Sigma 56mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens - Fujifilm X-Mount
Smooth AF ideal for video shooting The combination of optical design for video AF and use of the stepping motor enables smooth and quiet autofocus. The lens is also compatible with the Sony E-mount Fast Hybrid AF, achieving precise AF tracking. By using the face recognition or eye AF functions of cameras, focus will continuously be on the face or the eyes even if the subject moves during the shot. High-precision, rugged brass bayonet mount The brass mount combines high precision with rugged construction. Its rugged surface and enhanced strength contribute to the exceptional durability of the lens. Mount with dust- and splash-proof construction The mount features a unique sealing to make the lens an excellent choice in a wide variety of conditions. Impressively compact construction with image quality rivaling SIGMA's Art line. To achieve such a compact construction, lens design is considered based on the strengths of the camera body function to correct peripheral light amount and distortion. In addition, axial color aberration, which is difficult to eliminate by image processing, is corrected by incorporating an SLD glass element. Overall, a compactness and lightweight construction combined with superb image quality is achieved.

I use the Lumix G9 and have a wide variety of lenses in my collection. After hearing about Sigma, I decided to try out their products. I purchased the 16mm M4/3 lens. This lens does not disappoint. The pictures that come out of this lens are very sharp. I have also used this lens at night and the pictures always came out very nicely. The aperture goes all the way to a bright F1.4.The lens is has a premium feel to it. The focusing ring is very smooth and the materials are very nice to the touch. For the price of only $399.99, this is a steal.

This has quickly become a favorite lens of mine. It does well in portraits with the fast aperture allowing for smooth and pleasant bokeh with good subject isolation. It's a sharp lens throughout the whole frame at higher apertures and is still quite good wide open. The build quality is excellent and is a mix of metal and high quality plastics and rubber and maintains a premium feel overall. The focus ring is dampened well and turns smoothly. The lack of an aperture ring did not bother me at all, which I thought it might. Readjusting to using the front dial was very easy and is now my preferred way to shoot. The lens hood is also particularly good and well made it's easy to attach and isn't made of brittle cheap plastics like some other lens hoods I've used.

I bought this lens by mistake thinking it was a full frame lens. I own the Sony 20mm f/1.8 and I tried to use it inside my car with my Sony A7IV and it was just not quite wide enough. So, I found this lens and I thought 16mm would be perfectly wide to shoot inside my car. However, when I received it, I noticed it is an APS-C lens (my bad) and my first thought was to return it. But, I decided to at least try it to see how bad the vignetting was going to be. First, I need to change a setting on my A7IV called 'APS-C S35 Shooting' from Auto to Off. Then, the camera will disable the auto cropping it automatically applies to APS-C lenses. And I tried it and the vignetting is not that bad and it works for my particular situation. There's vignetting only on the corners and the darkness blends well with my frame (inside my car). Check the still frame I am attaching, so you can see what I mean. Then, the lens is super sharp, and the auto focus works essentially like a native Sony lens on a Sony body. Consequently, I am keeping the Sigma 16mm to make these videos inside my car. And the price is quite inexpensive for such a wonderful lens. I highly recommend you to buy it or at least try it. You can always return it if it doesn't work for your particular situation. Cheers!

This lens is quite sharp, focus is fast, weight is to be expected on a f/1.4 wide angle. And the price is a steal.I have a long (40+) year history with Sigma products and one thing that hasn't gotten much better is their quality control and consistency. The first one of these lenses I got could not focus on anything. It thought it was in focus, but not even close. The second lens nailed focus. It's a tiny bit less sharp in one corner, but only on close examination. It's worth noting I'm using a m43 camera; on a APS camera, a soft corner would be more noticeable since you're using more of the image circle on the larger APS sensor. All in all, I recommend this lens, but do check yours. It's Sigma, not Zeiss, so trust but verify.
I am using this lens on a Sony FX30 as well as my older Sony Fs7, and just finished a micro-budget feature, where it came in handy again and again. The famous Sony autofocus works on this lens just as a native Sony glass would.Of course a 50mm 1.4 lens is a must for interviews with APS cameras, but it also adds a lovely look to a lot of different frames. The few extra mms in this 56mm lens feels very welcome. It is small and light, with a solid construction feeling. It would have been nice if all the front threads were the same on the famous Sigma Trio, but I have adapter rings on all my lenses that mate with my Tilta matte box so they are quickly interchangeable. All in all, very happy.
I vacillated over jumping into the Olympus 45 f1.2 Pro lens at $1400. I came upon some reviews and just had to give this Sigma a try. I'd read Sigma had essentially come up with this lens formula wise, to emulate their Bokeh Master 105 f1.4 Art for FF but wanted this 56mm for my new OM-1. I just had to give it a try for a mere $404.00. The build quality is superb and solid. The hood is a higher quality then most lenses out there in general. This lens proved to be sharp wide open across the frame, but even better, without any effort can be used in a portrait application to provide some of the sweetest bokeh money can buy. Your subjects face can be in focus but as it leaves their body it just melts away behind them so nicely. This lens can easily compete with lenses ... MoreI vacillated over jumping into the Olympus 45 f1.2 Pro lens at $1400. I came upon some reviews and just had to give this Sigma a try. NO compromises either. Focus is instant and accurate. This on a OM-1 so I can't speak to all other formats nor models. If you have a OM-1 you can save yourself serious $$ going with this instead of a 45 f1.2 Pro lens.
I was looking for a fast lens that would allow me to shoot semi-spontanious portraits of people at our social organization. I was trying to capture images of people expressing true joy. I wanted to avoid using a flash, which usually causes irritation. I started by joking with them and telling them about the person who hated to have their picture taken, and how they took the chance. That they liked the picture and posted it as their Facebook profile image. This has been working so well that people are asking for photo's. Also I tell them that I will not post it anywhere without their permission. The camera is an Olympus OM-D E-M1 MkII, it has a wonderful auto focus, and stabilization. I can shoot short bursts while I am joking around with them, then select later. ... MoreI was looking for a fast lens that would allow me to shoot semi-spontanious portraits of people at our social organization. I can shoot short bursts while I am joking around with them, then select later. 56mm gets me in their face without putting the camera in their face. The speed, pleasant bokeh, natural color, and apparent depth of this combination really helps; It seems to enhance the beautiful energy of someone being really happy. This is my first fast Lens, so I can not compare it to anything except that of not having a fast lens. I would have a much harder time being spontaneous with a slower setup. This lens is great! The only thing I don't really like is the tactile inconsistency of focus by wire. But most of the time I am enjoying the best auto--focus I have ever experienced, and seldom even use the manual focus.
This is one of the sharpest, well built lenses you can buy. This is my go to lens. I use this for Broll and portraits. You pair it with the 16mm and you can create some amazing content. I recommend this lens to EVERYONE that wants a fast high quality prime lens. Works great with my GH5 and BMPCC4k. You can get nice and close for macro type shots and the AF is pretty snappy with the DFD although it does not do as good as my Panasonic native lenses. It can hunt and the IOS can give it some funny movement sometimes shooting at 1.4 but if you back it down it works just fine. The lens is sharp from edge to edge in all f stops. It is sharper than my Voitlander 42.5 f0.95 and I use this lens over it all the time. This is also my preferred lens for product and food photography.
This turned out to be a terrific lens and a steal at the price. It's very sharp, especially for a wide angle, and the weight is manageable for m43. But...it's still a Sigma lens, and as anyone who has been involved with photography for more than 5 years will tell you, consistency has not been Sigma's strong suite (and that's why reviews, both good and bad, can be accurate.)The first lens I got did not come anywhere close to focusing accurately. Manual focusing showed the lens to be very good. I figured, that's normal Sigma Q.C., and hoped lens #2 would be better. The second lens focused perfectly, even at f/1.4. It's almost as sharp as my macros and the Panasonic 15mm, so we're talking seriously sharp. An added bonus for m43 users is that these lenses are designed ... MoreThis turned out to be a terrific lens and a steal at the price. Out of focus areas look pretty good too, for a wide angle, but I don't know anything about video so I can't comment on whether this lens is a good choice for that.
I have an XT3 and XT-20 and purchased the Sigma 56 1.4 about 2 weeks ago. Other than a missing aperture ring and a 1/2 stop, for half the cost of the Fuji 56mm 1.2, the Sigma 56 1.4 will give it a run for your money. I had the original Fuji 56 1.2 and sold it a year ago. For my use, the Sigma is a better and more fun lens. It is sharper than the Fuji, faster focus, smaller, and lighter. The color rendering and contrast are about the same with way less purple fringing when using wide open. An aperture ring would have been nice but I don't really miss it. This is a keeper. Thank you B&H for getting this lens out to me so quickly.
