Quality has deminished since my purchase of the same model a few years ago. I loved my Stanley ratcheting screwdriver so much, I decided to get another one to keep in my second toolbox. Unfortunately, the current manufacture LOOKs exactly like the older one, but the plastic parts have been retooled so that the bit storage cubbies are more narrow than the bits, which means the bits need to be PRYED OUT, rather than easily shaken out, as before. Also, turning the ratcheting direction from left to right is ALSO impacted by a similar retooling of the dies that formed the plastic part — as a result, the turning is very difficult. This unit USED to be available IN STORE, but now is only available ONLINE — too bad, because it’s so hard to use, I’d like to return it to the ... MoreQuality has deminished since my purchase of the same model a few years ago. The screwdriver fell apart after a few days. At least two other reviewers here have posted photos showing this. Also, it is really hard to get the bits out of the bit holder. I have an older version of this screwdriver that works fine (as it should, because it should not be hard to build a screwdriver that does not fall apart). Not about to buy any Stanley products again, if Stanley cannot build a basic thing like a screwdriver that does not fall apart.

Mechanism will no longer switch between ratcheting clockwise, locked and ratcheting counter-clockwise. Instead, it is now clockwise, clockwise and neutral. Also, as others have said, it is virtually impossible to remove the bits from the front storage section of the tool. Poor quality and design.

Hey, Stanley! I'm an old broad, and I've had this screwdriver for many years and love it! I came to your site to find the name (Multi bit Ratchet Screwdriver with 10 bit) and product # for it so I can buy one for my granddaughter ,7, who is getting pretty handy at building things. Mine is in the car waiting for me to change my license plates (OL HIPEE). Keep up the good work, Stanley! Every best wish, Kitt
I have had these screwdrivers for Many years for servicing rental properties & general use and just LOVE them. The rubber is so comfortable and the ratcheting mechanisms & bit holder is great! No issues with any of them.... until the newer (more plasticy) version was released. I've had 2 of these, and I think BOTH of them just had the shaft fall right out, no pressure or anything. I can't even see how it could hold into the handle. Also the new ones have either too tight of an exterior bit holder, or it's MAGNATIZED- both very bad ideas (you can't get bits out anymore). Old model rocks, new model, bad. Stanley did replace them right away, but the hard plastic is not as comfortable as the older ones that were more rubbery. Hope this helps!
This is my third one of thiese screwdrivers. Generally they are brilliant, however I keep knocking the the ratchet ring on this one and it's a bit annoying. Trouble is you can't test them in the shop as they are clamped to the packaging. I still give it a 4 star rating as it is a brilliant tool.
The handle and ratchet system are nice. But everything with the bits is horrible. Had to use a second tool (Leatherman) to remove the bits from the top storage area. And when I put bits in the bottom storage, they got lodged in there and tore up the plastic, breaking the retainers and making it nearly impossible to reopen.Returned within 24 hours of delivery
Terrible screwdriver. No way to get the bits out of the holder without using another bit to pry it outMeans you have to keep a bit in the end which risks loosing one when you put it away, ir pull a bit out of the handle so you van use it to pry one out of the "convienent" holder at the top .Clearly a tool designed by someone that doesn't use tools.Worst, most useless multi-driver I have ever purchased. Taking this back to HD...
Got quite a selection of electric screw drivers but every now and then you need the control only a manual screwdriver can give you.Small screws in to wood, locking mechanisms - could put a long list together but I'm guessing you get the idea. The ratchet mechanism on this unit is very fine and offers excellent control -Now the negative department -The lid on the bit compartment is a devil to put on -The individual bit holding facility at the business end of the screw driver is fiddly to get bits in and out - off.Overall not a bad effort from the Stanley team but with the two issues sorted would make it perfect for a good screw !
I've had one of these in my electrical toolkit for a bunch of years. I adore it, and am going to buy another one for one of my other toolkits, and buy some more as presents. I love that it ratchets, I like the neat storage in the handle, but what I most love is the bit storage at the top. The top bit storage allows for swapping the most common bits much faster than for internal storage. From reading some of the other reviews, it looks like the top bit storage causes some consternation. For me, the top bits are super easy! Just rotate the storage ring to line up the bit you want with the hole, and turn the screwdriver upside down. The bit you want will drop out, easy peasy. There is one feature request I would love to see in a future screwdriver. Some competing products have multiple "rings" of bits that fit in the handle, even including an adapter that allows for a smaller bit driver size. This is even better internal storage than what the Stanley product has. But those other products don't have Stanley's convenient top storage. What I would love to see is a product that combines all of these -- ratcheting, top bit storage for the most common bits, and multiple rings of bits in internal storage.
