resets would address the issue. The problem has steadily worsened to the point that I cannot watch a 30 minute show now without it crashing at least 3 times and attempting to use the forward or rewind ... The problem has steadily worsened to the point that I cannot watch a 30 minute show now without it crashing at least 3 times and attempting to use the forward or rewind button causes an immediate crash. While Roku is quick to blame technical ignorance and system incompatibility for these types of issues, the reality is that they have a serious quality control problem. A quick online search will reveal thousands of users encountering similar issues with no solutions being offered. What is worse, Roku's customer support has been moved completely offshore and it is clear based on product placement reviews and index order of online searches that they are pumping all of their money into marketing and image rather than addressing the very real technical issues and quality problems with their products.Very sad to see this once great company completely drop off in quality. After a particularly nasty string of crashes tonight, I finally said enough. I ordered a Firestick to replace this dead Roku stick. It's not my favorite interface but at least the Amazon products do what they are designed to.
I was an early supporter of Roku; "YAY! Suck it, cable! YEAH!" ...We got a new TV for the main TV room, and (then a new thing) Rokus for every TV in the house. A few months later and the main Roku remote stopped working. Got a new remote, a few months later that one stopped working, too. We swapped Rokus and their corresponding remotes with one I barely used in my studio- because, apparently, now that the business took off, they don't think it's important to make themselves available to their customers anymore and their contact info was scrubbed.Meanwhile, I absolutely fell in LOVE with having a Roku, and have been recommending it to all my friends, if not also just getting them one for their birthday, etc. If I earned a commission on Rokus purchased because of ... New Roku, new remote, and new remote problem! NOW it stops working because it's almost always on "battery low". Only even reads half the new batteries I try, fresh from the pack. Once the remote does read them, the next day or two I'm getting "low batt" notifications again! If I take out the batteries and swap their positions, I can 60% of the time get it to work *temporarily*. Out of the 2 I take out, the right 1 will usually have a newly-formed crust on the + end. Tried contacting customer service (after doing an in-depth search for contact info) and they couldn't have cared any less!I didn't call again for another couple of months, because a) I was busy. Because, life.b) I was so disgusted by the lack of help or concern from the last time that I didn't think it would do any good! When I did call again, she wouldn't help me because my warranty for the Roku device itself had expired!I am typing this on my phone in the app as we speak, because I was already on the app remote, because...you guessed it: the REMOTE stopped working!
I bought the Roku Streaming Stick 4K shortly after it was first released. I needed and wanted to upgrade from my previous Roku stick, and chose this one because of the extended WiFi range to use in my basement. I was extremely pleased with the performance, picture (love the Dolby Vision), 4K quality, etc. This was my favorite streamer. That is, until this week. Suddenly, it lost WiFi connection and everytime I do a hard reset of the 4K stick, the light on it just flashes white and I cannot get past the initial setup screen where I have to pick the language (because the remote is not communicating with the stick now). I can't use the remote from within the Roku app on my phone because the 4K stick is not connected to the WiFi network yet after a hard factory reset. ... I've rebooted my WiFi router multiple times to try and fix the issue, to no avail. Like I said, I really liked using this product and it worked great for a year before crapping out this week. I'm apprehensive about buying another one because I don't want to waste $40-$50 if this eventually happens again.
I bought this for my father, who has an older TV that was technically smart but so old that it didn't have all the common (or even updated apps) nor move at above a snail's pace. The only part he wasn't thrilled about was providing payment information to ROKU, even though he wasn't purchasing anything at the moment.Using the device is quick and snappy. The ROKU software's responsiveness and speed is a major plus, as well as its access to every streaming app you could possibly think of. My dad is a big fan of the voice remote and it was very easy for him to input his login information via that method. If you've got a TV - either not smart at all or if you're using your TV's built in software and feel it's not updating to the latest apps or not running a speed that's acceptable, I can't recommend the ROKU streaming stick enough. For the price, even if you *think* your TV's built in streaming software is slow, this is worth trying out.

It's definitely worth the investment! 5 stars all the way!
I have tried multiple smart TV platforms. The Apple TV remains my favorite device, but it should be at the prices Apple is asking for. For me, nothing will beat the Apple TV's simple interface and fluid performance due to using an older iPhone chip. It might be older, but it still beats out anything else on the market including the Nvidia Shield.I have one in my living room but wanted options for my other rooms without spending $500 on everything. I tried Amazon's 4K stick and it's too buggy. There's only 5.6GB of usable storage and apps quickly filled that up. I tried buying an external storage cable and using a fast thumb drive (also an SSD) and only 2-3 apps I downloaded supported it. Even then, they took way too long to open and load.I tried Google's solution as well. But it was way too slow during daily use. I'm not sure why Google put such a slow processor in it with only a few GB of storage, but it wasn't the experience I wanted it to be at $50.Enter the Roku Stick 4K. I decided to take a gamble with it due to the price, capabilities, and established ecosystem. I'm glad I took the plunge because I have enjoyed using my Roku Stick 4K so much that I bought two more. The Wi-Fi connection is solid. I have yet to experience something buffering unlike with Amazon's Fire TV 4K stick. Content often quickly loads in SD and jumps to HD/4K in a few seconds. This is likely due to the Wi-Fi being an external module through the Roku's power cable. I don't like that the Stick had micro USB, I would prefer USB-C. But that's fine since I'm not moving it around or needing to recharge it.The remote feels solid and picked up all my TVs without issues. The only issue I have is with my Denon receiver, the Roku remote can't control the volume on my receiver. But I set my receiver to enable passthrough so that it doesn't need to be on for my Roku to work with both audio and video being passed through to the TV (unless the Denon receiver is on). It's easy to add channels and there's ample storage for them. I have more channels downloaded than I did with both my Amazon and Google options and there's still plenty of space.HDR10 works well with my TVs, which all top out at HDR10. I would have gladly spent more for the top Roku option if I had Dolby Vision TVs.My only complaint is that the interface is definitely low resolution scaled up. It looks pixelated with muted colors. Everything else is fine, it's just the general interface. I think the images are compressed or the video stream is being compressed to help aid the onboard processor. But I don't really care about that so long as the video content looks fine (and it does).I highly recommend this to anyone wanting an easy to use, inexpensive, high quality streaming device with all the channels (apps) you could need.
