Sony - 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Power Zoom E-Mount Standard Zoom Lens - Black
Its zoom range is equivalent to 27-300mm in the 35mm format and therefore offers everything from true wide-angle to super-telephoto capabilities. This versatility allows you to shoot groups, interiors and expansive landscapes and also zoom in for portraiture and to bring distant subjects close. A newly developed internal linear stepping motor provides quiet and smooth focusing which is ideal when shooting video. And in addition to the Power Zoom function with three variable zoom speeds, the lens supports constant speed zooming for slow, smooth zoom, which is also desirable when shooting video. Zoom can be controlled from camcorders that feature built-in zoom levers and by the standard control on the lens barrel. Optical Image Stabilization (OSS) provides 4-stops of shake-correction which will allow you to gather more light with less blur and provide clearer images when shooting in low light or at long focal lengths. When OSS is combined with the Anti Motion Blur and Hand-held Twilight Modes of NEX-series camcorders, low light interior shots can sustain themselves with lower ISO's and minimal noise even when using ambient light. An optical design that includes 5 aspherical elements and Extra-low dispersion glass provides sharp, high-contrast images throughout the frame. For a lens with such a wide zoom range, it is particularly compact and its metal exterior provides durability and a high-quality presence. Direct Manual Focus allows you to use the focus ring on the lens barrel for precise manual focus.

This lens is fantastic. If you film events zooming is essential. Using photo lens for zooming in video is ridiculous. This lens even though its only a 3 different constant speeds still solves the problems of focus breathing and loosing focus during zooms.

After evaluating the wide to telephoto zoom lens options for my NEX 6 (and possibly a future camcorder), the Sony 18-200mm power zoom was, by far, the best choice. With a wide focal length range (made even greater to 400mm by using the bi-pixel feature of the NEX), smooth and relatively quiet power zoom for video clips, close-focus capabilities, very responsive auto focus, compact design, great ergonomics and intuitive controls that readily allow switching from auto to manual zoom and focusing, the 18-200mm lens provides an excellent and versatile optic that can generally serve as an all-purpose lens. The image quality of the zoom is very good to excellent. There is some mild softness and some minor loss of contrast in the corners wide open. The rest of the range is quite sharp and contrasty, with excellent results for both stills and video. The power zoom feature is well worth the few extra ounces compared to other lens options and provides significantly better video results than can be had with manual movements. The included lens hood is helpful to prevent potential flare and protect the front element. Highly recommended.

The is is by far my favorite Sony lens. It is a great all around since it cover the full frame equivalent of a 27-300mm, and if you use clear image zoom you can extend the range to 600mm, meaning you can do everything form landscape, architecture, portraits to sports and wildlife. This is one of two Sony lens for the nex and Alpha line to have active image stabilization while recording video, the active image stabilization is way better that OSS, so much better that you can hand hold your camera at 200mm and still get smooth video. I use this lens all the time for video since it make most of my shots look like a did them with a tripod, including handheld pans and tilts. If could only buy a lens it will be this one. It has its draw backs, since the aperture is slow ... MoreThe is is by far my favorite Sony lens. After about six months of use in a wide variety of situations, this lens has proven to live up well to its all-in-one intent. This is the one that lives most of the time on the front of my a6000 camera. My uses are typical family events, travel, and kids' sports. Nobody pays me to take photos, so my perspective is that of an enthusiastic hobby photographer. One good super-zoom has proven to be a good choice over buying and carrying multiple other lenses.Likes: - Extremely versatile zoom range - Bright, sharp photos with excellent color - Autofocus is quick, accurate, and very quiet - Zoom is also quiet, whether powered or manual - Solid construction gives tight, smooth operation - Power zoom function is easy to turn on/offDislikes: - External ... MoreAfter about six months of use in a wide variety of situations, this lens has proven to live up well to its all-in-one intent. This is probably the next best super zoom to the Sony 24-240mm lens, plus it has servo zoom. At 18mm there is noticeable fisheye but not a deal breaker. This is not a power zoom lens like the f/4 ones. This is simply a smaller version of the 24-240mm (the front element extends when zooming, and the lens tube is split into two parts to make the length of the physical casing shorter) with a servo motor attached. Thats a step down from the power zooms because the zoom speed is quite limited, and the motor is tiny and makes a slight noise when operating, although the image itself zooms smoothly. At full extension it gets more front-heavy as well.So I dont know what they were thinking, but Sony chose to attach the servo motor to... the bottom... without its own tripod ... MoreThis is probably the next best super zoom to the Sony 24-240mm lens, plus it has servo zoom. Thats the absolute worst place to put a servo motor without its own mount, because I cant mount it to larger tripod plates as the motor is in the way!! The motor housing extends about a half inch past the bottom of the camera body, and it is round rather than flat, so I cant even put the camera upright on a flat surface. I just dont understand why Sony would do this.
So far I have done only one shoot - at a education function in a gymnasium. When unboxing the lens, it appeared so large compared to the two kit lenses that came with the Sony A6000 that I thought I had picked the wrong lens. It is relatively big and heavy. The supplied rectangular sun hood makes it seem even larger. However, it fit the camera body and seemed to work in my few test shots. So take it to the gym. It has a powered zoom, with three zoom speeds (labelled H, M, S, but seeming like slow, slower, and glacial). This is actually a good thing if you are shooting video, since fast zooms are kinda jarring. You can turn it off, and just grab the zoom ring and crank it yourself if you are setting still shots. This is actually a good thing if you are shooting video, since fast zooms are kinda jarring. You can turn it off, and just grab the zoom ring and crank it yourself if you are setting still shots. Autofocus worked great most of the time, fast and sharp. Once or twice it wandered off, but those shots were very low contrast so this is not a surprise. Steady shot worked very well in longer exposures. The hood doesn't cause noticeable vignetting in wide angle. So over all I would say it's a pretty great lens and it is certainly convenient to have one lens that does it all. If you don't need the power zoom, you can save a couple hundred bucks on the other lens with the manual zoom but the same f-stop and zoom range.
I've been using this lens with my FS-100 (and more recently FS7) for a while. It's my go-to for handheld don't know what's going to happen next shots because it can roll with just about any situation. It has so many things going for it. Image stabilization is strong, AF is decent, the zoom range is huge, and the image is consistently sharp. It's also par focal, except while zooming, when it will go soft momentarily before settling. The zoom servo also works well with the FS7's variable hand grip. Here's the bottom line: If this lens were a constant f/f2.8, it would be the ultimate miracle lens. I'd be willing to pay four times as much for a faster constant aperture version. But, as it is, the slow and ramping aperture is a major drag.
This is considered a "kit" lens for the Sony FS700. I bought it for a used FS 700 that was purchased without a lens... and so needed to buy one separately. I wanted variable focal length, and preferred a motorized zoom. my choices seemed to be between the Sony E PZ 18-200mm lens for $700-800 and the Sony SELP28135G Zoom Lens for $2400. I actually bought the SELP28135G first, but returned it the day i got it. Then I bought the PZ 18-200mm lens. I found the PZ 18-200 to be much more manageable and just as sharp; however, one does sacrifice a true iris ring; and the rising F-stop (as one zooms in) is annoying.
I initially bought this lens along with the Sony Nex VG 900 camera body. Both items worked really good together until...Pretty soon after the warranty expired the lens broke (something with the motor inside). I sent it to Sony service to be fixed and they told me it's not worth fixing it since it will cost a lot. I liked the combo (camera+lens) so I bought a second one. The second one I have is still running but not perfectly. The lens mechanism jumps with a click while zooming closer to 200mm. It's still ok and does a good job with autofocus, but not worth the money. Very disappointed in the product and Sony service
After testing out the 3 all-in-one Sony E mount zoom lenses on my Sony A7ii, this is far and away my favorite. Beautiful clarity & depth on variety of lighting & distances. Appreciated the ability to go manual or use the excruciatingly slow power zoom, which was great for videos but frustrating for trying to capture normal life. This is my choice for everyday lens for nature & wildlife. Comparing this with the Sony 24-240, shooting 200 on the power zoom blows away the 240 on clarity, when I found I could easily read a distant detailed sign using the power zoom, but nowhere near as well with the 24-240. Appreciate having stabilizing in the lens.
