Too little and it's uneven when you lay your head down and your adjusting your head all night. I also use bose sleepbuds and side sleep making the inflatables even worse. This pillow is the first 10 out of 10 I've ever used. It lofts the perfect amount to keep my neck aligned with my spine with enough give to allow me to comfortably wear my sleepbuds. Soft and warm without causing me to sweat. The only compromise is pack size and weight but the design makes it 100x more packable than a standard pillow. I was very happy to find that this was not the case with this pillow. The pillow is so puffy and sturdy when unrolled, it doesn't feel like a packaway pillow at all. It is supportive enough to be comfortable in both back and side sleeping positions and the large size fits perfectly into our mummy bags. The outside material has a nice, soft velour-type feel, which I personally like but could be a downside for people who run hot/sweat a lot. Good news, side sleepers!
21 September 2021

If you're a side-sleeper with a long neck (like me), then you've probably either had to become a highly skilled engineer of the ultimate pillow configuration for basic comfort OR you've gotten used to sleeping without enough support, at camp. No longer! I have this pillow in the L size, and it alone among even it's foam-filled brethren is both high enough *and* firm enough to offer the perfect support to the long-necked or large-headed side-sleeping hiker. It's absolutely a luxury, because unlike folding into a tiny pocket like an inflatable competitor, it rolls up - with a bit of skill & strength - into a size more akin to your much-compressed sleeping bag (about 2x the width of a Nalgene and half again as tall). But for the difference it makes to your sleep, and ... MoreIf you're a side-sleeper with a long neck (like me), then you've probably either had to become a highly skilled engineer of the ultimate pillow configuration for basic comfort OR you've gotten used to sleeping without enough support, at camp. But for the difference it makes to your sleep, and thus energy levels, and to your neck, and thus soreness levels, the next day? There's no contest. You're going to hike further, and better, if you're sleeping on this. Alternatively, it's also good between knees/chest for hip/shoulder support after an especially tough day's hiking, if you can bring yourself to pillow your head on something else. Probably not for back or front sleepers, though, for the exact same reason; they'll likely find it a bit too high & hard.

I freaking loved this little pillow!
12 August 2022

I will definitely be ordering a bigger one! It fit nice in my pack, in the sleeping bag compartment with my pad as well. But I do have a 65 liter pack. I would not bring it if I couldn’t split my tent and food with my partner tho. I loved the storage bag and the way the system all rolled together! Super fluffy and firm for my knees when I side sleep.

It's got it's pros and cons
13 October 2021

I picked up the regular and the deluxe pillows to compare to some inflatables I've used and the Thermarest foam pillow.Overall the pillows are firmer than the Thermarest, and provide a much more uniform surface with less compression during rest. They do compress well for storage, smaller than a comparable size Thermarest, but the "17% of original size" packability is a bit generous.I find the regular to be true to size in the sense that it is average dimensions compared to backpacking pillows. The deluxe is odd because it's longer than it has any right to be. I would prefer the deluxe be shorter and taller, as neither the the regular nor the deluxe supports my head at the appropriate height for sleeping on my side, although I do have very broad shoulders.I've ... MoreI picked up the regular and the deluxe pillows to compare to some inflatables I've used and the Thermarest foam pillow.Overall the pillows are firmer than the Thermarest, and provide a much more uniform surface with less compression during rest. I appreciate the loftiness of the Thermarest (be it a bit too lumpy) since the Sea to Summit alone is just a little too firm and not tall enough. They are all heavy, but for me it sure beats sleeping on a balloon type contraption.I pack the Deluxe size when I travel and car camp for placing between my legs when I side sleep, it's a perfect size for that function.

My must have for traveling!
11 December 2022

I got one for traveling as I can’t sleep well with hotel pillows that your head just sink in with not much support. Very glad I got this! Its nice n firm, I love it so much that I got another one for long haul flights. I use the regular size for hotels and small one for flights. I also like the fact that you can machine wash it to keep it clean and when rolled up it’s very compact. I will for sure bring it to my next camping trip!

Not a good and I was expecting.
10 January 2022

I purchased this online with much anticipation. I was very happy with the delivery speed but it was out of stock in all local stores and therefore I did not get the opportunity to test it before I bought it. It is a very high and very dense pillow. It is filled with lumpy offcuts memory foam pieces inside the shell. And to be very honest I do not find it very comfortable. Yes it roles up small and may be very warm for winter camping but for car camping I will continue to take my own favourite memory foam pillow regardless of the space it consumes. I regret the purchase and will probably never use it for camping.

Perfect FOR ME

Unpopular opinion: BEST pillow ever. And by unpopular opinion, I mean for backpacking. I've bought countless pillows to find the right fit (for me) for the AT. Ranging from the Sea to Summit Aeros pillow that is the most popular choice - to other brands combo between inflatable / foam - to pillows with a slightly different angle on the neck. Nothing was working for me and I almost gave up on hoping there was a good fit for me and going back to awkwardly using another brand's stuff pillowcase. As one last go I decided to try the foam core pillow. It packed down to a bit larger than I would like (and of course, the weight isnt ideal for a UL set-up) and at first felt a little too firm. I can definitely see value in that on warm nights in my liner - but otherwise the pillow sits perfectly in the head of my sleeping bag, allowing me to twist and turn with no issue.Last bit on my ramble about how wonderful this pillow is - something I really enjoyed and appreciate most is that the foam in the pillow is upcycled foam from the production of the self inflating pads. Big on reducing waste and honestly was the selling point in me deciding to try this pillow to begin with.Great job Sea-To-Summit!

The BEST Backpacking Pillow
2 August 2022

I am an ultralight backpacker who has changed course. I spent so many nights uncomfortable for the sake of having a 6-7 pound baseweight and finally had enough. I wanted to have the absolute most comfortable sleep system and this pillow plays a huge roll. I’ve tried so many pillows from Klymit, Sea to Summit, Thermarest, Nemo Eqp, and more. In fact, I ordered this pillow along with the legendary Nemo Fillo and this pillow absolutely smokes the Nemo in comfort- and it is only slightly heavier. This is by far the most comfortable out of all of the pillows I’ve used. I got the size large which weighs in at 10.8oz (advertised at 10.7) which is right on the money for advertised weight which I greatly appreciate. No, it’s not ultralight. No, it doesn’t pack up super tiny. However, 10 ounces for a super plush pillow that actually supports your head like a home pillow is totally worth the weight to me. It provides way more comfort than any inflatable will ever come close to. I was greatly surprised at how supportive it is. Many camp pillows are too soft and flatten out when you put your head on it, but this one is more firm and will not flatten out, which unfortunately does make it’s packed size greatly larger than others. The fabric used is a very soft and pleasant surface for your face. It’s the only pillow I’ve used that I can sleep with in my own bed and not even notice a difference.Everything is a trade off and for me this pillow punches way above the weight penalty. And if you’re car camping- forget the weight and packed size and buy it! Absolutely a comfortable pillow from a fantastic company with the best customer service around.
