My previous reel was earlier version and worked great for a lot of years. Spool started to back up a little when setting the hook. This reel was an excellent replacement. Old one had trigger cast, which never worked. This does not and is perfect. Best reel for the money. Smaller in size. I use 15lb braided line on 6.5' firm rod for bass fishing. Great casting distance.

The reel is great! It was shipped quickly, even during the holiday rush and arrived in great condition. The reel is beautiful and exactly what I needed for a new ACC crappie pole.
I've owned the 2000 size for 18 months now and use it for light sea fishing - float and lure work. The reel is undeniably Shimano despite its budget price tag, offering smooth retrieve and reliable function of all key parts: drag, bail, handle. It won't win any beauty contests in its plain, unpainted carbon garb, but if you're tackling fish on the sub 10lb bracket like bass, pollack, codling and mackerel, you won't regret your choice or feel you haven't had value for the small amount of cash you've splashed. I have fancy reels too but it saddens me to scrape them on rocks, so often the FX will be handed the "stuntman" role and will invariably fill in admirably!
Great value reel from Shimano. Nice build quality and smooth operation. Decent drag as well for this price level. Highly recommend this for light tackle fishing for Bream, Flathead or chopper Tailor in the Swan River.
Very compact and very rigid reel. It works quietly. The brake is very precise and powerful. Thread alignment is extremely good. The quality is much higher than the price and only Shimano can do that!
Overall a solid reel for the price that you pay. So far I have no complaints, the bail flipped on me while I was casting once but that was only one time. Drag on the reel is more than you'll need for most fish but good to know you have it just in case. Perfect for a small lightweight rod set up.
A sensational role whether in 1000 or 2000. I am totally thrilled, super brake, have caught with the 1000FX a 4180g trout. Absolut empfehlentswert, also the 2000FX super. for the price, the hammer, price performance: very good
