Boasting exceptional optics, a complete feature set, and outstanding speed in all aspects, the Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS Lens easily takes its place as the de facto telephoto zoom for professionals. A member of the G Master series, this 70-200mm delivers high sharpness alongside smooth, clean bokeh and with an absolute minimum of aberrations. This is guaranteed through the use of an XA element, two aspherical elements, four extra-low dispersion elements, and two Super ED elements in the optical design. Furthermore, the lens has a Nano AR Coating that reduces reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color. Optimized for speed, this lens is equipped with a fast and constant f/2.8 aperture that will be an asset in low-light conditions as well as for creating images with shallow depth of field. Bokeh is made even better by the implementation of an eleven-blade circular diaphragm for smooth out-of-focus areas. Also, there is a double-linear and ring Super Sonic wave Motor system that provides fast, responsive autofocus in both stills and video. As a top end telephoto zoom, this lens is equipped with a variety of other technologies to assist shooters, including Optical SteadyShot image stabilization for combating camera shake, especially at longer focal lengths. Users will enjoy faster and more intuitive operation with a plethora of physical controls on the lens barrel, including three focus hold buttons, a focus range limiter switch, and both AF/MF and OSS switches. For durability and working in tough conditions, the lens is dust and moisture resistant, and it has a fluorine coating on the front element to resist water and oil.

Absolutely Fantastic Lens

I paired this lens with a Sony A7iii and it left me speechless after the first few photos I took. As it is quite expensive, I decided to rent it and try it out. I am glad I did! This lens will absolutely change the way you shoot photos and films. The clarity, autofocus, and overall sturdy feel is just phenomenal. Also I just want to add, when manipulating the lens while your camera is turned off, you'll feel a slight shift in the lens body and hear it audibly. Have no fear! It's not broken, that's normal and it happens because the linear autofocus mechanism moves freely when not connected to power. A slight scare I had at first lol. The quality of service that LensRentals provides was amazing as always. I could not ask for better service!

Rented a lens and flash for my sony prior to a busy working weekend. Had a wedding and baby shower with a brand new camera. I've rented before and had a pleasant experience and somehow it's only gotten better. The unpacking experience is an absolute joy! I wasn't expecting the rental gear to arrive in a Pelican case but it did so I even took advantage of that and used it to harbor my body, lens, batteries, as well as the rented equipment. The package also arrived 2-3 days early and I was able to pick it up and have more time to test the gear without being penalized or expected to pay for the additional days. When the time comes to return your gear you actually get an offer to buy the equipment at a discounted price because of the rental. Overall 10/10, I can't wait ... MoreRented a lens and flash for my sony prior to a busy working weekend. Had a wedding and baby shower with a brand new camera. Fabulous lens ! Pity about moderator on here.

I recently purchased a Sony camera lens, and I must say, I am extremely impressed. The image quality is outstanding, with sharp details and vibrant colors. The lens is also very versatile, allowing me to capture a wide range of subjects with ease. The build quality is top-notch, giving it a durable and professional feel. My photos have been on the covers of big magazines, and I “apologize” to the Sony moderator for disagreeing that women in lingerie are inappropriate.

Just Wow, stunning lens

After purchasing this lens I was excited to try it out, once mounted on my camera (A7IV) I noticed straight away how light this lens was, the speed and accuracy of the focus is amazing, so quiet too and I absolutely love the aperture ring on the lens allowing you to choose aperture quickly, the focus and zoom rings are very smooth and the lens itself feels very well made.I also like that the lens barrel doesn't extend thus keeping its nice size and dust resistance. Ive not used it for my usual subject yet, that being landscape photography but I have been trying it out with my 1 year old son and the portraits you get with this is superb, super sharp on the subject with beautiful bokeh. Must Have GM Lens

Gotta say this is hands-down my all time favorite and most used lenses. Short review: great quality, fast linear auto focus, superb weather sealed, and lightweight. From my experience, this lens handles everything easily, it catches focus in a snap, making sure that you won't be missing out on anything. It also has an extra aperture ring, and if you're a videographer, I think this will be a great addition, and it is my personal favorite add-on. Moreover, it has great bokeh and fast aperture that goes all the way down to f/2.8, so you can get your creamy background. Chromatic abberation control is extremely good, almost unnoticable. Sharpness is great across the focal lengths, unless you use 2x teleconverter, then you might notice slight chromatic abberation and ... MoreGotta say this is hands-down my all time favorite and most used lenses. Moreover, it has great bokeh and fast aperture that goes all the way down to f/2.8, so you can get your creamy background. Chromatic abberation control is extremely good, almost unnoticable. Sharpness is great across the focal lengths, unless you use 2x teleconverter, then you might notice slight chromatic abberation and sharpness reduction compared to 100-400 GM. Other than that, you'll get GM lens weather sealed quality, means that if you find yourself shooting in extreme weather like heavy rain or blowing sand, this will withstand it without any hassle. On top of that, it has no external zoom, so sand won't be able to get in as easily as other lenses on the market. I've been through all of that and so far, it still functions like a champ, no problems whatsoever. Another big factor for me is the weight, and it was also GM1's biggest problem. It was almost 4lbs heavy, and it gets to the point that you wouldn't want to bring it anywhere and since I got this lens, it weighted only 2.3 lbs, I started using 70-200 more than I would normally. Therefore, if you travel or handheld cameras a lot, then GM 2 would be a clear winner.TL, DR: Must have GM lens if you want to level up your photography. Fixed most of the problems from its predecessor. Worth the money.

Has a lot of potential… the glass is way better than other brands. Especially at 2.8 to help with the background blur to create that separation of focal point from the rest.I do recommend this type of lens for the beginner and pro…It does weigh 3 lbs… but when you’re up and moving around etc it’s not too bad. With that being said… if you have joint issues especially from being aged… this maybe very difficult to use.To give a person a good idea… grab a 5lbs weight ( about the camera plus lens)… carry that 5 lbs weight around and pretend it’s your camera setup… do that for about 10 minutes… if that’s too much for you… then probably this isn’t the lens for you. I would hate anyone to pay out this cash… just to leave the lens at home because it’s too heavy etc.My ... MoreHas a lot of potential… the glass is way better than other brands. So I basically blaming it on that and no so much of the equipment… but I did expect faster movement. Two thousand dollars for this lens… I bought it because the years of comments etc.2.8 of this focal length is impressive. It does work super well in well lit areas. But areas of limited light it does “meet” my needs and pretty happy. I just can’t shell out another thousand for its upgraded brother.Overall this lens still has a lot of value and I recommend it… I can still guess in the year 2050… this lens will be still used and a favorite.

The bokeh this lens produces is something beautiful, it even has an artistic look to it.Overall build quality:Very good, solid, and extremely light. It might have a "plastic" feeling to it, but I believe nowadays Sony and many other brands are developing their lenses with good quality weight saving materials. The focus and zoom ring have a thin non-sticky rubber, which I like better compared to other brands. The lens hood is beautiful, well constructed and feels like a high-quality product. No complaints with the aluminum collar as well. The "white" finish might be more difficult to maintain compared to a black finish, but it also has a big benefit by reflecting sunlight and improving heat dissipation. The focus and zoom ring are just perfect in my opinion. Well located, smooth, quick, and accurate. Also, the aperture ring is solid and very well designed with the lock and the click On-Off feature.Dust and Moisture-Resistant Construction:I've tested this lens in different " normal" conditions, (not extreme) light rain, humid and hot outdoors. So far, the lens has performed extremely well. One thing a have notice, is that it has a relative thin rubber seal around the metal mount compared to Nikon's Z series lenses (thinker and robust). Not quite sure this really matters as long as it works.Size:Small and compact compared to other 70-200mm f2.8. The size is just perfect, great to hold and great to use. The small size of this zoom lens is something to admire. It saves a lot of space in the backpack. Colleagues (and I) usually have a hard time believing how small and light this lens is.Weight:Extremely light, so light is hard to believe. I've used this lens in different assignments, non-stop for several hours and I have never complained about it. Compared to other internal zoom lenses, this one is just a joy to use. Perfect for hiking and long assignments.Focus mechanism:This lens is lighting fast, autofocus is extremely fast and 100% silent. The four XD linear motors are just superb. Great for either video or stills. Focus is almost if not instant. The only thing I would mention, is that sometimes using AF you might notice a slight "pulse". But I'm pretty sure this is a camera AF topic and not a lens issue.Manual focus is great. The Linear Manual Focus Response is a joy to use. The focus ring is smooth, extremely responsive, and accurate.Optical Steady Shot Image Stabilization:I don't own other 70-200 2.8 to compare it with. But I say it's pretty good. I've heard Nikon's Z series system is better but is something I can't confirm. The lens has 3 OSS modes and an On-Off button in the lens panel. I find this very useful but sometimes I can't notice a big difference between one mode and the other."Weird" sound when is turn off by moving elements:Nothing to worry about (in my opinion). This is normal in the new Sony focus mechanism; the element is "floating" in the rails, and this might slightly move back a forth when the lens is turned off.Weaknesses:So far, I'll say the only weakness I've came to realize is the price. I consider this lens a bit expensive compared to Nikon's Z ($2,396.95) and Canon's RF ($2,599.00) series with an applied discount. You can get these two lenses with significant discounts that will save you significant dollars.Does the light weight, small size, and amazing focus mechanism enough to justify the price? Sometimes it feels like it does and sometimes not. But this lens could definitely be more competitive and attractive with a good discount and/or a similar price as the other two brands.

Packing Ninjas that would make Marie Kondo Jealous

I have utilized Lensrentals multiple times and have always had a great experience. Whenever I have had any questions or modifications to my order, I have been given friendly and prompt answers. The quality of the equipment has always been top notch. But for this particular review, I want to call out how efficient they are.I recently had a multicam shoot where I rented a couple of FS7's, multiple lenses and accoutrement. I receive the most neatly organized and packed pelicans that I have ever seen. They truly were a thing of beauty. Going into a shoot with everything well organized and in prime shape really sets the tone for a project. Lensrentals is great and I will continue to utilize them as one of my goto gear rental services in the future!

Worth It If You Can Afford It

There is no question that if you have the money, are in the Sony system, and looking for a high-quality telephoto zoom lens, this is the lens to get. Sharp at f/2.8 and even sharper stopped down to f/4 and f/5.6. I love that it has internal zooming, so there is less chance for dust to enter the lens and less weight shifting when zooming in or out. This second version is also lighter, which I appreciate when shooting hand-held. The only problem is the length, but I can just fit this lens attached to a camera, a second camera with a 24-70mm lens, and 1-2 prime lenses into my Atlas Athlete backpack. The backpack is full and heavy, but it will fit.Even though I mostly shoot landscape, seascape, Milky Way nightscape, and flower/macro photography, this lens adds to my ... MoreThere is no question that if you have the money, are in the Sony system, and looking for a high-quality telephoto zoom lens, this is the lens to get. The backpack is full and heavy, but it will fit.Even though I mostly shoot landscape, seascape, Milky Way nightscape, and flower/macro photography, this lens adds to my range of lenses (Sony FE 14mm F1.8 GM, Sony FE 24mm F1.4 GM, Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II, Sony FE 90mm F2.8 Macro G OSS) along with my Sony a7R III and a7 III for different perspectives and purposes.I purchased this lens and received it in December 2022, before my trip to Death Valley National Park. I was glad I had a telephoto zoom as I captured some photos I would not have gotten with my other lenses. Since then, I’ve taken it with me and looked for reasons to use it to give a different perspective compared to wider lenses. After about five months, I’ve had no issues or complaints about this lens. It has been worth it for me, even with the steep price. I now prefer to wait to save up for native glass if it offers high image quality and fast focusing.
