The only negative I have come up with so far is the weight of the lens - about 7 pounds, which necessitates a tripod or monopod for truly sharp images at longer focal lengths and reasonable ISO settings. If you use an Arca Swiss tripod head, you will need to buy an adapter for the lens foot that comes with the lens. I should mention that this is my second Sigma 150-600mm Sport Lens. The first one I bought second hand and was not able to calibrate it correctly. I returned the first lens and bought this one new from B&H and I am very happy with it.

I bought this for a bit wider low end and a tad bit more reach than my Nikon 200-500. WOW, I'm super impressed by the long end of this lens. Usually a telephoto zoom degrades at the far end, but not with this beast. Have no fear of any image degredation at 600mm. I've found F8 to be the sweet spot for this lens, however anything lower than F8 is awesome too. Get the USB adapter and set up your custom functions. To prevent any hunting on airshows, I set one custom mode to focus from 300meters to Infinity. This gives a very shallow focus range, less movement and more tack sharp photos, none missed by hunting.

Only telephotos of extreme weight (and price) will outperform this lens for aperture, sharpness, and image quality. Surprisingly, fits well into a modest Manfrotto 'bee' backpack. Finally, the Sigma website demo videos, & others esp from USA on YouTube, were useful for initial set-up. I look fwd to 'mark II' from Sigma in a few years time (see 'cons')!Cons: Very little could be improved w/o modifying the portability/weight/price. Personally I'd like an additional smaller-diameter screw thread in the fixed mounting base-plate to enable lighter consumer-style monopods to be screwed in. I also added a removable Manfrotto base plate (14. x 5.5 cm) to the lens' own base-plate, enabling me to gain a better balance when handholding the lens at max zoom extension & leaving it ready to attach in a few seconds when needed to a Manfrotto 701RC2 tripod head or type 393 monopod head mounted on a carbon tripod). The essential protective lens hood works well but is very heavy (metal) - I'd suggest that Sigma design/provide an optional lightweight alternative for owners to order up. Finally, the provided fabric lens objective cover fits a little loosely & ideally needs a tag or suchlike to reversibly connect it to the hood somehow to prevent the nice padded cover being lost in the field (a pain in the rain, although using a removable lens 'coat' helps of course too to prevent splashes on the objective).Obviously this is a 'dense' heavy lens that is easiest used when mounted on a mono/tripod, & this mass issue will deter some users comparing it with for example Canon's 100-400 L mark II zoom (latter better for street/busy environments and where weight/packaging is a deciding issue, e.g. on some flights).
I purchased this lens to have a lens with longer reach than my Canon EF 100-400L is capable of. I have not been disappointed. The photos are sharp and the lens is a joy to use. Well built and feels like a more expensive lens than it is. Along with it being well built comes some extra weight, however, the weight is manageable and very easy to hand hold to photograph birds in flight. I highly recommend this lens and B&H gave me a great deal on it as always. I also highly recommend B&H, I have been a loyal customer for a lot of years.

(The R5's ability to autofocus well above f/8 and its relatively low noise levels at high ISOs enable me to combine reasonably fast shutter speeds with the lens stopped down at least a stop for shooting birds and creatures. Reviewing my captures on the R5's super high definition LCD view finder, I can zoom them in as far as it will allow and still see incredibly detailed super-sharp images. (While the combination allows for stopping down, the lens produces incredible images even wide open.)No other zoom I have owned is capable of capturing such fine detail at 840mm on a full frame sensor of 45 megapixels. The only arguable negative about this Sigma is its weight, but its extreme durability, reliability, and weather resistance easily offset that factor. Zoomed in with the hood reversed it takes up much less space than a 600mm f/4; yet it can take the place of several telephoto primes while producing images comparable to such an assortment.For years I have felt that one must accept the bulk and weight of such primes to obtain the quality of images they produce. All of a sudden I am forced to revisit and consider revising that opinion. I really hit the jackpot when I received my Deal Zone special!
Extremely fast (for its size) and confident and quick autofocus tracking abilities make this an incredible all-rounder zoom lens for the amateur wildlife photographer. I've only just begun to scratch the surface of this hobby and I am very happy I took the dive and went for something as high quality as this Sigma Sports product. The lens is really heavy and would definitely require regular monopod use. Once I figured out some filter issues, I was able to hone in on my preferences when using the lens, and have only seen extremely clear images and beautiful colors. I look forward to exploring what birds or astrophotography settings would look beautiful under a zoom like this!
I have used Sigma's 150-600mm sports lens f mount Nikon for about two weeks to shoot sports. Let me first say the build quality is impeccable, but with it comes a heavier lens. I don't mind the weight and a monopod really decreases that issue. The zoom ring is a bit tight and requires a 1/2 extra turn to get from 150 to 600. The sigmas focus speed is fairly descent, no where in the park of my Nikon 300 f2.8 but for youth sports it works well enough. Images are soft above 450 and the fstop change of 5-6.3 is a bit disappointing for a 2k plus lens. This is definitely an out door bright daylight lens! I use to own Sigmas 120-300 f2.8 which is stellar.
