Zeiss has been Sonys long term partner in manufacturing quality optic products and they did not disappoint in creating this outstanding piece of ultra-wide lens. When mounted on FE (full frame) Sony body, this lens is really wide. It finds its perfect use in outdoors and landscapes shooting as well as architecture and interior. The ED (means: Extra Low Dispersion) glass elements are responsible for fantastic edge-to-edge sharpness and colour reproduction. It certainly is one of the most preferred wide lenses for Sony mirrorless systems. This lens continuously receives 5 stars reviews from both professionals and amateurs. It is fully compatible with both the a7 and a5000, a6000 and older NEX series cameras.

The Sony FE 16-35mm F/4 ZA OSS rental was as spectacular as the other rentals I have made through LensRental.com. Not only are the lenses well maintained and cared for but the company has always provided a consistently wonderful experience. I look forward to my next rental opportunity!

in love with this lens. I was originally just looking for a really high quality wide or ultra-wide lens for landscape timelapse, but the versatility of the 16-35 range is amazing--and tack sharp throughout. Perfect walkaround lens--not too bulky to handle off-tripod like almost any sigma. And the OSS on top of the built-in stabilization with the a7iii makes video perform to an almost steadicam-smooth degree. Really gorgeous colors and superb sharpness. Only potential downside is the somewhat slow aperture, maxing open at 4. While not ideal for low lighting ISO can compensate and this aperture makes it extremely convenient to get almost everything in focus on every shot. It also can stay constant while zooming, huge plus for video. I've already used this for ... Morein love with this lens. I recently moved from the A6000 to A7ii full frame. Having owned a number of lenses for APS-C, I was torn in moving to the A7 series whether I should go with primes or zooms. I mainly do landscape photography and I was hesitant to go with this zoom lens over a dedicated prime. I am not a pixel peeper, but I do like to confirm when purchasing a new lens that it’s sharp in center and reasonably sharp on the corners and edges. I likely watched every review and video on this lens. Most reviews spoke very highly of the lens with the only concern being that it tended towards softness at 35mm. This did not concern me as I was mainly looking towards its use from 16-24 (my favorite focal lengths for landscapes). This did not concern me as I was mainly looking towards its use from 16-24 (my favorite focal lengths for landscapes). After purchasing the lens, I can see where so many photographers, including landscape pros, carry on about this lens. I have found CA to be quite low even at f/4. 16mm wide open is impressively sharp through the entire frame. Focus is accurate and quick. The lens produces striking sunstars with well managed flare. I also found that 35mm stopped down to f/8 is more than adequate for my needs. The lens body has a high quality feel which is typical for Sony Zeiss lenses, I am quite pleased with this lens and find that f/4 is not a limitation for my type of photography. I highly recommend this lens.
This is my favourite lens for travel and street photography. The f-stop at 4 is good for letting in decent light onto the sensor. And this is helpful for architecture, street, real-estate photography I do. Even for outdoor events, this wider focal length gives a whole new perspective. The bokeh is minimal to none, but picture quality is top notch and sharp from corner to corner. Much affordable compared to G-Master, and Zeiss coating on the lens controls the dispersion giving almost similar results to a 16-35 G master. The human eye in daylight works at a f/8 and I use that as a benchmark for every lens I use in daylight. The results at f6.3-f8 have always been the sharpest, and I just love this lens. I also like the fact this isn't having any buttons. just a zoom ring, and a focus ring. I would probably like an aperture ring that is clickable, in it's next iteration.
I've shot many thousands of photos with this lens, and the key point, as one reviewer stated, is that the color rendition, tonality and 3d modeling is very good. It's much better than the Tamron 17-28 (which I've also used a lot) in this regard, which produces very clean, flat, boring images with strange color. This lens isn't perfect. Better if the barrel didn't extend and if it was sharper at 35, but at f4 I think it's the best choice, and other than the G master the only other option at 2.8 or f4 that doesn't have issues. The PZ has terrible distortion at 16, the 17-28 images are very off-putting (I also have the 28-75 and it's much different and better), and the Sigma has terrible vignetting.
I bought this alongside the 24-105mm F4, to use for landscapes. I have no need for an expensive and heavy F2.8 version, so settled on this lens, as it was the only option at the time. I was hoping for performance similar to the equivalent Canon EF lens, which is cheaper yet excellent. I also assumed that given the Zeiss badging and the fact that it is only 2X zoom versus 4X that it would easily outperform my standard zoom. How disappointed I've been with it. The 24-105 is much sharper. This lens is adequate in the centre across the range, but nothing more. The corners are never sharp, especially at either end of the range, very bad for landscapes. Would have been understandable if it cost half the price, but for £1200, I assume half the price must have gone on the ... MoreI bought this alongside the 24-105mm F4, to use for landscapes. So I only use this lens if I need less than 24mm, otherwise I just use the standard zoom. Trying to decide whether to replace it with the Tamron 17-28 or Sony 20mm, both considerably cheaper and faster.
I purchased this lens primarily for real estate photography and it is the perfect all-around option. The lens seems super sharp at 16mm and pretty clean at 35mm. The included polarizer is great for reducing sun glare on hard wood floors and other surfaces. I shot several images with and without the polarizer and it doesnt seem to reduce image quality or have any color cast issues. The 16mm focal length is a great wide-angle option without being too wide that it introduces distortion. This lens is also smaller and lighter than I expected (probably because my main lens is a 24-70 G Master), but the body and focus/zoom rings are all metal and the build quality seems solid. AF is fast and quiet. I changed from Nikon to Sony because I wanted to go mirrorless and the Sony fitted the bill. I'm using the Sony a7111 with the Vario-Tessar T* FE 16-35mm F4 ZA.It would be an understatement to say that I love this lens! It's sharp, and I mean SHARP! Once focussed it stays there, the focussing ring is smooth but firm, no creep whatsoever. I mostly use manual focus but this cameras auto focus is very fast and accurate. Shooting mostly at f11, edge to edge and corner to corner images are sharp enough to cut through doors at Fort Knox. Of course it's down to me to make sure I focus accurately but when I get it right I couldn't be happier with the results. It's not Sony's top 16-35 zoom but from the build quality and performance you'd think it was!Highly recommended...
This co-branded Sony/Zeiss lens feels a lot more Zeiss than Sony. (Pre G master series). Incredible build quality - with terrific, controlled action with the zoom and focus rings. I've mated this with my Sony a7S and the auto-focus improvements over a previous Sony lens are significant. This lens really unlocks the power and potential of my a7S in ways I didn't think possible. The image looks sharp center to edges - and I didn't see any image degradation throughout the aperture range or focal length. Yes, at f4, it's not an especially fast lens - but the a7S's capabilities make this a non-issue for me. I also like being able to have objects in focus about 7 or 8 inches form the lens. In short time, this has become my default lens - the one on the camera most of the ... MoreThis co-branded Sony/Zeiss lens feels a lot more Zeiss than Sony. (Pre G master series). In short time, this has become my default lens - the one on the camera most of the time, especially roaming through streets or countrysides. I've also been using it in event shoots and i've been very happy with the results. Truth be told, I was on the forever waiting list for the Batis 25mm - and simply couldn't wait any longer and, with initial regret, abandoned the wait to go with my second choice - this lens. I feel very fortunate that I made this decision - especially with the added OSS - and now have no regrets at all with this choice. This is a more versatile lens than the Batis and the quality and imaging appear to be on par.
