Boasting exceptional optics, a complete feature set, and outstanding speed in all aspects, the Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS Lens easily takes its place as the de facto telephoto zoom for professionals. A member of the G Master series, this 70-200mm delivers high sharpness alongside smooth, clean bokeh and with an absolute minimum of aberrations. This is guaranteed through the use of an XA element, two aspherical elements, four extra-low dispersion elements, and two Super ED elements in the optical design. Furthermore, the lens has a Nano AR Coating that reduces reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color. Optimized for speed, this lens is equipped with a fast and constant f/2.8 aperture that will be an asset in low-light conditions as well as for creating images with shallow depth of field. Bokeh is made even better by the implementation of an eleven-blade circular diaphragm for smooth out-of-focus areas. Also, there is a double-linear and ring Super Sonic wave Motor system that provides fast, responsive autofocus in both stills and video. As a top end telephoto zoom, this lens is equipped with a variety of other technologies to assist shooters, including Optical SteadyShot image stabilization for combating camera shake, especially at longer focal lengths. Users will enjoy faster and more intuitive operation with a plethora of physical controls on the lens barrel, including three focus hold buttons, a focus range limiter switch, and both AF/MF and OSS switches. For durability and working in tough conditions, the lens is dust and moisture resistant, and it has a fluorine coating on the front element to resist water and oil.

What's the first thing people do with a Telephoto Lens of this caliber ? I use this Lens for my Aviation , Bird and Sport photography. I traded in my Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary for this Lens because of its internal zoom and because i don't like those heavy zoom lens that grow in length when Zooming in and out and because of the wear and tear of those moving parts moving a tube with heavy glass in it. This Lens skips all that. The Zoom is quiet and very smooth. This lens is really heavy, as one would expect. Considering what it does the Job with perfection it is very acceptable. This Lens skips all that. The Zoom is quiet and very smooth. This lens is really heavy, as one would expect. Considering what it does the Job with perfection it is very acceptable. It has a lot of features I need to look into further . What I do like is that big ring on the lens is the zooming ring which is in an excellent place, right where you would hold the lens when shooting compared to the Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary which is ridiculously right in between the Lens and the Camera . The smaller ring is for manual focusing. Question, is it sharp? Yes, it is very sharp. The pictures I took of detailed objects show extremely good sharpness for a zoom lens. I took photos ranging from the Airplanes, Helicopters, the moon, birds in flight and other moving objects with it and love it but for panning it's very tiring due to it's Weight. I wish Sony could focus on the Weight factor also for it's future lens , please. All very good and even handheld, the lens performed greatly. The images stabilization built in the lens does a great job when hand-held the camera and lens . While this lens is a 200-600mm lens for a full frame Sony camera, it becomes a 300-900mm lens when hooked up to a Sony a6000 series of crop sensor cameras and with the Teleconverter 1.4x and 2x it becomes respectively 280-840 mm and 400-1200mm which is outstanding for Aviation Photography. That can come in handy for those needing to reach way out there for a photo. I am very happy with this lens. It fits in nicely in my Lowepro Protactic Light Professional 450 AW II backpack with my 70-200 f2.8 GM ( with internal zooming too ) and my 24-70mm f2.8 Zoom lenses . I would say the price is too high, but it is worth it as it works perfectly with my Sony A9 snd A7S camera. Zooming is fantastic and focusing is fast and spot on... my only great disappointment is the Pouch bag that comes with the Sony 200-600mm which i expected to be a GM padded Pouch when i unboxed it . I wished Sony could look after his loyal Customers like me by sending them Sony Apparels e.g Sony Baseball Caps or Bennies , giving them discounts and more for spending so much money on their highly expensive Cameras and Lenses like the 200-600mm but Worth it ...

This was a great lens and I was very impressed with the company that let me rent it! They gave instructions well, everything from receiving the package, using the product, and even returning it ! I love how they printed their own shipping label for you already and provided you with tape lol. Overall this is an amazing company and I would 1 million % recommend them to anyone. This is a great business for so many reasons. Instead of going out and just buying the lease I wanted, because of Lensrentals I was able to test it out and see if I liked it.

Overall I would like to own both of these lenses but my wallet cannot fund that.Attached are 8 images that I took with this lens at various focal distances and apertures. As good as a lens gets

It's a Sony GM. Need I say more? Yes. It's a true gem. It completes my "Holy Trinity" of lenses (Sigma Art series 24-70mm f/2.8 and Sigma Art series 85mm f/1.4). It creates a gorgeous image with my Sony 7R IVA. The only problem I have is not with the lens (this or my other two), but with the unreliable autofocus of the camera. I thought it was just those Sigma lenses, but it's a problem even with this beast. If the camera cooperates, the images with this lens are at the pro level I need and expect. I must caution that this is a heavy lens. You don't exactly hold it; it's more like you heave it. It's also big. I bought a large-size camera bag so I could carry all three of my lenses along with my camera everywhere I go, but the bag isn't big enough to fit this one in ... MoreIt's a Sony GM. Need I say more? In summary, yes, this lens will set you back a few months' rent and maybe a few meals, but it's worth it if you want the best.

Great Choice!

So, I was definitely skeptical of Lens Rental before I decided to order. Why? The prices are way lower than other places and the reviews are better. I don’t know, but that seemed to be a red flag for me. However, I was in a bind before leaving for Iceland and decided to take a risk. I’m glad I did! I went with the 70-200 for my Sony FX30 and it was here a week early… for free! I was able to shoot blue whales, puffins, horse, and reindeer! To send the lens back they included a shipping label, a box, and even the tape! I will definitely be renting from here again and soon! Africa 2024 is coming!

Not like Canon 70-200

I came from the Canon side of the fence. I switched entirely to SONY from 7D and this lens is right up there with Canon L lenses. Image quality is pristine with a6000. It's only 200mm and only F4 but it's significantly smaller and lighter than Canon 100-400 and cheaper than 200mm F2.8, it's perfect travel lens. Two a6000 bodies, E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS and this lens fit in a small carry-on personal bag along with a laptop and all accessories. I used to haul 7D with 100-400 and another lens in a backpack. Now I can carry two a6000 with lenses attached over my shoulder and it seems less bulky. The lens quality is very high with one silly exception: the sliders are too easy to slide. If you have the lens dangling from you shoulder it's enough to move the sliders randomly. It gets slightly annoying after a while and seems like a glaring design omission. I had to get into a habit of checking the sliders pretty much every time I raise the camera up or discover that AF was toggled to MF and/or IS was turned off. That's where one star gets deducted. The zoom and focus rings are silky smooth. Image stabilization works well, no problems with shooting flying birds or airplanes at 200mm. Unlike my old Canon 100-400L, this lens zoom is fully internal, the lens doesn't expand when zoomed and there is no lens creep, yay!I am not a pixel peeper. I'm just a hobbyist who wants to strike a balance between cost, portability and image quality while hiking for hours. As far as I am concerned this lens produces stunning images with my a6000 that are better than what my 7D with 100-400L could do, sans the extra 200mm, but also sans the bulk. Combined with the fast a6000 focus this lens is a blast to use.The attached images are unedited, just exported from Lightroom with default settings.

Has a lot of potential… the glass is way better than other brands. Especially at 2.8 to help with the background blur to create that separation of focal point from the rest.I do recommend this type of lens for the beginner and pro…It does weigh 3 lbs… but when you’re up and moving around etc it’s not too bad. With that being said… if you have joint issues especially from being aged… this maybe very difficult to use.To give a person a good idea… grab a 5lbs weight ( about the camera plus lens)… carry that 5 lbs weight around and pretend it’s your camera setup… do that for about 10 minutes… if that’s too much for you… then probably this isn’t the lens for you. I would hate anyone to pay out this cash… just to leave the lens at home because it’s too heavy etc.My ... MoreHas a lot of potential… the glass is way better than other brands. So I basically blaming it on that and no so much of the equipment… but I did expect faster movement. Two thousand dollars for this lens… I bought it because the years of comments etc.2.8 of this focal length is impressive. It does work super well in well lit areas. But areas of limited light it does “meet” my needs and pretty happy. I just can’t shell out another thousand for its upgraded brother.Overall this lens still has a lot of value and I recommend it… I can still guess in the year 2050… this lens will be still used and a favorite.

Sharp Lens!
25 July 2023

The Sony 70-200mm lens is a remarkable piece of equipment that delivers outstanding performance. Its versatile focal range allows for capturing stunning portraits, sports events, wildlife, and more. The lens produces sharp images with excellent contrast and minimal distortion. The fast autofocus and image stabilization feature make it ideal for capturing action shots even in challenging conditions. Though it's a bit bulky and expensive, the image quality and overall performance justify the investment for serious photographers looking to elevate their work to new heights.

Super Versatile Telephoto Lens
4 January 2023

I'm amazed by the versatility of this lens. I can get great portrait shots in addition to action, sports, and landscape. I originally bought the step down with the higher apature but couldnt get the best shots. The 2.8 on this lens is a true difference maker for sure. Id highly recommend spending yhe extra dollars here to upgrade. For me its been well worth it.

Too heavy and bulky to be toting around.
16 April 2023

Honestly the lens itself worked great the images were pretty good I will say if you are not using a tripod this lens is freaking heavy. I attempted to shoot an engagement session with this lens and the images were super shaky and I lost a lot of quality simply because the lens was too heavy to be carrying around. Maybe I'm just spoiled with all of my prime lenses but I definitely think I can get amazing images with Just as good compression just as good of a bokah background using a prime lens. I think this lens would work great for someone who is shooting a wedding or something where they can have this lens on a tripod but again otherwise it's just too heavy to be toting around.
