Battery does not last the claimed 55 minutes of usage - more like 45 minutes. Battery also not swappable with the line trimmer battery (different shape) despite what the Bunnings expert told me so I cannot finish mowing my full lawn in one hit. It also does not fully recharge in one hour so that you may have to wait more than 1 hour to come back and finish mowing. If grass is thicker, does not have a throttle to increase the power! If I had my choice, I would go back to petrol driven! But, already paid $599 for it. Ryobi warrantee on line registration to get increased 2 yrs is very difficult to navigate and register!

It has been one year since buying this and here is some feedback. It is what you probably expect. For a house with reasonable front and back yards you will likely need another 6aHr battery or to do it over two charges. The 2aHr battery the One+ Whipper snippers comes with are useless and so using this kit and buying a whipper snipper skin only tool is a good combo. Just get an extra 6aHr Battery for Convenience.Hope this helped.

Good but seems to run out of juice early

I brought this today. Overall nice quality. My lawn is 3 parts 25m2, 14m2, 27m2 so total 66m2. It was a little longer than normal. It cut great. I hit a few twigs and on inspection the blade was light thin and dented. Small twigs less than 4mm diameter. At the end of the session the batteries were empty to my huge surprise. The 6Ah one+HP and a 4Ah standard one+ lithium. The brochure suggested much more. For me enough so 4stars but i’d be upset if i had a big lawn. Have to remember to pick up all debris before mowing next time and i might buy another 6Ah lithium HP battery to cut the lawn with less battery anxiety. Grass was pretty dry, maybe not 100% but no rain for 36hrs so lush but no water about.

Good design but poor quality control
10 January 2023

I bought one of these after researching the options in the $600 price bracket. I liked the design and I saw the positive reviews on Bunnings website. The mower is light and a good size for my small (75 sq m) lawn and has a well-designed mechanism for folding the handle away and storing the mower standing up. I also liked the fact that the grass catcher has a solid plastic top, which makes it easier to handle. However, on the first mower I bought the battery housing lid had a dodgy hinge so I returned it. Bunnings were great and gave me a replacement immediately. Unfortunately the battery terminals on the replacement were misaligned and I couldn't fit the battery into its slot. At this point I got concerned about Ryobi's quality control. I have a Ryobi ... MoreI bought one of these after researching the options in the $600 price bracket. Bunnings were great and gave me a replacement immediately. Unfortunately the battery terminals on the replacement were misaligned and I couldn't fit the battery into its slot. At this point I got concerned about Ryobi's quality control. I have a Ryobi whipper-snipper which works well but I found quite a number of online reviews (outside Bunnings website) saying people had had problems with Ryobi mowers, including this model. Several people also found that they needed to buy an extra battery to get decent run-time, which would add around $180 (I think) to the price. To cut a long a story short I ended up returning the Ryobi and swapping it for the Makita DLM464. Again, Bunnings were really excellent and gave me the replacement without any fuss. The RRP on the Makita is $150 more than the Ryobi but it comes with two batteries (rather than Ryobi's one) plus a dual-battery rapid charger. It is much heavier, with a metal body rather than plastic, but it feels much more sturdy and I've read that the Makita battery life is better too. If you had to buy an extra battery for the Ryobi the Makita ends up being much better value, and as I got it on sale for about the same price as the Ryobi it seemed a no-brainer.Initially I thought the twin batteries on the Makita would be major overkill for my tiny lawn but when I eventually got round to mowing the lawn (which was quite long by then) it used up half the battery power. This suggested to me that the single 6Ah battery on the Ryobi might not have done the job - even on my small yard.Speaking of batteries, the single 6Ah battery on the Ryobi took around 3-4hrs to charge from flat when it was new. In contrast, using the fast Makita twin charger the Makita 5Ah batteries took around 40mins.Overall I think the Makita is noticeably higher quality but it doesn't have the neat folding and storage design of the Ryobi. Makita do produce a light, plastic mower with twin 18v batteries that has a similar design to the Ryobi (the DLM 432Z). I checked that out in Bunnings and it seemed slightly better-built than the Ryobi (eg the cutting blade and the metal activation handle) but as I write this it's $100 more than the Ryobi and the motor isn't brushless (which I believe makes it less efficient and means it won't last as long). However, if I had to make the call between the Ryobi and the Makita DLM432Z I'd probably go for the Makita because of the extra battery and higher overall build quality.

Great mower
6 April 2022

We purchased this mower for our beach house which has two lawn areas. One approx. 100 sq metres on a slope and two, a flat area of approx. 90 sq metres. We wanted a mower that all of the family could use both old and young leaving no room for excuses as to why the lawns were not cut. This mower is really easy to start and use compared to our petrol mower. The fully charged battery easily enables both lawns to be cut on the same charge with enough charge remaining to use the Ryobi line trimmer. Much more power than we expected. We are very happy with this product

It's not perfect, but getting pretty close
14 December 2022

We have a decent sized background and nature strip to mow so we knew we needed something a bit more powerful. This lawnmower didn't disappoint and overall very happy with it, but there so caveats. The mulch plug takes a bit to work out on how to put it in, we ended up watching a Youtube video because we couldn't work it out from the instructions, the fit and design seems strange. Even with a 6 and 5 AH battery, I needed to take it a bit easy with some thick grass we had left and was about 30 cms high. All in all we are still very impressed with our first electric lawn mower.

Light, Compact and Effective!
14 December 2022

This has to be the best lightweight compact mower on the market. I had the thing up in running out of the box in no time at all, and boy did it perform, I don't know what I was expecting to be honest, but what a machine. My grass has never looked so good with hardly any effort. Also, I only have a small storage shed outside so its ability to fold up into a small package when you are finished is fantastic, it takes up no room at all. In fact, I still have room for future Ryobi garden tools and place to hang my Ryobi line trimmer which runs of the same battery. I should also mention that my mower battery had plenty of juice left (More than I needed) to use with the line trimmer. For scalability, my garden has approximately to 250m2 of grass to cut.

Light, powerful, better than expected
17 March 2023

It packs power. With two batteries capable of 35min run. I believe this can do 500m2 regularly mowed lawns. I tried thick wet grass as well, which my old petrol mower struggled, and it did it much better. I am not fan of all the plastic body, it is a bit wobbly, especially when full basket. But it has performance. I love how the grass is nicely cut, not blended like on other machines. Makes it great mulch. If you already have Ryobi equipment, this is great addition.

Very Impressed
24 September 2022

I have been in the horticultural industry for a little over 40 years and have spent the past 22 years as a grounds manager. I am very familiar with a need for very robust tools for this industry. I have recently semi retired and needed a mower to mow a smaller section of lawn at our house. After some home work on battery powered mowers i picked the 18V ONE+ HP™ Brushless 40cm Lawn Mower 6.0Ah that came in a kit. Really impressed, it is light but robust and lasts what seems for ever on a single charge. I picked this mower because of its size, power and it also came with a mulching kit which is a must. Thanks Ryobi you have done well, a very satisfied customer.

Work smarter not harder
29 October 2022

Game changer! Lightweight and easy manoeuvring. So glad to have bought this. Lawn mowing is so easy now. And it folds up like a trolley to wheel away and stands up for storage. Definitely needs the 2 batteries to get 25 mins mowing, so I had to go back and buy another battery. I would have preferred 2 batteries in the box.
