I recently purchased the Type-C Pass-Through USB Hub for my 2018 MacBook and I must admit it is quite a letdown. I rarely ever write negative reviews but I thought you guys should know that it is very flimsy. The only reason I kept it is because the rose gold color matches the rose gold color of my MacBook which my daughter uses. That said, she has complained that devices plugged through the hub to the computer will lose connection with the just the slightest movement. Moreover, the hub does not fit with the computer’s clear protective case, which Apple told me is designed to accommodate hubs just like yours... All-in-all the accommodations of the hub with my computer case is a non-issue. I’m more concerned regarding the poor quality of the hub itself. While it is indeed useful in concept and basic practice, it has some very noticeable issues you may have to encounter and deal with. Due to it single point of connection and contact with the device it tends to feel very loose and weak, giving the impression that it may disconnect mid-use.When a MacBook Pro USB-C charging cable is connected through the HUB in order to charge the device, the product tends to operate at a fairly high operating temperature, especially when the SD slot is being used.Other than these issues, it's still fairly decent.

This adapter has all the markings of a brilliant all-in-one solution. It is well made with a solid construction feel and has all the ports I need to run my older non USB-C gear eg: external hard drives. I also bought this product to plug in SSD cards. However the way the adapter connects to the computer is the issue. For the size of the adapter, it only holds onto the computer by a single USB-C port. The connection is firm enough not to slip out of it's own accord, however the adapter flexes within the port and if bumped also has the tendency to slip out just enough to lose connection, which can eject the hard drive I am using. I also worry about damaging my computers USB-C port.I will still use this adapter, but have since bought single purpose cord based ... MoreThis adapter has all the markings of a brilliant all-in-one solution. It may sound more problematic to have multiple adapters (from a storage view point), but it works for me.There is a corded version of this adapter, which is even more expensive than this one, but I am still not convinced it is better than a cord based USB-C to female USB-A (for example) that would offer the flexibility of cord to cord connection versus cord to adapter to cord connection.

The functionality of the Satechi USB-C, overall wasn’t as good once being used.Disadvantages: the product was a bit slanted once it had been connected to either an iPad or laptop from the side region of the device. Reason being is the positioning of the USB-C stem as it’s located on the end of the brick which caused the entirety of it being loose, and did not sit properly on the iPad. Having the USB-C stem where it is positioned, it prevented the brick from staying i one place as it was a bit loose.Advantages: the USB-C Passthrough ports are successful in functionality and this included the standard USB ports and the SD card slot as well. I bought this hub at the same time I purchased my 2017 MacBook 12" 512GB. And I'm glad I did, as the MacBook has one, solitary USB-C port. That's it. I love the fact that the hub is colour matched to my MacBook (Space Grey). And it has run really well so far, even though technically it was designed for the MacBook Pro in terms of it's thickness. That isn't really at all noticeable.Using the hub has been dead simple; I can charge using the USB-C pass through while at the same time connecting devices to the 2 x USB-A ports. The first thing I connected was my external hard drive to do a data restore from a Time Machine backup. Worked flawlessly. I've also since connected an iPad Pro that I occasionally use as a 2nd monitor using Duet via a USB-A to lightning cable. ... MoreI bought this hub at the same time I purchased my 2017 MacBook 12" 512GB. I've also since connected an iPad Pro that I occasionally use as a 2nd monitor using Duet via a USB-A to lightning cable. Perfect.I do notice the hub can get quite warm during use.The jury is out in terms of durability - this hub appears to be made from the same kind of aluminium as the MacBook is. However it is literally hanging on for dear life to that single USB-C port. I think 'caution' would be a word to consider if you aren't anchored to your desk while using this hub.Overall I'm super pleased with this peripheral - it's simple and does exactly as you'd expect. Thumbs up from me.
This hub is a lifesaver. I purchased the new 2016 Macbook Pro after being a longtime Windows user and there is absolutely no way to transport your files with the only ports being USB-C. With this device I have been able to successfully transfer files to and from my laptop. I noticed it does heat up quite a bit under use to the point that it feels like it will burn you if you don't let it cool down. You also have to be very careful not to move the laptop while it's plugged in or the blue light will turn off ejecting your SD Card or USB and you will have to start the process all over again. I wish Apple would have included at least one USB port but they didn't so now I use this. I wish Apple would have included at least one USB port but they didn't so now I use this. I like that it is very close in color to the space gray of my laptop and is very small, sleek, and well made. It is a better option than having a bunch of dongle cords everywhere since it attaches straight to the side.
I returned the device because without the stated passthrough capability it was of no use to me at all. I dock via a USB-C so the laptop was off charge. It was also very loose in the USB-C so suspect over time the USB-C that goes into the laptop would have become damaged with pressure from cables in and out etc.
I use this adapter quite often for my Micro SD card and my Wacom Tablet. This adapter is EXTREMELY sensitive. Half of the time, I cannot even type without it disconnecting from my laptop. It will disconnect without me touching it. Even if I hold my hands away from my laptop. This results in data corruption as it disconnects while I am writing to it. I have to time my copy pastes carefully to make sure it is safely written to my SD Card.It is easier to use with my Wacom, as the art software immediately detects the tablet when the adapter reconnects. Pen pressure and smoothing remains intact.Overall, this product has caused me frustration due to the extreme sensitivity. I would not recommend it.
This is the best investment I have made for my MacBook! The computer doesn’t come with a USB port so this has been amazing to transfer files and use a mouse. I also use this with my work computer that has the same port and it is amazing for additional USB ports as well! 10/10 recommend
I bought one because obviously, I really needed it. The 12 in macbook is really cute, compact and is the only one that comes in the coveted rose gold finish, but having only one charging port and one headphone jack port really blows. And this usb pass through hub has no extra wires, is truly compact, adorable and very versatile (plus, for the aesthetic, comes in rose gold). I bought one and it came quickly, and I had used it a few times. It gets the job done, does exactly what it's designed for. It really is a great product. However, the usb c jack got bent? I don't know how, but I was a bit upset. I guess people have to be extremely careful, seeing as it can be damaged very easily. So, I contacted Satechi about it.
