This lens is a full blown weapon on a Canon full frame body using Canon's color science. The lense focus' decently fast and has been pretty accurate for me so far. The official convention on this lense is its less appealing bokeh, but honestly isn't not a night and day difference with Canon's L offerings and for the tiny difference in bokeh the lense is scalpel sharp. The downsides will sort of depend on the user. The lense is spectacular over all including for video but with using the on board mic it creates an audible hum that is distracting I would hate to discount this lense entirely because the video it produces is just plain spectacular but if it's anything beyond family videos or professional work I would strongly recommend recording audio on a separate ... Another thing to consider is that this lense is very heavy for a 50mm prime, it is not a nifty fifty and you won't be tossing this back and forth with an assistant (possible assault charge) all seriousness though it is every bit as big as the 24-70L and just as heavy, this may make it break it for some as this is good FL for street photography but if you're handholding this on a heavier pro body like a 1DX or 5D you'll probably want to wear a back brace.

Pros that have used this on their DSLR bodies know its an amazing lens. For beginners who complain its to heavy, I have nothing to say to you. I came from the canon 1DX mk III and Im happy to say the quality between mounts is still the same. Paired with the 62MP a7rIV this thing delivers!!! I highly recommend this lens. For those who would say to wait until they come out when the smaller compact version. Keep in mind, youre losing potential clients and building your portfolio, all for the reduction of .5-1lbs. Those of you who wants quality now so that you can build your business, this is the lens!

I had a multiple order and being overzealous to start playing with my toys, I neglected to adjust the camera settings to shoot raw and only shot large jpg for my initial trial on this lens. I chose it because other reviewers held it in high regard and I had done some research on comparisons with the canon 1.2 which I had stolen. I am glad I replaced it with this lens. I am a color freak and like to shoot at night with no flash. This will fit the bill easily. In my initial run with this lens and not my usual subject matter, I only shot jpgs and edited in camera raw. I am very happy with the results and raw will give me that much more and quality jpgs right out of the camera with this lens will definitely reduce my work load. This Len's clarity, sharpness and accuracy is extremely high. I use digital correction software that corrects lenses innate geometric barrel and vignette characteristics that have been mapped out for particular lens body combinations, accommodating changing values for focal length, focus distance, and apeture. This Len's doesn't need it. Typical base corrections for other lens show comprehensive changes in the image before and after correction (for the better). With this Len's there is hardly any discernable difference. It is a class act with fast silent focussing, and outstanding performance. There is a reason sigma will refit new camera body mounts for you for this Lens... once you have one, you will want to keep it for every camera body you own in the future. ... The only improvement could be if it was more weatherproofed for more resiliency to rain and harsh working life.
I've owned a few Sigma lens the 35mm 1.4 being my favorite lens for 3 years. I owned the Sony 50mm 1.8 which motor failed on me 2 months after buying new, and the Zeiss 50mm 1.4 and 55mm 1.8 where way overpriced in my opinion. This Sigma 50mm 1.4 art is fantastic, the focus is very fast and pin sharp every time which I demand when shooting most of my portraits at 1.4, video auto focus is great as well. Produces that creamy bokeh with satisfying cinematic color and razer sharp images. As far as the weight, it weights just a tiny bit more than the Zeiss 50mm 1.4, I see a lot of comments complaining of it being too heavy this is a professional grade lens built sturdy like a tank, it's not suppose to feel like a toy! Pull the trigger and buy it already!
Thought long and hard whether to buy this lens in preference to the canon EF 50mm 1.4mm which I already own. Performance wise, it knocks the canon out of the park, especially wide open at 1.4. Incredibly sharp.Normally on shoots, I swap lenses several times. Since attaching to my body, and over three shoots, it has yet to come off.Great for night work, when you really notice the extra couple of stops at f1.4
Very pleasant surprise of the Sigma 50 mm F1.4. Im a long time Canon CPS and has been using Canon Cameras and Lenses. Since retired for pro, I was looking for a fast 50mm for fun. Canon was considered, but I was not always satisfied with the 50mm L f1.2, but found the review on this sigma 50mm. Pulled trigger on Sigma 50 mm F1.4 Art lens. The built and construction of this lens from Japan, was nothing but total satisfaction. The quick focusing, Auto and manual focusing couple with the Canon ear R5 and R6 were amazing! Since then I pick up the Sigma 105 and 35, too.
All the magic of a prime lens. What a superb piece of kit. It is such a pleasure to own and inspires such confidence and willingness to experiment. I made this purchase principally for the purpose of astrophotography and already it has proven its worth. Whether manual or autofocus, in darkness or low light, the light gathering capacity and quality of image is remarkable. I had had some reservations about fitting a third-party lens to my Nikon D750, but I now have no hesitation in making Sigma my next lens choice. A beautifully designed and crafted item and a great complement to the Nikon camera body.
We have a photographer community that really like Sigma Art Lenses. After reading many articles, reviews and product comparisons, I decided to go with this lens with high expectations. After about a year of regular use, the lens is coming apart. I have a sony lens that I have used on its side and its still going solid. At first, the autofocus started failing, and the lens wasn't detected by the camera in the middle of photoshoots. Right now, the lens is all loose and I feel it will come apart in any second. Notice the wide gap the lens has in the middle, right beside the white text, also in the video. I take care extreme care of my equipment, keep it in a padded case, and I never lend it to anyone. Great lens for portraits and all around use, super fast aperture, the images are extremely sharp but not sure any more if this is enough to counter the extreme weight and size of the lens and the fact that it isn't made to last. I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND IT FOR PURCHASE, THINK TWICE ABOUT IT OR LOOK FOR OTHER ALTERNATIVES THAT WILL LAST LONGER, I EXPECT MY EQUIPMENT LAST FOR YEARS. IF YOU'RE OK FOR YOUR LENS TO LAST ABOUT A YEAR OR SO, GO FOR IT, BESIDE THE TREMENDOUS WEIGHT IN YOUR BAG IT WS A GREAT LENS TO WORK WITH.
The Art series of lenses from Sigma are making quite a splash for both their build quality and optical performance, and this 50 mm 1.4 is stellar in both areas. It is a weighty item, four ounces shy of 2 lb, but I honestly didn't notice that when I mounted it on my camera. The resolution/sharpness is astounding. Shooting my bookcases, hand-held at f8 at at just over 20 ft, I was able to read the title and author in the spine of a paperback. This lens is a beautiful piece of kit.
