I've had this soundbar for a couple of years now, and it worked fine (bluetooth) for at least 6-12 months. The bass from the sub is great, the audio from the actual soundbar is great, the different modes work well, but in the last 12months it has been garbage. The bluetooth is absolutely useless. It never paired properly (WITH A SAMSUNG TV), and when it actually did it dropped out soon after. I had to manually pair it 90% of the time at least 3-4 times before it worked. The optical cable option for some reason was not as loud as BT. I finally have given up and bought a new one, different brand of course. Even after the software update it still couldn't pair properly!

I bought my Samsung HW-R450 Soundbar with the wireless rear speakers. While the system does not replicate a multi-speaker upper end sound studio, it is more than adequate for most listers - per my family and friends. Once you have the right bass and trebble settings, the sound quality is very solid. With setting choices for sports, movie, night, music and best voice, I'm satisfied with this unit. We have our linked to a Samsung 65 inch TV, and enjoy nice sound without having to spend allot of money. My only negative is that the wall mounting system requires perfect percision to maintain level. The paper template comes folded, so good luck trying to be precise given the creases in the paper. Lastly, I've used this sound bar for over one year.

I purchased this item just after Christmas. I had been looking at soundbars for some time but struggled to justify the expense. I have been disappointed with sound quality in movies and TV series since the introduction of surround sound. The dialogue always seemed too quiet and required the volume on the TV to be turned up and then you would be deafened by peripheral sounds such as crashing noises, guns being fired, even the sound of a car or truck engine. This soundbar balances the volume of those variations very well. I can now enjoy watching movies and television at a more comfortable volume. As I have the TV in a smallish area I do not believe I would benefit from 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound features so the 2.1 on this product is fine. Sounds good - ARC connectivity a failure
19 April 2020

We own 4 samsung TVs and two Samsung soundbars with another two blu-ray players. Just like this website, they look good at first but turn out to be a total shitfest when using them daily. The soundbar will connect to my q70 smart TV and turn off, but then not turn back on when using the "universal controller" settings or HDMI arc, or a dedicated optical cable. Nada. Even though it worked on the older gen Samsung TV we just replaced. The sound gets reset to 20 so not only do we get to travel back to the 1990s by having a remote to turn on each device (since the universal option wont work). You'd think all samsung products would work with other samsung products, but I guess Microsoft isn't the only company who's managed to screw that up. It's a shame nothing works as ... MoreWe own 4 samsung TVs and two Samsung soundbars with another two blu-ray players. Unreliable
4 March 2024

Have had this 2019. It's ok when it works correctly. Like many, I use this with my Samsung TV and use the digital optical connection as well. Randomly comes up Receiver (Optical) and I’m unable to control the volume. Even turning it on and off multiple times or switching inputs until it says Soundbar R4-Series (Optical) doesn't always work. Very unreliable even if you use BT. The sound is ok for what you pay.

[Rewarded Review] Best way to improve sound coming out of your TV
5 January 2021

This is a great soundbar system for the price. The setup is easy, the sound is great, and the subwoofer adds that extra bass to help you feel what you are watching. This is not going to replace the big sound of the movie theater, or even be as good as more powerful, and more expensive, soundbars or home theater systems. At 200W it has plenty of power for your typical living room and TV viewing. This is better than the speakers built in to your TV in terms of power and direction. TV speakers are pointing down so the sound has to bounce around to get to your ears. Getting this soundbar will greatly improve how you hear your shows and movies as the sound is directed at you. [Rewarded Review] Great upgrade to TV audio
10 December 2023

We've had this sound bar attached to our TV for 4 years! No problems and excellent sound. I can put music on the TV and fill the house with it because of this sound bar. The sound from the TV before attaching this was very inadequate. I'm very happy with this purchase.

[Rewarded Review] Just NOT a great Soundbar
2 February 2023

Not a recommendation for the followingreasons:1.Have to continuosly ride the volume as sound levels are very inconsistent, even with Smart settings and other settings.2. Dialog gets lost and again jack up the volume3. The sound bar just turns off occassionally when switching components on tv like switching from Tivo to FireTV. Have to explain to my wife why sound us not working.4. The subwoofer does provide low bass5. No bluetooth capability on this

[Rewarded Review] Sound is good, just wish volume level was even

This improved the sound quality of my 55" Samsung TV, but the sound level varies across different modes or devices. In TV mode using an antenna, it seems to be the loudest even at volume 15-17, channels may vary. Using a Firestick you have to raise the volume level to about 22-24. Using a Playstation you also have to raise the volume level to about 24.This is not the end of the world, but it would be better if it was even across everything. Not sure if an updated firmware would help. To update the firmware is a bit of a pain, seeing that they used a mini USB plug instead of a standard USB-A plug. How the heck do you plug in a flash drive to flash the firmware to that? Unless there is a mini USB to USB-A female adapter that I haven't seen on the market.Overall ... MoreThis improved the sound quality of my 55" Samsung TV, but the sound level varies across different modes or devices. [Rewarded Review] Sounded Great, but was defective
3 September 2019

Spent about 30 minutes at my local Best Buy flipping through all the sound bars displayed, and settled on this product. Felt it offered the best sound and was a reasonable price. Found an open-box of one, and was able to take it home that day. It was a quick and easy set-up, but the soundbar itself would turn off every 20 minutes. I had read issues of soundbars doing this while movies or shows were paused for extended periods of time, but this was happening while I was watching a movie. I had it plugged into the optical port, and even turned up my tv volume to see if it could force the bar to think it wasn't being stagnant. Ended up having to keep the remote handy and keep turning it back on after it auto-powered off every 20 minutes on me.I contacted Samsung ... MoreSpent about 30 minutes at my local Best Buy flipping through all the sound bars displayed, and settled on this product. I had it plugged into the optical port, and even turned up my tv volume to see if it could force the bar to think it wasn't being stagnant. Ended up having to keep the remote handy and keep turning it back on after it auto-powered off every 20 minutes on me.I contacted Samsung support the next day, and they had me try a couple different settings, but nothing fixed the bar from turning off on me. They said it was an internal defect and would need to be resolved with their warranty department. So instead of fighting through that mess, I just returned it to Best Buy in my return window.I think what upset me the most was that upon returning the sound bar to Best Buy, the Customer Service rep had stated they have had multiple people return this same sound bar type for similar issues. So I felt a little betrayed by both Samsung and Best Buy for not being truthful or upfront about known issues.I'm giving this 2 out of 5, because it seems that many reviewers never faced this issue, and like I stated earlier it sounded great. I went ahead and tried the next Samsung version up, the r550, and I have not encountered the same issue. I'm ultimately writing this review because when this was happening, I tried to read reviews and do my research to see why, and nobody had written anything down. So hopefully this helps somebody someday.
