This lens is amazing. I can get super close to my macro subjects and have complete lens control. So much better than stacking tubes and trying to get the camera to behave. This one rocks. Superb sharpness and clarity using my Sony A7RIV. No problems with resolution that I can see.Shooting macro can be very challenging with the razor thin focus area. I was able to setup some subjects using a tripod and the Sony app...I can put the camera (not lens) in manual focus, snap a photo, and then using the app adjust focus just a little bit. Rinse, lather, repeat until I have quite a set of shots to assemble back into photoshop.The size, weight, fit and finish of this lens do not disappoint. Writing this review from the perspective of a filmmaker and longtime owner of the Sigma 35mm f1.4 - I absolutely LOVE this Sigma 24-70mm! Debated heavily whether or not to purchase this lens, but I wish I would've sooner. For years, I've only used primes. The majority of my lenses are f1.8 or 1.4, so I've become accustomed to having that extra low light performance... as well as having to do lens changes at the *most inconvenient* times and places. This lens in conjunction with the Sony A1 body made my job easier without compromising what matters most.For run and gun filmmaking, weddings, and gimbal work: the subject matter is too unpredictable not to have a zoom lens. Happy to report that my lens isn't suffering from this issue so far. The front glass element is immaculate!VIDEO SHOOTERS: The autofocus is DEAD SILENT and lightning fast!!! For comparison, my Sigma 35mm f1.4 is loud enough to hear ticking noises in the scratch audio. Having owned several G-Master lenses, it's not noticeably any different in terms of focusing accuracy or speed. I actually prefer pulling focus on this Sigma BETTER than pulling focus on my G-Masters.Really the only thing about this lens that I don't like is that at 24mm, straight lines have a small amount of barrel distortion. It only seems to be a problem when shooting photos. Haven't noticed it while shooting video. But keep in mind, this lens is giving you wide angle and telephoto at the same time. In order for the optic to have so much range, of course there's going to be a bit of distortion. This is really splitting hairs here, and the Sony/Tamron 24-70mm variants aren't immune either. In an ideal world, there would be a 10-1000mm F1.0 lens with no distortion. But until that day comes, get this lens instead!!!

It's becoming cliche but owning this lens is really like having a bag of primes. It might be a bit naive of me but I don't think I'm ever going to have purchase another wide angle because of this lens. It's that good. I use it on an A7rii but from the tests I have seen, it resolves 60mp well. I don't think I'm ever going to need more mp than that.Having to purchase a filter holder makes the cost more difficult to swallow. I went with the Nisi S6 and I went with the entire holder even though I will just use the polarizer. I wanted the option to use a square polarizer, just in case. The filter holder is easier to put on in comparison to a screw on or 100mm system IMO. For those that do want top tier image quality in multiple focal lengths and don't want to shell out the money for the Sony 12-24 GM, look no further than the Sigma 14-24mm Art.

I was looking for a 35mmf1.4, already owning Sony 20mmf1.8, Sony 24mmf1.4 GM, Samyang 50mmf.1.4 version II, Sigma 85mmf1.4 DN Art for my A7R4. All those lenses are excellent, including the Samyang (although it's eye AF in low light is not as strong as others). Most reviews say Sony 35mmf1.4 GM is better optically than the Sigma, especially regarding longitudinal chromatic aberration. So I bought a used (Condition 10 good as new) Sony 35mm from BHphoto. I was disappointed with its sharpness at f1.4 even with good AF in daylight. So I returned it and bought this Sigma. The Sigma definitely sharp wide open and eye AF is quick and accurate. Pros: Sharp edge to edge, no field curvature to speak of, low distortion.The flat plane of focus is the big positive, as zooms usually have curved focal planes (the side of the frame focused more to the foreground). Here with the 28mm art, flat subjects and horizons are sharp edge to edge.The distortion is negligible (for instance the distortion of the 30mm Art is high - as is it's CA). CA with the 28mm Art is also negligible.Great lens.Cons: AF on my Sigma sd Quattro often missed completely. I can see this in the viewfinder, so it just needs another attempt to AF then it hits focus fine. This is why I've marked ease of use as a 7 (as it requires more work on my part to notice missed AF). Pros:Sharp images, even wide open, exceeded my expectations.Balanced well on Sony a7III body.Colors appear accurate, likewise the contrast is excellent.Appealing soft out of focus areas.Cons:Heavy, much like a Cine lens, not your casual all day vacation lens.Sometimes misses eye focus using Sony a7III.Draws attention, but that is only important if you are a street shooter.Summary: Questionable value at release price, but excellent value at Adorama price as of May 2022. Easy to hand hold and no concerns about shooting wide open. If sharpness is your goal then the lens will not disappoint. Combined with NISI Ti UV filter for excellent results. Highly recommended.

I am very impressed however with the combination of sharpness and contrast which creates a very strong 3d image. I haven't shot anything from Canon or Sigma with this much depth, and I don't regret going with the 28mm over the Zeiss competition.For others like myself cross shopping against Zeiss, it's not a strong contrast like the distagon 35mm f2 but it is present and neutral. Shadow detail/recovery as well has control of highlights surprised me again, my Canon (eos R) sensor was the limit rather than optical limits. While I've only had the lens for a bit more than a week, I am pleasantly surprised with its performance, so far. Like my other Sigma lens, the image is sharp and the and the color rendition is good. So far, I've experimented with the lens for table-top photography and the results are quite good. The lens plays very well with My SL2, which I typically use in manual mode. One difference I've noted thus far is that the lens cannot be automatically focused using the joy stick when in manual mode, but it plays well with the auto enlarge feature of the SL2 to allow for precise focusing. I bought this lens because I appreciate the 28mm focal length and enjoy using primes. Sigma has a look to it that I really like, and this lens doesn't disappoint.Using the 28mm on my Sony A7RIV was not as easy as I expected as a casual shooter. This is due to the (somewhat) poor AF and missing lens profile in Capture One Pro. I must spend more time processing the raw images to make them look nice and am seeing many more shots with missed focus than I am used to.This was resolved somewhat by using software with the appropriate lens profile, and once I found an option, I was able to see what this lens is supposed to look like; it really does deserve the Art badge. It's not the sharpest lens in the world, but it produces incredible light-stars at f/5.6 and up, and it does a fantastic job controlling colors, glare, and just presents a very pleasant image. I've had some incredible results using a tripod and spending a minute or two setting up the scene. Open the lens up to f/2+ and you'll have an easier time achieving focus and avoiding haziness.I'm a mid-level hobbyist and I find this lens challenging to use but very gratifying when I get the shot right. This lens does an excellent job creating a well-balanced image that can be easily processed to achieve various looks; all with exceptional detail and quality.
I bought this a couple years ago and have regularly contemplated the other mid-zoom option (Sony GM) that I had briefly and thought was brilliant. But it was too big, noticeably big especially at weddings with a flash....Anywhoo, this Sigma takes amazingly sharp photos,lovely natural colour and the autofocus is quite fast! And its WAY smaller than the Sony, and half the price! I don't get it...Now, I have missed some shots with this lens, had someone in focus only to see later that it missed somehow. But that's not a common occurence. Now Sony has a version II GM, and I'm back pondering. Such a price difference simply doesn't make sense. If you shoot weddings,and want to NOT spend all your money on lenses, this one is really really good.
