18 month life + poor support from Singer

Bought my HD4452 in March of 2021. Worked great for a while. This machine has less than 15 hours on it, but quit functioning properly; skipped stitches, birds nest on bottom of stitch, etc. I'm using Singer needles, thread and bobbins. The tension is set properly. The bobbin works as it should, the needle doesn't always pick up the thread. Seems like timing, right? nope, I had to remove the plate to clear the birds nest and observed the "hook". Timing was spot on and picks up the thread without the plate, but mostly won't with the plate back on. OK, a product may have an issue, it happens, but here's what I discovered: The warranty only covers "mechanical" for 90 days. OK, a product may have an issue, it happens, but here's what I discovered: The warranty only covers "mechanical" for 90 days. Singers web site shows a repair/warranty center in Southern California "Singer Sewing Center of Orange County", that relocated, dropped Singer from it's name, and no longer sells or advertises warranty services for Singer products. Singer Customer Care provided this response: "Robert, They are a small location and if everyone is with customers or working on machines, they do not get to the phones. Sometimes the voice mail gets full and you will get some unusual recording that it is no longer a working number. The location is still one of our warranty centers. I would encourage you to keep trying. They are closed on Mondays. I am sorry for the inconvenience you have experienced. You will need to have your purchase receipt and fill out the attached form when taking your machine to be repaired. Thank you for choosing Singer." So keep trying a location that moved, dropped Singer from their name, stopped selling or advertising Singer products and services, and sells competitor products, and is too small or busy to help you anyway? Really? Seems Singer is headed the way of Montgomery Wards, Sears, and a host of other companies no longer in business. Once the standard for sewing, my experience is the stanard of how NOT to provide Customer Care.

I was excited when I first got this machine. It had all the features I wanted for now and it was supposed to handle most anything. It did great sewing straight and zigzag stitches on my lightweight to medium fabric. Awesome! But then came doing a simple button hole. I’m not new to button holes, so no worries there, right? Wrong. This machine couldn’t get through one of them without wanting to stop at some point in the process and just stitch in one place, the first button while it just made a big mess, and almost ruin my fabric. The only way I could get through a button hole was to respond as quickly as possible as soon as it started stitching in place and help it along until it decided to go again. They look like crap if you look up close but thankfully the button ... MoreI was excited when I first got this machine. They look like crap if you look up close but thankfully the button will cover most of them. I will say that it seemed in each instance there would be a light faint clicking noise just before it would do this. I thought it might just be the whole button foot mechanism that was the issue. But then came sewing on a medium weight cotton fabric. Just a simple straight stitch, forward and back to start, only three layers. There would be a clicking noise in the bobbin case abs it would immediately jam up. No matter how many times I rethreaded the machine, double check the threading to make sure it was freely able to move, rechecked the bobbin and bobbin area for anything amiss. At one point instead of a clicking noise it just made a slamming sound similar to when a needle hits a straight pin and breaks, except there was no straight pin for it to hit. Needless to say, everything has come to a stop and customer service acknowledged there was an issue. Transferred me to the a different department so I could return the machine where I was out on hold for an incredibly long time only for her to pick up again and ask me what I needed! She realized it was me and then said everyone’s busy because of the holidays and I can just go on their website and make the request. Did that two days ago. Was supposed to receive a return label within 24 hours but did not, so requested again and took a snapshot of the request. Still waiting for a return label. I am very disappointed now, not only with the machine and the lack of quality control from the factory, but now also with the customer service. I hope I’m not given the run around.

I first bought the 44S thinking it would fill the bill, so to speak, with the walking foot. Unfortunately it failed due to lack of power. SO I bought the 4452 as it was advertised as HD with a more powerful motor. Nothing could have been further from the truth, they are both identical. Walking foot on I decided to make a tote bag as per a Singer project pattern. The tote bag has, obviously, exterior fabric plus the liner. This means when sewing the top of the bag there are 2 hidden seams to climb over. This means when sewing the top of the bag there are 2 hidden seams to climb over. First the presser foot doesn't go high enough to place the goods under it without having to disengage the feed dogs and then raising them again. When the walking foot comes to the seams it just stalls out and hums away. With foot on the pedal, machine humming I had to reach behind, grab the fabric and help it climb over the seams. Problem is once it's over the hump with motor straining it then races forward kind of out of control until you release the pedal control. I guess I am spoiled as my Cobra 4 industrial machine with a servo motor handles flawlessly BUT it has trouble with lighter materials tension wise. I sewed the handles onto the bag with the Cobra as the 4452 would be useless. I'm trying to get out of the holster, belt, leather brief cases due to the price of leather (increased about 50%) and stick to garments, tote bags and lighter materials. I have attached a photo of my Singer tote bag project. Looks like I will have to invest in a Juki or Reliable sewing machine to get the results I want. Anyone want to buy 2 sewing machines? I also attached a photo of my Cobra 4.

Great machine without all the hoopla. A Work Horse!
30 January 2023

So My Mom's 50+ year old Singer sewing machine finally broke and can't be fixed. She is devastated! The sewing repairman (3rd generation) gave her this machine info as a great replacement. Mom doesn't want all the electronic and digital stuff that breaks down so easily. So I looked around and found this on sale with the seller. It came with the extended sewing table for those bigger, longer, heavier items too. All the needed pieces were included in the purchase: foot petal, 4 bobbins, 8 regular needles, 2 specialty needles, 4-5 different presser feet, 2 spool holders, 1 spool stick, combo brush/pick tool, even fabric feeder, maybe a few little things more. Full manual is online; but comes with a VERY BRIEF "Get Started Paper". The innards of the machine are all ... MoreSo My Mom's 50+ year old Singer sewing machine finally broke and can't be fixed. FYI: If you want the needle position in the center, the stitch width has to be on zero first. That's not in the directions or manual anywhere.

I am thoroughly impressed with this sewing machine. The SINGER HD6360M Mechanical Heavy Duty Sewing Machine is beyond amazing. I have always loved the singer brand. Here lately with needing to sew things, this has come in very handy. I love this machine that handles jeans with little effort. I can sew jeans in less time now that I have this machine. It makes hemming a lot quicker and most definitely easier. I love the small connecting table it has. That helps with so many projects. This sewing machine is designed with a parent/ seamstress in mind. This gives you multiple options for your sewing needs. I kid you not you can do just about anything with this sewing machine. This brand and this machine is every part amazing. The machine is not extremely bulky. It is easy to move around. For what it does, I feel it is rather compact. But, that doesn't mean it isn't efficient. I highly recommend this to anyone needing a sewing machine. Especially for those heavier jobs. You will not regret this machine one bit.

Love this sewing machine!

I was so excited about this sewing machine. I sew woven wool pillowcases so I needed a sewing machine that could withstand the heavy fabric. The extension table is the best thing ever. I am not sure how I’ve gone this long without having one! Set up was so easy and the instructions were well written and easy to understand. It ran nicely, didn’t give off any weird burnt smells like I’ve read from other users and it withstood the wool and several cotton pieces at once. Also it nicely sews just a strip of cotton fabric too. I don’t use all of the attachments it comes with but glad they are made available. If I had one thing to complain about it would be the cover they provide. But it obviously is just a dust cover and not meant to protect the machine itself. NOT REFURBISHED

This refurbished Singer 44S was purchased to be shipped to a friend in another state. It arrived quickly in two days...but without needed accessories for it to even sew! It's online description did not state what accessories it included, but the photos on the left side of the webpage show a machine with a buttonhole foot, an all purpose/zig zag foot and the large thread spool cap. It arrived without any of those and also did not have its small spool cap, nor the button sewing on foot, and not the zipper foot either. If you know about sewing machines, you know all those are needed or the machine can't sew. Other small items were also missing, such as a pack of needles and a lint brush, etc. IMHO those are of little concern. The missing accesories could be a one off mistake, but the machine does not even seem refurbished! Even though cosmetically OK, the machine has a straight stitch foot on it and the stitch width was set as wide as it could be set. The tension dial was set to 7. Even a sewist would not set up a machine that way, let alone a tech refurbishing a sewing machine. No way. Strangely, the 44S accessory package does not even have a straight stitch foot as part of its package, so a tech refurbishing the sewing machine would not have left that on there instead of putting on a general purpose/zig zag foot it's supposed to have on it. This is an AS IS machine and not a refurbished one. My friend can't test sew with it to know if it even sews well without the needed accessories. The word accessories sound like these items are superfluous, but they are actually imperative to sewing with the machine. It could have exchanged with this machine picked up by FedEx and another one sent...but the question to online customer service was if this refurbished machine sold and shipped by Walmart is supposed to include accessories or not...since it's not verbally described in its webpage online. The very nice customer service reps could not assure that the machine is to have accessories or not. I've bought several refurbished sewing machines in years past and they were always well set up with everything in their accessories package as offered when new...but that was well explained in their webpages. Online customer gave me the address and phone number to the distribution center and I will certainly contact them tomorrow. Thank you for reading this long review. Hope it helps someone else from an unpleasant surprise.

Powerful machine, great for jeans!
27 September 2022

I'll be honest, I'm a novice at sewing, but I'm also needing to hem or fix jeans, reattach buttons, fix tears in clothes and jackets all the time. I also sometimes sew logo patches on to shirts and jackets. I finally made the decision to invest in a SINGER and I decided to go with the heavy duty one and do not regret it! My husband is a mechanic and is hard on clothes and in some of the bigger tears or rips, we've just thrown jeans away, so I'm so excited to save more pairs of jeans and not feel so wasteful. While a novice, I have some very experienced people in my life that have helped me get this set up and gave me a refresher on how to use. They were really impressed with the machine and love that it came with the extension table - especially when you're working ... MoreI'll be honest, I'm a novice at sewing, but I'm also needing to hem or fix jeans, reattach buttons, fix tears in clothes and jackets all the time. They were really impressed with the machine and love that it came with the extension table - especially when you're working with jeans, the extra space is great! They also mentioned that it's got a great starter kit with all of the accessories, especially with the extra needles and seam ripper. The speed is impressive and it effortlessly sews up jeans and other heavy duty materials. It feeds smoothly (I'm still getting used to the foot peddle) but I haven't had any problems so far!

Seems to be great
28 September 2022

Not much time to use before review was due. My project was a bag made from upholstery fabric with a cotton liner. Machine sewed great on both fabrics. Used the provided Jeans needle for the heavy fabric. Very little problems going through several layers. It would have been helpful if the presser foot could have higher clearance by as I tried to feed thick seams under to begin project. Also the speed was fine sewing long straight seams but would have been helpful if I could have set it to a slower speed working around circle edges. The foot peddle a little stiff so more pressure resulted in a fast speed. Light weight. Easy to move to table and attachable table great for sewing larger pieces together. The removable base producing a narrow swing arms worked great when sewing around the circular areas of bag. Liked the movable needle position. I could use the wide foot to help hold seams together yet move needle to the right to produce the 1/4 seam I wanted. I also used the overcast foot on my edges for smooth edge. I have difficulty seeing small things so the self threaded is perfect for my eye Sight. The only reason I rated this a 4 instead of a 5 was the height of presser foot clearance making it difficult to get thick seams started. I usually do quilt piecing so it will have no problems with those projects. Easy to start sewing right out of the box bit i would really like to use this mkre to gibe a better review m

Very Misleading use of "Heavy Duty"
9 October 2022

Two of these 4452 machines broke on me in less than the first two months of use. I was simply sewing hook and loop material on to polyester strap webbing. There is actually nothing heavy duty about sewing these types of materials except the are a little thick. I chose to use a #18 leather needle because that type of needle has a cutting top which would make it easier on the machine. They still broke dispute the extra precautions I took to protect the machines. I was even hand turning the stitches over strap layers and using the Singer so called walking foot. Their walking foot is not a walking foot. Using the term walking foot to describe this foot is simply misleading as well as the term "Heavy Duty". At best, this machine should be described as robust home sewing ... MoreTwo of these 4452 machines broke on me in less than the first two months of use.
