I dig my Star Adventurer, but framing was not so easy on deep sky objects, so I got the new GTi with goto. It's so much easier using this mount and the tripod that comes with the kit is great. It's super light but sturdy. I just wanted a something that could handle my Rokinon 135mm lens and astro camera, but I thought I'd test the setup with my Z61 filterwheel, autofocuser and camera. The results were nice.Attached is a test I got with the Z61 fully loaded on the GTi.

Nice little system! Paired it with a FMA180 and ASI533 camera. Pretty good tracking and easy to set up. Only problem I have is balancing such a light load as clutches are pretty tight.

I bought the Star Adventurer GTi specifically for easy and quick setup for use at home but also for travel to dark sky sights. For that use I am not disappointed! It is plenty light enough to keep set up and carry outside in a couple minutes. I leave the weights on till I get it outside and then slide them off to polar align. That is an easy task thanks to the installed polar scope. A gardening pad helps your knees!I have mine paired with a 72mm refractor, ASIAIR, guide scope and camera. I would guess I am approaching the 11 pound load limit that is suggested by Skywatcher but the mount carries it very well as long as it is carefully balanced. I did have to buy a longer dovetail bar to be able to mount the loaded OTA far enough forward to balance in ... MoreI bought the Star Adventurer GTi specifically for easy and quick setup for use at home but also for travel to dark sky sights. The clamp knob squeezes it together and tensions the RA clutch. There is no need to tighten the knob more than is necessary to add enough friction to keep the RA axis from turning by easy pressure on the end of the counterweight shaft. As long as the rig is carefully balanced this should do. If the RA clutch knob is overtightened it might be possible to break the internal clamp. I also found that if the clutch clamp knob is too tight it can introduce a sort-of torque backlash that will make the RA axis "snap back" against the direction you select when making fine adjustments using the App.One task you will need to do is center the polar scope crosshairs with the RA axis. This is best done by picking a spot on a nearby shed or fence and then using an Allen wrench to tweak three adjustment screws till there is little or no wobble detected when the mount is rotated in RA. It isn't a difficult process but is tedious and something that should be adjusted properly from the factory. The mount comes with a battery box and is intended to be run off AA batteries for max portability. But it does come with a 12V power jack too. Unfortunately Skywatcher chose not to ship an AC adapter with the mount and that is something they really should include.I tried the mount out first using the Synscan App on my Ipad for completely wireless control. It works very well! Range is decent pairing the Ipad and mount WIFI directly. The App is pretty intuitive and easy to use. If operating from your own backyard, try setting up the App for Station Mode. This is the best way to go, for as long as the mounts WIFI can talk to your network you will have nearly complete freedom of where to be inside or outside to control the mount with your Ipad!I have been able to get 30 second sub exposures with no trailing unguided. Using an auto-guide camera I can get 2 minute subs with no trailing. I am very happy with that.I have been controlling the mount with an ASIAIR and their App for the convenience of 100% mount and camera control. Mount control and guiding is via USB and works well. One thing I noticed is that after using the ASIAIR to control the mount, the mount will not just start right up and work properly just using the Synscan App. If this happens, it is only necessary to turn on the mount and let it run an hour with no attempt to connect via the Sysnscan App and it will reset itself. Some setups may need to be performed over again but there doesn't appear to be any harm. The Skywatcher Star Adventurer GTi is just a great little Go-To camera tracker and telescope mount and I would recommend anyone looking for portability and easy setup to consider one.

I wanted to like this mount; I really did. But the truth is that this is the most disappointing gear purchases that I've made.It might be fine if all you wish to do is simple goto operations and unguided visual work, or unguided astrophotography with exposures < 60 seconds (with ~400mm optic). But trying to use the Synscan App Driver to get the SA GTi connected with PHD2 and APT for guided astrophotography has been nothing more than a repetitious exercise in frustration. The mount intermittently disconnects whether using Wi-Fi or USB. And worse, it seems that running the Synscan App Driver causes the guide camera to disconnect unexpectedly from PHD2 too. I can't say with 100% certainty that the Syncan App Driver is the culprit, but I've never experienced the guide ... MoreI wanted to like this mount; I really did. And worse, it seems that running the Synscan App Driver causes the guide camera to disconnect unexpectedly from PHD2 too. I can't say with 100% certainty that the Syncan App Driver is the culprit, but I've never experienced the guide camera disconnecting unless the Syncan App Driver was also running in the background. Every time I think I have it working satisfactorily, I get out under the stars and the trouble starts. I get everything working at home, but then I spend the first hour or two of my (limited) observing time connecting, disconnecting, swearing, stopping and restarting SynScan Pro, APT and PHD2, swearing some more, upgrading software, reverting software to previous the version, swearing again, stopping to enjoy a bourbon and a cigar to settle myself, rebooting the laptop, swapping cables and ports, only to give up in frustration and go home. Oh well, at least the bourbon and cigar were enjoyable. On the couple of occasions that I was able to get all the ducks in a row for a while, I found that the RA tracking is pretty darned good, but the Dec tracking is simply horrid. I may just need to tweak polar alignment and dial in PHD2 parameters, but I've never been able to get everything working long enough to do it!Mechanically, the SA GTi seems well made enough with minimal backlash and tracking that's plenty acceptable for visual work or short unguided exposures. Unguided exposures of 60 seconds with a 70mm/f6 APO show very little or no trailing. That's not bad at all for unguided astrophotography. The tripod on the other hand is rather disappointing. Even with all the hardware tightened as much as I dare, there's a LOT of sloppy movement between the tripod hub and the legs. When I have the time, I'll try fashioning some shims from brass sheet or UHMWPE plastic. If I were still in Agena Astro's return window, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to ship it back. But now I appear to be stuck with it and will have to find some solutions or use it as a coat rack. All in all, I'd give the SA GTi itself a solid B grade, the tripod a C- and the software a big fat F. Sadly I can’t recommend this set up to anyone.
Excellent, quality product, and exceeds my expectations.
This is an excellent choice for portability. You use it either with a camera and a lense for astro nightscape and deep space pictures or with a small astro dedicated rig. Guiding performance was also good. I waited 11 months to mine and I couldn't been happier.
Great little mount. Very portable I was looking for a light weight travel go-to mount.. Performs very well 5 minute exposures unguided excellent little mount. Thanks to Agena for the help and fast shipping
I brought this mount for solar eclipse. Though I did not perfectly align the polar star in the day, I was still able to track the sun with only a few times of adjustments during the 3 hours. The aluminum tripod is 2-section, which is kind of huge and you need at least 28 check luggage. But on the other hand, 2-section provides reliable stability given the aluminum material. If you are looking for something smaller for packaging, you may need a 3rd-party 3-section carbon tripod. The polar scope cover is the only thing I am unhappy with. It is not attached tight, and dropped many times. Especially when you are installing the battery case, it drops for 100%. One foot of my polar scope cover was cracked, and then it is retired.
This is my first purchase through Adorama and I couldn't be happier with their service and the Sky-Watcher Adventurer GTI tracker. I am new to astrophotography with a lot to learn and it's nice to know with this purchase I am off to a great start. It shipped quickly and arrived in great condition and after a month of use, I have no regrets. Just starting, I could have chosen the base-level Sky-Watcher 2i, but if you're on the fence this is the model you want!
solid mount and tracker, mobile app is a bit buggy, losses calibration it loses connection since that data isn't on the tracker. one star alignment is accurate enough for low magnification.
