I can see why this stood the test of time, since it's a really interesting and intriguing combination of light and intensely dark notes. The incense here smells more like a sweet incense burning in a Tibetan shop than the dour church incense type of smell that many fragrances with incense as a note sometimes smell like (a la Serge Lutens types). At the same time, it has a citrus burst of freshness in the background, some sweet creaminess from the vanilla and sandalwood, and powdery from the iris and rose. It definitely smells mature, but not nearly as dated as I thought it would. It's also a lot more unisex than I thought it would be. It's a little too earthy/dark for me to want to wear it myself, but I appreciate the nuances of it and can appreciate why it's ... MoreI can see why this stood the test of time, since it's a really interesting and intriguing combination of light and intensely dark notes. This is a very sentimental scent ( pun intended). My mother passed this past March and my Pop used to buy her Shalimar. I remember how pretty the bottle was. How fancy it was. In reality my mother didn't like it! It's very heavy and reminds me of incense. She wore it for him because it was the scent he liked on her. So it seems as you have to smell this one yourself...you're either going to love it's heavy spiced floral...or hate it and say it smells like an "old lady perfume " ( whatever that's supposed to mean, I know Older ladies who smell amazing...just like Tom Ford and wisdom😉)

Guerlain is the only brand of perfume I can blind buy. I got this at a duty free store while we were flying back home from Mirocco vacation after trying for years to find in the US back in 2017. This perfume is something I will save for my next generation. I use it very sparingly and less us more with this perfume. It’s a clean sophisticated perfume which lasts 6 plus hours and it gets along really well with my body chemistry. This perfume is definitely not for all. The initial spray comes out strong and the then it starts shining through after half an hour or so. You can smell it for days on clothes. A classic vanilla with notes of citrus and incense. The vetiver, sandalwood from the dry down smell warm and comforting.

~It's a warm summers evening. You're smoking a cigarette as long as your arm with one hand, and holding an ice cold negroni in the other. You're dressed in a gold chiffon blouse with white wide legged linen pants. The sun is shining brightly so taking off your brown Marc Jacobs sunnies is not an option, but you don't care, they only add to your outfit~ Initial smell - Bergamot blends with patchouli, cedar and Sandalwood to give it a strong soapy/powder like smell which fades in and out throughout wear. Medium- Cinnamon spicy vanilla notes melt in to the skin, giving a warm oriental smell that is extremely beautiful and exotic/classy/expensive. I think it's best suited to a more mature mid 30's - 40's woman. Definitely a classy fragrance, but takes the right person to pull it off
Christmas is the hardest working period of the year for your lady. Children , grandchildren, family, visitors. You know what I mean. Your lady will commence work in the home weeks before the big day, decorating beds, food and booze , meals . No , that's only the beginning of the work she puts in to ensuring each and everyone of us mortals enjoy our Christmas holiday. I discovered that the woman of your dreams asks for little in return, but buy her a very special gift, say Shalimar, and she will forgive you for failing to assist her but better still love you for the next 12 months.
I have heard of Shalimar perfume ever since I was a kid, but never have smelled it since recently and oh my, is it exquisite. I was always too worried to give it a try, because of it being a vintage perfume. I was afraid it would smell like an "old lady" smell, but I was pleasantly surprised. The first spray was quite strong and it stays quite strong until the dry down. My goodness I have never smelled a drydown from a perfume that changes so much from the opening spray and notes. The perfume definitely has a vintage smell, but still in a modern way. It's very powdery and smooth and the scent has a mild sillage but great longevity on my skin. I do find it more fitting for a more mature woman, and even for mature 20 and 30 something year olds. Plus I think that younger girls and women would think it was an "old lady" smell. I definitely recommend all women trying this scent and seeing if it's for them. This was a great blind buy for me, but you may want to try this scent in a sample size first.
I have bought Shalinar for 47 years! I'm 65 yrs old now. Shalimar on my body is pure chemistry! It is a fabulous for me! I have never bought any other scent, ever! Wherever I go people make great comments on how good I smell. The scent lasts a fairly long time before one needs to freshen it up. At one point in time, the formula changed a bit and I had a hard time adjusting to the new formula, it just wasn't the same. But still, Shalimar smells best on me and it is the best scent for me.
EVERY SINGLE TIME. Every single time I wear this. I get the most compliments. The lasting power is insane. It is strong. This is not for someone who is not used to wearing fragrance, could be overwhelming. I love it the most when I've assisted in my skin right after the shower then get ready. Sprayed on clothes is a little overwhelming. By far my favorite scent. It is powdery
From the back of the bookJeff Winston was fortythree and trapped in a tepid marriage and a deadend job, waiting for that time when he could be truly happy, when he died. And then he woke up and he was eighteen, with all his memories of the next twentyfive years intact. He could live his life again, avoiding the mistakes, making money from his knowledge of the future, seeking happiness. Until he dies at fortythree and wakes up back in college again ...First off, Grimwood what a great name Id never heard of him until a few weeks back, never heard of this book. To say more about the story than whats above would, I think, be to damage it beyond repair. Replay is a fantasy novel. To say more about the story than whats above would, I think, be to damage it beyond repair. Replay is a fantasy novel. Its the sort of fantasy novel that gives the lie to those who think the genre is just about swords, sorcery, orcs, goblins, elves, dwarves, dragons, wizards and farmboys with a destiny. Instead, its about life, about learning to live with failure and regrets and loneliness, and love and joy and freedom, about how one word in the wrong place can change a life forever. In fact, its how Jeff chooses to live each of his replays, the mistakes he makes, the triumphs he has, that makes him and all the characters from his life that were introduced to along the way so endearing. You live through all their highs and lows with them, and marvel at the way Grimwood portrays them with subtle and not so subtle differences each life through. It may sound a bit like Groundhog Day but trust me it is so much more than that.I found Replay witty, sad, scary, uplifting and heartbreaking. Every time I thought I knew what was going to happen it pulled the rug out from under my feet. It never resorts to schmaltz or is even vaguely sentimental. In fact, at times it is downright brutal, and it is constantly surprising. I loved it from start to finish in fact I dont think it makes a single misstep. Its just a wonderful, wonderful story, brilliantly told, and its message is clear.I cant believe I hadnt heard of it before and dammit I cant fault it at all.
this fragrance is actually quite a bit softer than i was expecting. with the EDT, it’s dry, acrid, smoky incense all the way, so i was expecting much the same from this. i couldn’t have been more wrong. it opens with light citrus notes, but nothing too overpowering, which then give way to the most lovely iris and, yes, incense. but the incense is nowhere near as dry and bold as it is in the EDT, it’s MUCH sweeter and softer. the iris is pretty powdery, so i can see how people are getting baby powder from it, but i don’t find it unpleasant at all. like all Shalimars, it really melds beautifully with sweat and dirty skin, which is one of my favorite things about it - this isn’t a ‘clean girl’ fragrance by any means. honestly, i think i prefer the EDT in all its ... Morethis fragrance is actually quite a bit softer than i was expecting. with the EDT, it’s dry, acrid, smoky incense all the way, so i was expecting much the same from this. i couldn’t have been more wrong. it opens with light citrus notes, but nothing too overpowering, which then give way to the most lovely iris and, yes, incense. but the incense is nowhere near as dry and bold as it is in the EDT, it’s MUCH sweeter and softer. the iris is pretty powdery, so i can see how people are getting baby powder from it, but i don’t find it unpleasant at all. like all Shalimars, it really melds beautifully with sweat and dirty skin, which is one of my favorite things about it - this isn’t a ‘clean girl’ fragrance by any means. honestly, i think i prefer the EDT in all its offputting glory, but this is a lovely little fragrance for the day.

Shalimar was created by Jacques Guerlain in 1925, as a tribute to the legendary love story between Emperor SHAHJAHAN and his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Before he became emperor his name was Prince Khurram. According to the legend, twenty- year-old Prince Khurram met a young girl, named Arjumand Banu at the bazaar where her family worked. Mesmerized by her beauty, after becoming emperor, he made her his wife as Mumtaz Mahal, meaning the Jewel of the Palace. After the wedding ,the prince and Mumtaz were inseparable, in war and in peace. She had given 13 children to Shahjahan and died during the birth of their 14th child at the age of 39. Her death devastated Shah Jahan and had built Taj Mahal in memory of his wife and their undying love. Shalimar is named after The Gardens of Shalimar. Perfume is composed of citrus notes; lemon and bergamot, jasmine, may rose, opoponax, Tonka bean, vanilla, iris, Peru balsam and gray amber. Coolness of the citrus notes leads to floral heart ending with a warm and luxurious trail.
