Astaxanthin is a great antioxidant that has a number of anti-aging benefits. It can help with the immune system, help fight inflammation and even help protect your skin. This supplement from Sports Nutrition is a personal favorite because they use coconut oil as a base. This is extremely beneficial because it helps with absorption of the Astaxanthin, while using an oil that is extremely shelf stable.I have used other Astaxanthin products by other companies that have used oil bases that went rancid. Coconut oil is the least likely oil to go rancid and thus I think it's genius that they decided to use it as a base here.

It is a potent antioxidant that helps to neutralize free radicals in the body, which can cause damage to cells and contribute to aging. It also supports cardiovascular health and may help to improve endurance and athletic performance.Overall, I highly recommend Sports Research Astaxanthin as an excellent supplement for overall health and wellness. Astaxanthin has really helped my eyesight which was rapidly deteriorating due to so much time spent on the computer. My vision seems much sharper and the colors much brighter now. I was experiencing very blurred vision which has now been alleviated since taking high does Astaxanthin. I didn't notice any improvement until I upped the dose from 4mg to 12 mg. Astaxanthin is a strong free radical scavenger and potent anti-oxidant. According to a 2007 study, astaxanthin is 6,000 times stronger than vitamin C, 800 times stronger than CoQ10, 550 times stronger than green tea catechins and 75 times stronger than alpha lipoic acid. Unlike other antioxidants, such as beta carotene, zeaxanthin, vitamin E, C, D and selenium, astaxanthin never becomes pro-oxidant in the body. I have used Sports Research astaxanthin for a few years now. I first discovered it when researching on-line and learning about possible sun protection capabilities.I am blond and fair skinned. If I am not careful I can get sun-burned very easily.Well, that's not true! Since taking astaxanthin daily, I have not had a sun-burn. This is even with hours of sun exposure. My skin may become red, but there has not been burned skin.I refuse to slather up with chemical sun lotions. Astaxanthin is my sun lotion!I like Sports Research brand because - assuming all that the company states - the product is tested and is 'clean.'
There are many astaxanthin formulations, but many of them often are formulated with unhealthy carrier oils and other questionable ingredients. The Sports Research astaxanthin is formulated with organic virgin coconut oil which is far healthier than the non-organic seed oils used by many others. This formulation is one of my favorites. The 12mg dosage size is great for everyday maintenance. If one is going to a polluted city, however, it is safe to up the dosage to 12mg three times a day. The body tolerates higher levels of astaxanthin very well, producing few if any negative side effects. And, of course, the higher levels of astaxanthin help protect the body from the pollution (as shown by many research studies). I am not sure how I should rate/comment on this product.I chose this product because it seemed to be a good buy.I am in my twenties. Because I was spending a lot of time looking at screens daily, my eyes were feeling a bit tired and uncomfortable. So, I bought and took these daily for over an year, but I didn't really feel any difference.I thought maybe I was just spending too much time looking at screens. I didn't know would my eyes feel worse if I didn't take them. So, I stopped taking them. Now, it has been over an year, and I still don't feel any difference.I wonder if it is because there really isn' t any difference, or is it just that I can't feel or notice it?I only know my stomach felt a bit uncomfortable after taking capsules every day.
