The knife feels great in the hand, and so far has retained its edge beautifully. This is the second Shun knife I've purchased, having been the owner of a Shun chefs' knife for nearly a decade. They're not cheap, so a repeat purchase says it all really.

Beautiful knife. Stays sharp for long. If you heavily prep though I suggest getting a ceramic honing. They dull out after heavy prep for a couple of months.

William Morris said to have nothing in your home that is not either beautiful or useful. This knife is 5 star for both! Superbly designed and manufactured, it is a delight to behold, and supremely useful. Great balance and weight. Just as good as it gets to use.

I recently purchased this paring knife for myself. It is absolutely beautiful in every way. Being Shun the knife edge is super sharp. Being Shun the knife if beautiful!
We tirelessly poured over so many options for our registry for knives to a point of too much information. I kept coming back to the Shun Premier because the caliber, price point and aesthetics were just right. The lifetime sharpening is just an added bonus.Wow were we right! I LOVE THESE KNIVES! We use them at least once a day and more than that on weekends - the first thing I cut with this knife it was an experience. I had never has such ease in cutting anything. The knife just glided through the onion and it was a very special experience. I do not find cutting and chopping a chore anymore with these knives. It is such a delightful experience. The knives are very sharp so mind your cuts and fingers. What I like:They are exceptionally sharpVery agileNot ... MoreWe tirelessly poured over so many options for our registry for knives to a point of too much information. This is not a knife you leave laying around dirty or in a sink. It can warp the wood and it is not good for this caliber instrument.Tip: We added the Williams Sonoma Basic Blade Guards, Set of 4 to our registry and use the blade guards so we can store these knives in a drawer. We live in Manhattan and a knife block is not a current storage option. I would highly recommend evaluating storage options if you have a limited space kitchen there are a few including an in drawer insert.
I've been aggravated by my Cutco paring knife that refuses to hold its sharpness. Cheap paring knives end up being practically disposable. I'm grateful to have found Shun at my local kitchen store and was able to order through the Shun website. The handle is a perfect length and comfortable. Blade is gorgeous and the right size for what I need. I'm excited to have this part of my knife set.
If you are considering paying this much for a paring knife you have done the bulk of the research (or are too foolish to be reading ghis or any other review). The knife lives up to the Shun reputation and the Premier slate of offerings.I will therefore only add that ALL knives in this category do have a “not-disqualifying’ tendency to stick (referring obviously to the item being chopped sticking to any of the blades in this line). This is a theme reflected in a multitude of reviews.I do recommend this knife and Shun Premier knives across the board (have not personally owned any other Shun Knives).
Like all my recent Shun purchases this one is no exception. Great craftsmanship, a pleasure to hold and use.I was trying this knife out by peeling some small mangos in my hands. Obviously the juices made it slippery and difficult to hold. Regardless, didn't even realize that I had cut my thumb, not deep enough to draw blood but the point is that these are razor sharp. Always a pleasure to use a sharp knife in the kitchen.
This is the best pairing knife I’ve had. Great precision, easy to sharpen, and holds its sharpness for an extended period of time. Aesthetically, the wood grain is beautiful and looks great in a kitchen. You can tell the quality of the blade and the hammering detail adds a great touch.
We got this as a wedding present and it is just such a joy to use. I want to use it for everything because it's so smooth and easy. It is incredibly sharp so not for the whole family, but now that I've tried it, I plan to build a whole set of the same knives. You do have to be careful with it. Wood cutting boards only and blade cover needed, which annoyingly does not come with it, so you have to buy them separately from Shun.
