The boxed presentation is excellent and the size and weight of the machine immediately told me that it was well made machine, a quality piece of kit! After removal from the packaging and on the worktop it looks very professional, everything seems well made and well thought out, well at least I thought so.There are just two things that I think could be improved, these are the tamper which could fit the portafilter better. It seems too small to my way of thinking, maybe increase the diameter by half a millimeter. The other problem is that the milk steaming jug could be slightly taller as it is easy to overflow when steaming milk for a cappuccino. The steaming wand is a difficult beast to tame and very powerful so a slightly taller jug would help matter greatly!

Words can't explain how much I love this machine. We had a built in bean to cup machine for years. Then moved house and couldn't take it with us. I always thought our built in machine made decent coffee. That was until I got my Sage Barista. The espressos my old machine were watery and bland in comparison to what the perfect ones the Barista does.I had to do a bit of trialling to get the grind right but, since I don't ever change beans, I've not touched it since so all the many grind settings are a bit wasted on me but great if you like to switch beans. It didn't take too long to perfect the milk frothing although I've yet to do any decent latte art - other than very abstract blobs! The only thing I'd change about this machine is some sort of early warning that ... MoreWords can't explain how much I love this machine. I considered getting one of the digital versions but I'm glad I didn't because I think it would have been unnecessary. I am glad I got the impress though to save having to manually tamp - it takes a bit of guesswork out of it.I was worried it was going to be bulky but it's fairly neat, well made, expensive looking and not plasticy like some other brands. It's definitely something you don't mind taking pride of place on the kitchen counter.

I bought this machine as an upgrade from a Delonghi bean-to-cup and although there was nothing wrong with the Delonghi, this has been an incredible and worthwhile upgrade to the Sage Barista Express.I thought I was drinking good coffee before but wow, this machine really brings out the flavour.Milk wand is powerful and easy to use. I've seen a few reviews that complain of how long it takes to build up pressure but mine only needs purging for 10 seconds and it's good to go.The hopper holds a whole 250g bag of fresh beans and you can even remove the hopper without spilling the contents - fantastic feature for when you're dialling in your beans and you need to adjust the inner grinder.Water tank is plentiful at 2000ml and will make numerous coffees before ... MoreI bought this machine as an upgrade from a Delonghi bean-to-cup and although there was nothing wrong with the Delonghi, this has been an incredible and worthwhile upgrade to the Sage Barista Express.I thought I was drinking good coffee before but wow, this machine really brings out the flavour.Milk wand is powerful and easy to use. Only downside is that there is no low-level indicator. Twice now I have forgotten to check the water level only to find the machine choking itself trying to brew espresso without water. The box contained 4 baskets (2x double and 2x single - one type for fresh beans and another for store bought, the dual wall baskets are for beans that don't have a "roasted on" days but rather a "use by" one), a cleaning kit, descaler, portafilter, precision tool for dosing and manual tamper.Personally I use a distribution tool from Amazon with a tamper on the reverse (It's the one that sort of looks like a yo-yo) You can set the tamp depth by using the precision tool as a guide. I have had perfect pressure every time. The only downside I've had with this machine is that I missed out on the cashback offer by 10 days. I was considering subscribing to "Beans by Sage" and would love to have tried their variety on offer but can't bring myself to it, knowing that I could've been drinking free coffee, had I ordered 10 days later.Sage, if you want to reach out to me with an offer code or samples, I would love to give you guys a go but until then, I'll stick with my other fresh coffee subscription. To summarize, I would recommend this machine. Yes it's a big purchase but good coffee will always be worth it. You'll never regret buying it once you're dialled in and producing quality 3rd wave coffee at home, every time.

Good coffee machine, looks great and, more importantly, makes great coffee. However, it's not completely fuss free. Unless you're always using the same coffee beans, the machine needs tuning otherwise the coffee can be truly awful (been there, done that). During the tuning, the dosing system is a bit all over the place and it's best to dose manually not to waste too many beans. The grinder sometimes gets stuck (it'll flash red) and you need to press the dose button again to unstuck it; not sure why it happens as the beans are completely dry. We purchased the blue version and have used it multiple times a day for around 10 months now and the colour is still going strong, with no peeling. We do however take particular care of it (steam wand is never pointed at the paint work / if steam or water gets under the acrylic protection, we remove it and let it air dry / wipe away any stains immediately); not sure whether this has prolonged the life of the paint work, but there's no peeling.
I bought this Sage Barista machine a month ago based off of a friend's recommendation, and the thought of having this impressive machine and being able to make barista style coffee on a similar level to that of a high-end cafe was very enticing. And the result is that it can definitely do that, but not without the added hassle that you wouldn't get with a simpler capsule-type machine.Firstly, I've noticed that the tray beneath fills up with water so quickly, that after making 3 or 4 coffees, I need to empty the tray. I'm not sure why it leaks so much water, when I hardly use the hot water function. Most of the time, I grind the beans, then select the double espresso option and top up with cold milk. It seems the water waste is quite prominent.Secondly, though ... MoreI bought this Sage Barista machine a month ago based off of a friend's recommendation, and the thought of having this impressive machine and being able to make barista style coffee on a similar level to that of a high-end cafe was very enticing. I'm not sure why it leaks so much water, when I hardly use the hot water function. Most of the time, I grind the beans, then select the double espresso option and top up with cold milk. It seems the water waste is quite prominent.Secondly, though the machine does look good sitting on the kitchen counter, it takes quite a bit of time and effort to maintain that look. When I grind a dose of coffee beans, some the ground coffee goes all around the portafilter and onto the tray, so it ends up wasting a lot of the coffee. When the hot water starts to filter through the coffee and into the mug, the coffee splatters everywhere, so once I've made my coffee, I need to quickly start cleaning the machine so that all the splatter doesn't dry up and make it a bigger cleaning job later. The steam wand is its own cleaning job, to the point that I now dread using it simply because of the effort it takes to clean it. I was told to clean the steam wand right away after use, which I have done, yet the milk stain left on wand is stubborn that it takes a good couple of minutes of scrubbing a hot steam wand to try and get it off. All in all, by the time the cleaning is done, I have not had the chance to enjoy a hot cup of coffee.Although the coffee does taste great, It takes a couple of tries to get that taste, and depending on the type of beans you get, you have to experiment to get the right dosing into the portafilter, so again, you end up wasting a lot of the coffee in the first few tries to get the right coffee taste. Unless you use one type of coffee beans and don't switch it up, a good chunk of the coffee goes to waste trying to get the right grind consistency.Don't get me wrong, it's an impressive machine and the coffee does taste great once you've experimented. But is it worth all the extra hassle that comes with it, especially considering the price of this machine? I'm not sure. Sometimes, I do miss my old capsule machine that just gave me a decent cup of coffee without all the additional work.
I bought this a few weeks ago. At first I struggled to get a decent shot despite using freshly roasted beans.Things improved massively once I discovered that you should pull the shot manually by pressing and holding the shot button for 9 or 10 seconds, let go for a further 15 to 20 seconds - this is when the coffee comes out - and press the shot button to stop the shot. Do not rely on what is programmed into the machine! Aside from the timings above, the other main variable is the grind size - I focus on getting a suitable dose within the time above, this helps to fine tune the grind size (so far I'm mostly around 8,9,10).It's disappointing that the manual shot is not more prominently mentioned in the instructions as it makes all the difference.I now find it ... MoreI bought this a few weeks ago. Bought as a replacement for a 'professional' Italian E61 machine plus high quality grinder, this certainly bears comparison with the combo. We now have it making great espresso after quite a bit of experimenting and a few additional purchases. For the money it is remarkable and time will tell if it lasts as long as a traditional machine. We don't use the frother, so can't comment on it.The minor faults are inconsistent grind volume (probably because the grinder and hopper are close to the steam and heat of the brewhead, and the complexity of adjusting temperature and brew timing. To get rid of any bitterness we turned the brew temperature down one setting (2 degrees farenheight). Then, to maximise texture we always pre-infuse about 9 seconds. We found further improment from a naked (bottomless) portafilter and we are awaiting the arrival of a nano-quartz coated basket! Mesh screens to place on top of the grounds can bring a small improvement but it's a pain picking them out of the knockout box!
As you would expect from Sage, this looks and feels like a quality piece of equipment. There’s a bit of faff to get it set up and simply following the quick start guide *will* get you up and running, but probably not with the results you want. It’s very easy to go from too coarse a grind with coffee coming out that’s not much more than light brown water, to the machine pumping water through too fine a grind for minutes with almost nothing coming out.Once you have it setup to your liking and have adjusted the grind to get a decent extraction it does produce the goods. I was happier once I had adjusted how much coffee it produces each time to fill an entire espresso cup - the standard amount delivered is not much at all.The hot water and steam delivery are quite ... MoreAs you would expect from Sage, this looks and feels like a quality piece of equipment. I was happier once I had adjusted how much coffee it produces each time to fill an entire espresso cup - the standard amount delivered is not much at all.The hot water and steam delivery are quite messy and tend to spit and splash everywhere much more than normal, which means you need to wipe your nice machine down a lot. Which is annoying. Also, even with mugs or cups under all the spouts and orifices, the drip tray STILL fills up with water over the space of a few days….why? And more importantly how? I have no idea how the water gets in there, but there’s quite a lot. And it WILL overflow into the little storage area behind it and ruin wherever you have put in it. Also, for something with an RRP of close to £750 - could they not include a knock box for used coffee pucks? You really do need one.The biggest issue I have apart from inconsistent results is the ‘auto tamping’. I don’t think it should be called that at all. It is auto measured tamping perhaps but you’ll be pulling the lever down yourself to make a puck - make no mistake. My previous machine made its own pucks and dropped them into an internal bin after - and cost half as much as this one.In summary it’s very nice, but really not worth the money as it’s just an espresso machine with a few extra lights and features on it, none of which really add much. Even once set up properly the resulting coffee is very inconsistent. You can get a machine that is very close to being as good for probably 25% of the cost. Or something that will do much more for you for less money too. I will be returning this as it just does not do what I need it to, and I don’t need to pretend that I work at Starbucks every morning. I just want a decent coffee, in a reasonable time.
my Sage Bambino died on me. so i needed another machine. i looked to sage as i was very much enjoying the coffee it produced. I managed to use single wall coffee filters on my old machine to extract almost double shots on my bambino (paired with a sage dose pro grinder), so i had high hopes when purchasing the barista express impress.Unfortunately, i havent had a great experience with it so far (im approx 3 weeks in). the coffee comes out much thinner with more water and when reducing the grind fineness it manages to channel badly and results in a small amount of usable coffee or doesnt really express much at all. ive been trying to dial in using burr gring settings (at the burr and the standard dial), different coffee beans (both fresh and M+S beans) and different ... Moremy Sage Bambino died on me. so i needed another machine. i looked to sage as i was very much enjoying the coffee it produced.
