Royal Canin offers three different types of cat food in its Selective line, each designed to appeal to felines in a different way: Aromatic Attraction is meant for cats who are attracted to food by an appealing smell. Savor Sensation appeals to cats based on both its texture and taste, with a mixture of two pellet types and flavours'. Protein Preference is for cats who like a food that is heavy in protein, which is a comfort food for felines. I predicted that the protein and aromatic formulas were the most likely versions to appeal to my cats, and I hoped that the savor-type food might please my older felines, who are very particular about dry food particles. I put Royal Canin to my usual test when trying out new foods. I filled one feed bowl with a brand that I know my cats like and put Royal Canin in the other. I started off with Aromatic Attraction, and I don't know if it was the smell or what, but all 8 cats went to that bowl immediately. There were absolutely no palatability problems. They finished the Royal Canin before the other feed bowls The cats reacted with excitement to each of the three varieties and cleaned out the Royal Canin feeder first every time. Although I did not test their other cat foods, they have everything from foods based on your cat's life stage to formulas geared to indoor cats and medical conditions like diabetes, dental health, and kidney problems. Since Royal Canin is a premium food, expect to pay more than the mainstream grocery store brands. You'll quickly discover that you get what you pay for, especially if you have a hard-to-please cats. Royal Canin is readily available through major retailers, so you won't have to hunt around for it if your cats like it. Based on my own test results, I'm betting that they will. Go on give it a try what have you to loose.

No stars here! I thought by buying a 'good' brand and breed specific that I was given my Misty a great treat. Not so! one sniff and one lick and she just gave me the most disgusted look. Tried again, same reaction. Looks as though my granddaughter's cats will be treated. Looks like I will be sticking with Paw and Spoon and Dine!

Excellent food
22 November 2013

Have been using this food for my silver spotted British shorthair for about 4 months now and it is excellent. He is a very fussy eater and a lot of food gives him an upset stomach. RC indoor cat upset him and so did the RC one for sensitive stomachs. I had no problems with this at all. Combined it with other food over about 10 days and he was fine. So glad I found it, I tried so many on him and they either upset his tummy or do not fill him. What I love mostly is my cat is very greedy. He used to eat his food in a flash and would always be begging for more. With this because of the size of the kibbles he eats it a lot slower, so what used to take him 1 minute to eat his food now takes him about 3-5 mins. He also no longer begs. Although I feed him a set amount for the day in 3 servings, as this works for him. Would really recommend even if your cat is not a BSH I think this would be great for a greedy cat where you want them to take more time to eat and chew their food. My kitten will also go onto this when she is 12 months, she's currently on the kitten version, but loves to eat this when her brother leaves any :-/ although I do try to discourage her from doing so. The food is relatively expensive however for my 7kg cat a 10kg bag lasts 142 days so that's about 34p a day.

Good for british shorthairs
7 January 2017

We recently took ownership of a british shorthair who's about 4 years old. She's not a fussy eater and pretty much eats anything, and we have been giving her this food for a few months. When we first got her, she was very underweight (you could feel her spine) and her fur was not smooth or very shiny. We put her on some fattening-up food but for around a week she had diarrhea and was not well at all, so as per the vet's recommendation we moved her onto a bland diet and antibiotics which seemed to fix the issue. Since then we've been giving her the Royal Canin British Shorthair food. She loves the food and she's gained 2kg to be her healthy weight. Her coat is now much thicker and shinier and it is very soft and smooth to pat. The big sized pieces are good for her as she does have a very strong jaw and likes to chew things so it's better than the smaller pieces. We just have to be careful not to overfeed her as she'd definitely eat more than needed.

Great food
15 September 2022

George said to say this keeps him feeling full a little longer than the others. He isn't a British shorthair but would certainly like to be. He does like it better if it's lightly mashed and we certainly do that. Thanks.

Great quality but poor service from Royal Canin
4 May 2021

Both my cats enjoy this food and the specially shaped kibbles stop them from bolting the food down to fast which my older cat does a lot and it makes her throw back up, this helps a lot. I rate this food 5 stars but have knocked off a star after ordering the larger bag online and having to throw half of it away when it went all slimy inside the bag. It was stored sealed and dry indoors. This has made me too nervous to buy the larger size bag again as it was a lot to have to throw away and I coluld not do much about it as it was in full lockdown. I did message Royal Canin on the FB page to inform them but had no help there not even a voucher or a replacement bag. :(

Happy Cats
7 September 2020

One of my British shorthairs had a minor problem when I adopted her and her sister 3 1/2 years ago, and after trying various cat foods, and after contacting Royal Canin direct, I put both of them on the special diet. Not only do they both love it, but the diet is specially formulated for the breed. The kibbles are also bigger which is better for British Shorthairs as the have wider jaws. So I would strongly recommend it, and Pets at home usually have some good prices so I am also happy !

Hard kibble

Most of my cats can't chew it. My cats want to eat Hairball care dry cat food. There are even 10lb of this variety sold in US. I have 4 cats. They like this one more than the other things.

My shorthair cats decided to starve but not taste it.

I have been very cruel with my cats, leaving them for 3 days without alternative food, having only this ROYAL CANIN DRY KIBBLE for them on the plate. They did NOT even taste it. I think they didn't like the smell or shape, etc. They preferred to starve but not eat this food. I don't want to be unfair with the product or the supplier, it is of great quality and good value but my British Shorthair cats, which both came from separate backgrounds and both have different food/treat tastes, have both agreed on rejecting this food. I am surprised that most people left good review for this product, here and on Amazon. How did their BSH cats ate it?. IT COULD BE MY FUSSY CATS ONLY!
