THIS is the Sennheiser Accentum headphones, coming in around the middle of the pack in price but above the pack in comfort - these Noise Canceling Headphones left me both awed and confused with its feature set and what makes it stand out. First off, at $180 - these beat almost every single ear buds that have ever graced my ear - even putting on a fierce fight with the airpods pro! I enjoy it because my headphones don’t slide off my head during a heavy workout or when benching - however, if you are sensitive to head pressure then I would for sure take note of bestbuys return policy and use that to your advantage. The only thing I really didn’t care for all that much design wise was the layout of the buttons. I just like to click buttons and have instant resolution, but the power button is also the Bluetooth button and that caused me to adjust. Very nit picky, otherwise perfect design and comfort. The ear cushions were really nice as well, I have larger than average ears and they were perfectly scooped into the cup very comfortably for hours and hours gaming and doing homework. I really enjoyed these headphones from a design aspect, while being conforming to the market I certainly recognize their own unique way of making the headphones quality and stand out.App==========This is where my biggest gripes come into play, in the sense that the app was pretty much useless to me. The only thing that I needed to do on the app that I couldn’t do on the headphones was adjust the equalizer and some one time settings adjustments on the active noise cancelation. Lets start with the equalizer though, I really found it to be useless - and the bass ‘booster’ muted most of the bass on my electronic music rendering it useless to me. The Sennheiser app did have some interesting features such as setting up a sound zones to change the settings of your headphones depending on your geographical location, so that at school or work they are transparent and have a different sound stage then at home or the gym where you might find the Noise Cancelation used more and a deeper / more vibrant sound stage is used. You can also use their own personalization feature for the built in 5 level EQ which lets you pick three different options while listing to music - similar to your optometry appointment picking the clearest lenses - but for your music to match how you want it to sound. It was actually really nice for non electronic music, but less adjustable than I would have preferred. There is no adjustments on the mic in app, so the so sound you get off the Mic is what you get, which I found to be quite average but well enough that you could be on your phone, in the car or anywhere other than a headphone microphone - so it was really good enough!Sound==========What we are all here for! These are certainly studio V - sounding headphones, very clean and neutral. Even in the EQ I was limited in my ability to change the headphones sound and couldn’t really change the sound anything dramatic. Bass is clean, not prominent and that is just how it is with these headphones. Maybe I am blown out on my expectations with bose, but I was left wanting on bass - but the sound was otherwise really full. I will add as a final note on these headphones, they are extremely versatile. I can work, gym, call, zoom, game and everything else in these headphones. I mean truly this is a great pair of headphones to just have for anything! Cheap enough to take anywhere, but nice enough to wear anywhere as well. The Active noise Cancellation was the only fault in the sound, as in, if you are looking for headphones for the pure silence - these probably aren’t it. While the headphone cups are pretty good, there is a small whine from the ANC when just idle. When listing to music though, they block most of the noise you don’t want to hear - but certainly not a full spectrum blockage. I found them susceptible to the usual, high pitched sounds, wind, and sounds that peak really high. Good ANC for the market it is entering, but there is better out there.Final Thoughts==========I actually really enjoy these headphones, I think at $180 they are really stunners. Comfort and versatility are awesome, but I have never had a pair of headphones actually go 40+ hours without a charge! I throw these in my bag and forget that I ever even need to charge it, having had it for almost two weeks I have charged it twice…. And one was just out of the box so I could test it without the battery dying. I think that individually, you can go and find better features on other headphones - but it would be harder to find a better package of features done as well as Sennheiser has done with their Accentum line. As always, Bestbuy has an excellent return policy and even better customer service, so you never have to worry about buying a product that you don’t like… so why not test it out?!

These are nice, clear, concise and have a nice ability to provide bass at just the right level. I do with they were just a little louder, but they do sound really good.

It’s a small thing, but you don’t see many headphones supporting both directions these days.COMFORT:Out of the box, the comfort of the Accentum is ever-so-slightly above average. Personally, I think the clamping pressure is too much, so I’d stretch these out over a box before trying to wear them for many hours at a time. I was able to wear them on and off throughout the day, but I’d usually experience some level of discomfort from the clamping pressure.That being said, the ear pads themselves are quite soft, but the headband padding is thin and rather firm for my head. If you are the kind of person who frequently experiences discomfort from cheaper headphones, then I don’t think this headphone is going to solve that problem. I think Sennheiser/Sonova put more emphasis in making comfortable ear pads and decided to cut back on the budget for headband padding and simply increased clamping force to prevent discomfort from the headband, but it distributes discomfort in multiple places.Don’t get me wrong, this is not a horribly uncomfortable headphone, but it’s definitely not geared towards long-term comfort in my experience.CONTROLS:On the right ear cup, you’ll find all the controls and the USB-C input for charging. You have the multifunction button, as well as volume buttons and a playback/pause button.You can pair by holding the multifunction button until you hear an audible noise and voice, and you can switch between the ANC and transparency mode by double pressing the multifunction button. To my surprise, you can spawn your device’s voice assistant by a single tap of the multifunction button. Most devices I’ve used would let that be a secondary action instead of primary action, so I found that strange.And if you want to hear the battery status, you can hold the playback button. I think some of these are less intuitive, and I’d like to see some ability to re-configure these controls, but since this is a mid-budget ANC headphone, I doubt we’ll ever see that kind of improvement to the user experience.APP:The Sennheiser Smart Control app has some potential, but needs a bit of refinement as well. The Accentum supports 2 devices connected simultaneously, but it can pair to more devices. The app itself lets you switch between your paired devices, switch between ANC and Transparency mode, adjust sidetone for phone calls, and adjust the 5-band EQ.Additionally, if you want to register with a Sennheiser account, you can create special customized EQ presets for different genres and styles through the Sound Check feature, and you can also use the Sound Zone feature to automate your settings based on your geo location. I tried the Sound Check feature which gave me options to pick from while listening to my music, and I ended up with a completely flat EQ—so no EQ at all.This is a pretty decent way of determining your listening preference for different styles of music, but given that it can only adjust across 5 bands, it’s also fairly limited in how well it can tune to your preferences.SOUND:The sound profile of the Accentum leans toward the typical consumer-grade V-shape with accentuated bass and elevated treble. While I tend to prefer a treble forward sound signature, I actually found that setting a -1.6dB drop at the 8kHz shelf in the EQ was a bit more preferable for me. Not a significant change, but it helped make my music sound a little bit more balanced.Other than that, it’s really hard to fault the Accentum for its tuning. The bass shelf is tasteful for most music without becoming overwhelming. I listen to mostly a mixture of Pop, R&B, Metal & Instrumental music. And while the Accentum didn’t “wow” me with its sound, it also didn’t do anything to disappoint me. I think the only disappointing aspect was the fact that I couldn’t wear it for longer due to physical discomfort.The soundstage is average, vocals present themselves as well-balanced in the mix, and more mid-range focused elements like guitars can push forward without drowning out other elements in the mix. Your mileage may vary if you apply EQ in the app, but at least with a flat curve it’s a tasteful tuning.With that said, it’s not going to deliver a ton of detail and resolution, so audiophiles will want to temper expectations here.ANC / AMBIENT SOUND:The ANC is one of the weaker elements of the Accentum. At its price point, the Accentum has middle-of-the-road active noise cancellation, and unfortunately that also comes with an elevated noise floor. While higher-end ANC headphones will be very quiet when you engage the ANC, the Accentum exhibits some noise when ANC is engaged. When music is playing it’s not really noticeable, but if you are the kind of person who likes to put ANC headphones on just for silence, the Accentum ruins that with a bit of noise.So you can expect it’ll be effective at canceling some degree of background noise, but it won’t compare with more sophisticated methodologies of higher-end ANC headphones.The Transparency mode also exhibits a higher noise floor compared to the ANC mode—which isn’t surprising. However, speaking out loud with this mode engaged does sound pretty clear with just a bit of muffling. But I could certainly engage this mode and clearly hear what’s going on in my surroundings without issue.MICROPHONE:The microphone on the Accentum is serviceable for quieter environments, but will perform pretty poorly in environments where there is a lot of background noise. In my testing, clapping or background noises like music or speech is picked up by the Accentum, and there’s no setting in the app for any sort of AI microphone noise rejection.The audio that does get picked up by the Accentum also sounds a touch distant, so speech will sound like it’s coming from a few feet away. This didn’t really impact clarity too much since it picks up midrange and treble frequencies pretty consistently, but the microphone does have some potential to clip if you tend to project your voice. It’s probably fine for most people, but it definitely has a run-of-the-mill phone call quality sound to it.BATTERY:Sennheiser boasts that the Accentum can reach up to 50 hours of battery on a single charge, and thus far, they are living up to that claim. Bluetooth 5.2 introduces new advancements for lower power consumption, and the Accentum is taking advantage of that.CONCLUSION:The Sennheiser Accentum is a headphone that could be better, but perhaps not without some additional cost. Cutbacks were made in order to target the asking price, and those concessions may well be worth the savings to some people. If you have smaller ears or are not sensitive to clamping pressure or thin headband padding, the Accentum is honestly a decent sounding headphone with mid-range ANC performance.But if you have a larger head, larger ears or are more susceptible to discomfort with headphones, then I do think you should skip the Accentum because comfort should never be sacrificed for a headphone—especially one that you plan to wear for extended periods of time.

If I could make one change, it would be to increase the maximum volume output of the headphones. Don't get me wrong, they have good volume, but there are times with certain songs you just want to get that extra bit of sound coming through and these are not designed to get to that ear damaging level. Actually, that probably a good thing. The bass is nice, smooth and clean. I havn't picked up on much, if any distortion, from these headphones regardless of the type of music I have listened to. These are nice, clear, concise and have a nice ability to provide bass at just the right level. I do with they were just a little louder, but they do sound really good.

It’s a small thing, but you don’t see many headphones supporting both directions these days.COMFORT:Out of the box, the comfort of the Accentum is ever-so-slightly above average. Personally, I think the clamping pressure is too much, so I’d stretch these out over a box before trying to wear them for many hours at a time. I was able to wear them on and off throughout the day, but I’d usually experience some level of discomfort from the clamping pressure.That being said, the ear pads themselves are quite soft, but the headband padding is thin and rather firm for my head. If you are the kind of person who frequently experiences discomfort from cheaper headphones, then I don’t think this headphone is going to solve that problem. I think Sennheiser/Sonova put more emphasis in making comfortable ear pads and decided to cut back on the budget for headband padding and simply increased clamping force to prevent discomfort from the headband, but it distributes discomfort in multiple places.Don’t get me wrong, this is not a horribly uncomfortable headphone, but it’s definitely not geared towards long-term comfort in my experience.CONTROLS:On the right ear cup, you’ll find all the controls and the USB-C input for charging. You have the multifunction button, as well as volume buttons and a playback/pause button.You can pair by holding the multifunction button until you hear an audible noise and voice, and you can switch between the ANC and transparency mode by double pressing the multifunction button. To my surprise, you can spawn your device’s voice assistant by a single tap of the multifunction button. Most devices I’ve used would let that be a secondary action instead of primary action, so I found that strange.And if you want to hear the battery status, you can hold the playback button. I think some of these are less intuitive, and I’d like to see some ability to re-configure these controls, but since this is a mid-budget ANC headphone, I doubt we’ll ever see that kind of improvement to the user experience.APP:The Sennheiser Smart Control app has some potential, but needs a bit of refinement as well. The Accentum supports 2 devices connected simultaneously, but it can pair to more devices. The app itself lets you switch between your paired devices, switch between ANC and Transparency mode, adjust sidetone for phone calls, and adjust the 5-band EQ.Additionally, if you want to register with a Sennheiser account, you can create special customized EQ presets for different genres and styles through the Sound Check feature, and you can also use the Sound Zone feature to automate your settings based on your geo location. I tried the Sound Check feature which gave me options to pick from while listening to my music, and I ended up with a completely flat EQ—so no EQ at all.This is a pretty decent way of determining your listening preference for different styles of music, but given that it can only adjust across 5 bands, it’s also fairly limited in how well it can tune to your preferences.SOUND:The sound profile of the Accentum leans toward the typical consumer-grade V-shape with accentuated bass and elevated treble. While I tend to prefer a treble forward sound signature, I actually found that setting a -1.6dB drop at the 8kHz shelf in the EQ was a bit more preferable for me. Not a significant change, but it helped make my music sound a little bit more balanced.Other than that, it’s really hard to fault the Accentum for its tuning. The bass shelf is tasteful for most music without becoming overwhelming. I listen to mostly a mixture of Pop, R&B, Metal & Instrumental music. And while the Accentum didn’t “wow” me with its sound, it also didn’t do anything to disappoint me. I think the only disappointing aspect was the fact that I couldn’t wear it for longer due to physical discomfort.The soundstage is average, vocals present themselves as well-balanced in the mix, and more mid-range focused elements like guitars can push forward without drowning out other elements in the mix. Your mileage may vary if you apply EQ in the app, but at least with a flat curve it’s a tasteful tuning.With that said, it’s not going to deliver a ton of detail and resolution, so audiophiles will want to temper expectations here.ANC / AMBIENT SOUND:The ANC is one of the weaker elements of the Accentum. At its price point, the Accentum has middle-of-the-road active noise cancellation, and unfortunately that also comes with an elevated noise floor. While higher-end ANC headphones will be very quiet when you engage the ANC, the Accentum exhibits some noise when ANC is engaged. When music is playing it’s not really noticeable, but if you are the kind of person who likes to put ANC headphones on just for silence, the Accentum ruins that with a bit of noise.So you can expect it’ll be effective at canceling some degree of background noise, but it won’t compare with more sophisticated methodologies of higher-end ANC headphones.The Transparency mode also exhibits a higher noise floor compared to the ANC mode—which isn’t surprising. However, speaking out loud with this mode engaged does sound pretty clear with just a bit of muffling. But I could certainly engage this mode and clearly hear what’s going on in my surroundings without issue.MICROPHONE:The microphone on the Accentum is serviceable for quieter environments, but will perform pretty poorly in environments where there is a lot of background noise. In my testing, clapping or background noises like music or speech is picked up by the Accentum, and there’s no setting in the app for any sort of AI microphone noise rejection.The audio that does get picked up by the Accentum also sounds a touch distant, so speech will sound like it’s coming from a few feet away. This didn’t really impact clarity too much since it picks up midrange and treble frequencies pretty consistently, but the microphone does have some potential to clip if you tend to project your voice. It’s probably fine for most people, but it definitely has a run-of-the-mill phone call quality sound to it.BATTERY:Sennheiser boasts that the Accentum can reach up to 50 hours of battery on a single charge, and thus far, they are living up to that claim. Bluetooth 5.2 introduces new advancements for lower power consumption, and the Accentum is taking advantage of that.CONCLUSION:The Sennheiser Accentum is a headphone that could be better, but perhaps not without some additional cost. Cutbacks were made in order to target the asking price, and those concessions may well be worth the savings to some people. If you have smaller ears or are not sensitive to clamping pressure or thin headband padding, the Accentum is honestly a decent sounding headphone with mid-range ANC performance.But if you have a larger head, larger ears or are more susceptible to discomfort with headphones, then I do think you should skip the Accentum because comfort should never be sacrificed for a headphone—especially one that you plan to wear for extended periods of time.

They quickly paired via Bluetooth and I added them to the Sennheiser Smart Control app on my phone. I found the overall sound quality and ANC to be the biggest plus for these headphones. The mids and highs are very clear and the bass is solid without being overwhelming. With the fit so tight I think heavy bass in these headphones might be painful. The ANC noise cancellation is good – again the tight fit also helps eliminate the environmental sounds. On the down side the control buttons are on the right ear muff and they are very small and can be difficult to differentiate. There is a separate switch that provides on/off/pairing and a row of three switches that provide the volume and play controls. The on/off switch and play control button have multiple functions depending on the number of taps or length of tap. Because the buttons are so small they can be problematic especially if you have larger fingers or wear gloves. The headphones do have a few voice prompts but most indications are tone based. For example if you put the headphones in pairing mode you hear a tone but when they connect you hear a voice prompt say connected! I find the mix a tad strange and surprised that headphones of this quality use anything but voice prompts. The headphones don’t auto-pause when you remove them but they do auto-pause when you turn off the ANC. Using the Sennheiser Sound App you can set up a custom equalizer, add bass boost, turn on/off the ANC and adjust the Sidetones for phone calls. The app is very simplistic and straightforward. If you create a Sennheiser account you can use the Sound Check and Sound Zone features to create custom equalizers and setting for specific music and zones. Note that the app doesn’t let you change the functions of the buttons on the headphones. While the build quality feels and looks solid they do not include a bag or carrying case to help protect them when in transit.Fit: The overall build and look of these headphones are great but the fit feels tight and because of this they really push on glasses if you wear them. The ear muffs feel smaller than other headphones I have used and the top bar which sits on your head isn’t the softest padding which adds to the tight fit. They are light and ear muffs themselves are made with a soft material that conforms to your fit.

There is an option called Discover where some tips regarding hearing and ear care are shown, as well as promotion of the brand's products. It seems that the app has many different functions but the reality is that there is little that can be used to improve the experience of using the device.Moving on to one of the most important parts, the performance, I must admit that I was surprised for good, considering the price of this device and in comparison with similar products of even high range. The sound is clear, the bass feels present although it lacks a bit of punch but the equalizer helps a bit in this. The mids and highs excel, whether listening to music, audiobooks, content of any platform or in calls, the sound is loud and clear without distortion with noise cancellation on and off. Regarding the ANC I can say that this device does very well, in my case despite having the AC running at maximum, this itself causes the noise to increase, I can enjoy a movie or a music album without interruptions and with as much concentration as possible. The transparency mode is something that I consider a strong point since many devices, regardless of price, fail in this aspect but in these headphones this is not the case, in fact I could say that it is one of the most natural sounding compared to other "expert" brands in this.While for the price you pay you get some positive aspects, there are other aspects that are still pending and can be missed, such as slightly larger buttons, some icons that indicate the functions of the buttons, LED battery indicators in real time, sensors that detect when you have the headphones on, 3.5mm jack connection, greater possibility of customizing the headphones, a case to carry and protect the headphones, etc.In summary, I can say that these headphones offer just enough and a little bit more for their price. They are a viable option if you do not want to spend too much on headphones and want to have active noise cancellation, they have a sober and minimalist design, an app that allows you to customize the headphones and improve the experience, good microphone and outstanding sound, definitely an option to consider.

You can also shift to transparent if you need to hear ambient sounds. I’ve come to learn that most of these headphones, even the more expensive ones, only block out certain frequencies. There is connection management that will give you a list of devices that you have connected for management. There is a sound check if you want to customize your presets. You can step through a series of choices as you're playing a song to dial in exactly what equalizer settings sound best and it will save your own custom equalizer. You can also choose from a variety of common music presets or dial in a custom equalizer that reads back dB levels to you as you make your changes. There’s an additional Bass Boost feature and a Podcast preset that focuses on voice clarity. Sound zones are available if you want to create sound settings based on your location such as home, work, gym, etc. And lastly, there’s a Sidetone feature that feeds back a little bit of your voice during phone calls to give you more of a natural sounding phone call. I’ve never thought about this but it makes sense because on our phones we always hear our voices and headphones tend to cancel out some of that noise so I like the idea. Overall I like the app and its customization features, especially with the equalizer. However, I do wish it had a few presets for TV, movies, or youtube. I did watch a few movies and the sound was excellent. I didn’t really feel like I needed to dial in the sound for movies but the preset would be nice.Phone calls are clear. The 2 way microphone does what it need to remove excessive background noise. The sidetone is also a cool feature that can be dialed in to make it sound more like a typical phone call. You have all the typical buttons available for accepting and rejecting phone calls. Google assistant is also available when needed.Sound performance is impressive. These headphones really stand out in the bass department. What’s nice is the headphones aren’t just bass, they have a fine attention to highs, mids, and lows. Music is quite an experience with these headphones. I listen to a variety of music from 80’s to Rock to Hip-Hop and I loved every second of it. When I compare these to higher end headphones I feel like they hang right in there. The sound just delivers in every genre and has a great balance that I’ve come to know with other Sennheiser products. What I mean by balance is the bass mids and treble seem to be at just the right volume levels without being obnoxious, just a pleasant, smooth sound, with absolutely no distortion. The volume is adequate too. I felt like the highest setting on volume was just a bit too loud which is great considering some headphones I’ve had just don’t get loud enough when I really want to turn the volume up. Bass Boost tends to lower the volume down a bit, and I really don’t see the need for it because the bass is excellent on these headphones and the equalizer can be dialed in to boost if necessary. After comparing these Sennheisers with 2 other pairs of Sony (one similar, and one higher end) and one pair of beats fit pro earbuds there isn’t a lot of separation between all four, but there are some distinct differences. The bass is a little tighter on the the higher end Sonys but not necessarily better, actually the opposite. The earbuds have good bass but don’t hit as hard as any of the over the ear headphones. The Sennheisers have a distinct bass that sounds like a larger range in the lower frequencies that in my opinion is more pleasant. If I can tell you anything, the Sennheisers have a detailed, quality sound that won’t disappoint.The question is should you buy these headphones? For the category they reside in, I would recommend these headphones. They are a respectable brand with quality sound engineering, and you can hear it in these headphones. They offer everything that comparable headphones offer in the feature and sound department. Their app offers you everything you need, and a few things you don’t. I personally haven’t seen a battery last this long either. If you’re looking for a case, more comfort, or higher end build quality, you will need to spend more money. But higher frequencies sound somewhat muted to me - the headphones claim to respond up to 22 kHz but it sounds like there is a significant drop off at the higher frequencies. Even adjusting equalization, I was never able to contour the sound in a way that made the higher frequencies in music come across naturally. Finally, I felt like the maximum volume available in these headphones should have been a little more aggressive - I could never get quieter music up to a level that felt like peak listening volume.These are very nice but they feel like Sennheiser was just phoning things in to hit a cheaper price point.

They are light and comfortable for long listening sessions. The battery seemingly lasts forever. The ear cups fold flat on your chest when not in use. The sound quality is excellent. They have a minimalist design aesthetic.I really can’t find anything negative to say other than I would always like to see a clam shell type case included with all over-the-ear headphones for tossing into a backpack, etc.I highly recommend checking these out at your local Best Buy if you can!
Received these, and due to the brand reputation, had high expectations. I found the instructions a little sketchy, and print tiny. Anyway, I downloaded the Sennheiser Smart Control and got the headphones paired with my phone. I did find the equalizer, noise reduction, etc. all worked well. Then came first disappointment - it appears the app will only work on Android and Apple devices. I had hoped that, because many Chromebooks can run Android apps, this would work on them. Not so, only phones and tablets running Android. That leaves out using all the nice features on Chromebooks and Windows machines. You can directly connect Bluetooth to these other devices, but lose the controls and flexibility built into the app. Would necessitate using music player apps / ... Oh well, on to actually testing the sound and comfort…..I found the earcups fairly soft, and encompassed my ears well. However, the clamping force was high, and would make extended listening uncomfortable. I think the head band could be flexed a little to relieve some pressure.As to sound, I did test using the app on my phone, and also with just a straight Bluetooth connection with a Chromebook.I would never consider these headphones "bass-head" type - bass was defined and deep, but lacked a little punch. Using no EQ, the sound was somewhat mellow with miids a little pronounced. Using the EQ, I was able to bring the bass out and it remained clean - not muddy. Also adding a touch to upper treble brought the cymbals alive.Then to a straight Bluetooth connection to a Chromebook. Using a player, I found the sound to be similar to using the phone with no EQ, noise reduction, etc.Although good headphones, the addition of a compatible app to use with other devices would be a necessity for a home run…..
