Awesome lens! First time experiencing this advance type of equipment. Images weren’t as sharp in the beginning but after continuous usage I was able to get my settings correct. So if this is your first time using a lens like this don’t be discouraged, play with your settings (aperture and shutter) and the rest will be fun. If you’re shooting fast actioned sports learn your auto focus system (start around 1/1250 shutter speed) especially the more you zoom in it helps with the quality, at least in my beginner experience. Highly recommend a monopod at the very least.

Rented for a week long safari in Tanzania and really appreciated the extra reach. It’s a pretty heavy lens and took up almost 1/3 of my Peak Design 45L backpack but it is very well built. Just barely fits in a Peak Design small camera cube. Loved the heavy duty metal hood to protect the glass. Using it on a crop sensor body, I often just used my phone for anything fairly close to the vehicle but I was very glad to have it when things were far enough away.

Last night during my son's Friday night football game, I had it as wide open as I could, ISO as high as possible, and shutter speed where it needed to be to freeze the action. The pics are so grainy, and I'm so sad and dissapointed. In daylight, this lens is awesome. I am a Canon girl, through and through, and have all L glass except for my nifty 50 mm 1.4, which has served me perfectly well these last 15 years. Because I'm not in business anymore and am just shooting my sons and their teams for fun and foe the other parents, I didn't want to invest in L glass for this purpose. At the price of ~$1000, this is a great lens. I upgraded from a Canon 75-300 mm kit lens to this for bird photography. The difference in image quality is staggering. Firstly, you can get extremely close to wildlife. I have been getting clear and sharp images thanks to the optical stabilization. I bought this to replace the old Sigma 150-500mm for use with an EOS 90D.This lens is incredibly good. AF is very quick, this can be also adjusted with the USB hub which allows you to customise the lens in two settings. One of the things you can do is change the speed of focussing fast, which I use for wildlife, and smooth for video.I've attached an image of a Roe Deer. This was in woodland in early spring, handheld at 1/100, 543mm, f7. The image is never going to win any awards however you should be able to see that there are twigs in front of the subject, close to me, the camera and lens combination though hunting at times, dealt remarkably well with it. Only telephotos of extreme weight (and price) will outperform this lens for aperture, sharpness, and image quality. Surprisingly, fits well into a modest Manfrotto 'bee' backpack. Finally, the Sigma website demo videos, & others esp from USA on YouTube, were useful for initial set-up. I look fwd to 'mark II' from Sigma in a few years time (see 'cons')!Improvement Points: Very little could be improved w/o modifying the portability/weight/price. Personally I'd like an additional smaller-diameter screw thread in the fixed mounting base-plate to enable lighter consumer-style monopods to be screwed in. I also added a removable Manfrotto base plate (14. x 5.5 cm) to the lens' own base-plate, enabling me to gain a better balance when handholding the lens at max zoom extension & leaving it ready to attach in a few seconds when needed to a Manfrotto 701RC2 tripod head or type 393 monopod head mounted on a carbon tripod). The essential protective lens hood works well but is very heavy (metal) - I'd suggest that Sigma design/provide an optional lightweight alternative for owners to order up. Finally, the provided fabric lens objective cover fits a little loosely & ideally needs a tag or suchlike to reversibly connect it to the hood somehow to prevent the nice padded cover being lost in the field (a pain in the rain, although using a removable lens 'coat' helps of course too to prevent splashes on the objective).Obviously this is a 'dense' heavy lens that is easiest used when mounted on a mono/tripod, & this mass issue will deter some users comparing it with for example Canon's 100-400 L mark II zoom (latter better for street/busy environments and where weight/packaging is a deciding issue, e.g. on some flights).

Not super cheap but it confidently pairs well with my Lumix S1 + Sigma 150-600 combo. I also bought a K&F gimbal head and an Artcise 36mm ball head.This isn't to say you can't shoot handled, you absolutely can as the image stabe is great, but the weight of the set up can take a toll.Speaking of image stabilisation, there are two options though much like aforementioned Sigma 100-400 I find only option 01 to be of any use. Option 02 seems a bit more jittery to me. Fortunately the stabilisation is smooth and confident in 01 and all you'll likely going to need.There are loads of buttons on this thing but the important ones are the focus limiter and the new lock, tight and smooth switch. This switch can be a tough initially and I think could have benefited from a better design. The flipside is that even though it could have been designed better, I love the new tight mode, I absolutely love it. Being able to tension the lens so that it doesn't slip easily in and out but not tottally locking it is a life saver!I wont waffle on too much longer. The image quality is sensational, wide open it does suffer from some chromatic aberration when shooting towards the light, the sweet spot for sharpness is f/8 though I tend to shoot a little faster at f7.1.And two really cool things are the foot which incorporates an arca swiss plate, this thing can be set to different de-tents around the lens and locked into position. Then there is also the fact that being L-mount you can buy either the 2x or 1.4x teleconverters taking this up to 1200mm or even 1800mm by applying a 1.5x internal crop in the camera! Mind blowing!Finally the auto-focus performance is really great, faster than the Sigma 100-400 and with a bit of practice and tinkering in cam you will be getting great shots even on a Lumix cam. Don't change your whole system, just get this.
I have had this lens about a week, but so far am very happy with it. I took it out to shoot birds, and got a filter to shoot the sun, getting ready for the eclipse in April. I have a Canon 1DX MK III, and I was also using the Canon 1.4x ll extender. It integrated with it seamlessly. Focus is fast and accurate, colors are beautiful and I got a lot of very sharp images. Yes it is a beast, used a monopod most of the time, but able to do handheld for short periods without too much muscle fatigue. Takes a little getting used to rotating the zoom ring the opposite direction than what I was used to, but that's no problem. The build quality is rock solid. Looking forward to getting out there and shooting a lot more with this lens.

Thus, I've had broad experience with which to compare my Sigma 150-600 mm Sports lens for Canon EF.While I expected the Sigma 150-600 mm EF to be sturdy and sharp, I could not have imagined the quality of images it would produce, coupled with my Canon R5 and its EF lens adapter. Images from the Sigma compare favorably with ones produced by my Canon 600 mm f/4 L II, both without tele-conversion and with a 1.4 teleconverter. (The R5's ability to autofocus well above f/8 and its relatively low noise levels at high ISOs enable me to combine reasonably fast shutter speeds with the lens stopped down at least a stop for shooting birds and creatures. Reviewing my captures on the R5's super high definition LCD view finder, I can zoom them in as far as it will allow and still see incredibly detailed super-sharp images. (While the combination allows for stopping down, the lens produces incredible images even wide open.)No other zoom I have owned is capable of capturing such fine detail at 840mm on a full frame sensor of 45 megapixels. The only arguable negative about this Sigma is its weight, but its extreme durability, reliability, and weather resistance easily offset that factor. Zoomed in with the hood reversed it takes up much less space than a 600mm f/4; yet it can take the place of several telephoto primes while producing images comparable to such an assortment.For years I have felt that one must accept the bulk and weight of such primes to obtain the quality of images they produce. All of a sudden I am forced to revisit and consider revising that opinion. I really hit the jackpot when I received my Deal Zone special!
I've only had this (used) lens for a few days, so the experience is limited. But I must say, so far I am impressed. I've paired it with an R6 and ef/rf adapter. The focus seems reasonably fast and sharp and compares to my beloved 70-200 f/2.8. There doesn't seem to be too much color fringing (chromatic aberration) and I don't really notice the gradients that others have complained about. Even at f/6.3 the backgrounds are obliterated. I can't wait to take this out for big game.I will say, when others comment that this is a heavy beast, heed their words. This is nearly double the 70-200.
