Best-in-class design minimizing aberrations for images virtually free of streaking and warping. The Sigma 24mm 1.4 DG HSM Art is a state of the art wide-angle prime lens designed for Full Frame cameras but will work with APS-C sensors as well. Using over 50 years of lens making experience, particularly the knowledge gained from the 35mm 1.4 Art and the 50mm 1.4 Art, the 24mm 1.4 Art is aimed at being the new standard for fast aperture wide angle prime lenses. The latest optical design allows for the utmost in image quality with careful attention paid to edge to edge performance. An optimized power layout places the aspherical lens elements in the rear and adjusts the incidence angle of light source allowing for great performance wide open. Using premium FLD & SLD glass elements, the lens brings aberrations and distortion to a minimum, an issue many wide-angle lenses suffer from. With class leading performance, this lens is ideal for wedding photography, landscape photography, videography, astrophotography, lowlight/indoor photography and event photography. As with all Global Vision lines, the 24mm will be tested using the proprietary “A1” measuring system ensuring the highest standard of operation. The Sigma 24mm Art is compatible with the USB dock to update and customize and is also compatible with the Mount Conversion Service. A staple procedure for the Global Vision lines, every lens will be tested using the proprietary “A1” measuring system.

I didn't know what to expect when buying this lens, and honestly debated heavily back and forth before deciding to purchase at all after reading about autofocus issues with the Sigma Art lenses. So far my copy of the 24mm had exhibited none of these issues at all; it required a small AF fine tune correction in my camera body, and has been dead-on after that. Not quite as fast AF as my native Nikon lenses, but more than snappy enough for most uses (including many/most sports).Lens is fairly heavy, and a little larger than I expected, but that comes with the territory of a wide-angle lens with such a large aperture. Because of the weight, the balance of my camera becomes a bit front-heavy, but this will vary widely depending on the camera body being used. And ... MoreI didn't know what to expect when buying this lens, and honestly debated heavily back and forth before deciding to purchase at all after reading about autofocus issues with the Sigma Art lenses. I still can't quite believe it, but this might be the sharpest lens I've owned, and I've owned quite a few. So sharp it almost feels like it it's increased the resolution of my sensor, even out to the corners. Get your hands on some sample photos if you can, probably have to see it to believe it.My only real negative point so far is the lack of weather resistance, and I suppose the size/weight. If I really had to nitpick, the AF/MF switch is fairly stiff. Focus ring is very, very nicely dampened, though; manual focus is great.Highly recommended overall.

You feel the quality the moment you first hold it. Once attached to the camera body, the lens takes control and delivers with all it has to offer. Since the release of this lens Sigma has also released a 20mm f/1.4, but it is not as sharp AND it doesn't accept threaded filters. I use polarizer, neutral-density, and graduated neutral density filters all the time, so this was a must for me. I will say that this lens has truly outperformed its expectations and it's my main, go to lens. First thing first: it's incredibly sharp. Even at f/1.4, the sharpness is very impressive. It's barely a noticeable difference from being stopped down. I have spent many nights photographing the Milky Way with this lens and it is amazing every time. Since you can shoot at f/1.4, you can get excellent Milky Way shots at ISO 1600 or lower, which is fantastic because it means barely any noise. Even with a lens at f/2.8, you'd have to shoot at ISO 6400 to get the equivalent light in, assuming your shutter speed is the same. That's a huge difference. Regarding people's concerns about weather sealing on the Canon and no weather sealing on the Sigma: I honestly believe that even though Sigma doesn't advertise it as such, this lens is very well sealed. I have used it in the rain many times, including in a steady Oregon rain for hours, and never had even the slightest issue. Of course, you want to keep it as dry as you possibly can just in case, but this lens is tough. It's not going to let any water in for awhile. I've attached a couple of images of the Milky Way below, taken with this lens and my Canon 6D at 24mm, f/1.4, ISO 2500, 15 second exposure. Both images are completely unedited and the second image is a 100% crop so you can see how sharp it is, even at ISO 2500.

Good WA Lens for Astrophotography, with some caveats

I conducted some star tests with this lens mounted on My Canon EOS 6D from my heavily light-polluted location in Pittsburgh. First impression is that the lens is heavy, with a good quality, solid mechanical build. Manual focus is smooth. Focus on bright stars is easy, due to its bright max aperture.Exposures taken at max aperture, however, show obvious tangential and sagittal astigmatism, as well as chromatic aberrations around the edges of the 3:2 frame. Aberrations are not noticeably reduced until the aperture is stopped to f/2. Beginning at f/2, sagittal astigmatism is gradually reduced and is entirely eliminated at f/2.8. Introducing a CLS-style clip-in filter ahead of the camera's sensor results in severe tangential astigmatism and slight chromatic aberration, and is not completely eliminated at f/2.8. So, for a clean image, clip-in filters should not be used with this lens. Still, under a dark sky and without a clip-in filter installed, this lens should perform at a high level, and is a good investment for the price.

When I first received this lens the end of Nov. 2017 I was originally very happy with the results. The pictures were sharp, but only if manually focusing. I was ok with that, but this week I was taking waterfall pictures in a heavy drizzle and the waterfall mist coming at me and I started getting haze in my pictures. The next day I noticed while cleaning the lens that the fog haze was inside the lens. After just getting off the phone with Sigma, I was informed that it MIGHT dry out by leaving it in the sun for a while and if it didnt go away it would have to be sent in. I ask why it would be considered physical damage when it was a problem with THEIR ability to seal it for mist and light moisture. I then informed him that none of my NIKON lenses had EVER had that problem even when being in a downpour. If you are only going to use it for photography in non humid dry climate it will probably serve you well but never let a raindrop hit it. Looking back I would have bought the NIKON

Make your subject jump off the photo.

I watch videos and read reviews to help me decide on purchases. Sigma and the Art Series lenses really have their act together. For many years I only used normal and telephoto lenses. One day I got my hands on a wide angle and got hooked.Stepping into digital, researched wide angles for the one that gives the most 'bang for the buck'. I feel I found it. Large aperture, sharp, quick to focus, bokeh (on a wide angle!). This lens has it all.

A fantastic alternative to the pricey Canon L 24mm prime. Great build quality, great image quality. Shooting full frame, this is the perfect whole-room lens without stretching out the people at the edges of the frame too much. Great for wedding receptions when you want to be right in the middle of the dance floor!

After lots of research, I got this lens about 3 months ago. Now I'm having a blast with it.I also love taking portraits. Love sharp object with blur background. I have the 50 1.4. It's a great lens, but often time, it's not wide enough when 2-3 people ran into the frame. Just a note, I took a lot of people gathering events, street photos, as well as weddings. I was looking into the 35 1.4, of which, many say it's a good compromise; not too wide but not too narrow. But personally, I don't like the 35mm's field of view. But personally, I don't like the 35mm's field of view. Actually I was looking for something in the range of 28mm, (similar to the iPhone) which is great for travel, too. At the time, the Sigma 28mm 1.4 just came out. The price range was beyond my reach. I went with this lens. No regret! It has even since attached on my camera 90% of the time. It's much more compact than my Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 Sharp sharp, has much better bokeh. Color rendition is great, not of the old days Sigma. My D750 with this lens attached, fits in a small bag, slip in my backpack easily. Cover most action in several events, while also taking great portraits. Just need to get closer and keep telling your subject, don't be afraid. There are people photos taken by this lens on flickr. Check them out!I would recommend this lens to a friend.

Very Happy

Was struggling on deciding which lens to purchase. Between a 20mm, 24-35mm and a 24mm for my landscape photography. After talking with B&H they helped me make the best choice lens to purchase for the type of photography I wanted to shoot. I could never be more happier with my choice. I have always gotten great advice and great products from B&H. I will continue to purchase products from B&H cause they never try to up sell you they only sell you what you need.

Worth it!

Based on my research of reviews of this lens, I was hoping it's as good as they say. This has been glued to my A7R III since received last week and it does not disappoint! I'm very happy with how quickly it autofocuses using animal eye autofocus even in low light indoor settings. That was my biggest concern. It's very sharp as expected from Sigma, the size and weight is surprisingly a fantastic balance on an A7R III. The construction is also what you'd expect from Sigma as is the focus ring. So far, I've yet to identify any weaknesses of the lens. I imagine the Sony GM 24 1.4 is possibly sharper and of course easier to handle but no way could I justify the near $600 additional cost. I imagine this lens will be part of Sigma's fast prime lens lineup for many years to ... MoreBased on my research of reviews of this lens, I was hoping it's as good as they say.
