I used to be a longtime Bose user. I had been using Bose speakers all the way back to my first 301s back in 1986. I had no idea what truly good sound was like, I just thought they sounded good. Before upgrading to SVS, I had:- Sony STR-DG1100 HDMI Receiver (nice receiver, but 15 years old so ready for a change)- Bose 201s for the front- Bose VCS-10 for the center- Bose 161s for the surrounds- A small Velodyne Impact Mini subwooferI thought the system sounded fine, but to be honest I'd never had anything better. Then I replaced them with the SVS Prime Tower Surround System, an SVS PB-2000 subwoofer, and Denon AVR-X6400H receiver, and everything changed. It actually took a few days to really see the difference, maybe my ears just needed some time to adjust. I'm not an audiophile or anything, so I can't get very technical here. But there is a big difference with SVS. It doesn't just sound like a speaker putting out all of the sounds at once at a really loud volume - I can now hear the individual sounds as if they're completely separate from everything else. The surround sound really envelops me and makes it feel like I'm right in the middle of the movie (or song). And the subwoofer - wow! It's more than just a big subwoofer that puts out a bunch of bass. You can really feel the different kinds of bass, from crisp shots to deep rumbles, and none of them overwhelm the rest of the system. It sounds like it's paired perfectly with the Prime speakers.SVS has a new customer for life. When the time is right, I hope to expand the system from 5.1 to 7.1, 9.1 and eventually 11.1 (which the Denon supports). Might even get a second PB-2000 later.

Now my front stage is seamless with no boomy sound from the dialog and good channel separation. The extra cost for the piano gloss finish was well worth it. Every time I walk by them I smile.

Rock musicians have stuck to the single coil guitar using solid state distortion amplifier sound even in the age of digitization, and digitization, especially at lower resolutions as in CD and MP3, tend to make the sound muddy and guttural at times (depending on the song). It never used to be a problem with analog recordings on vinyl or even tape. Its like picturing a landscape in 640 pixel resolution when only 4k would do justice. Digitization works for pop, hip-hop, rap etc because there is very little intrinsic musical value to them and they get by with loud, synthetic bass. But I find Metallica sounds OK because a) they do not use keyboards in any of their songs, which often add to the muddiness and background noise and b) they mostly use humbuckers which offer smoother distortion. For songs that do not have harsh guitar distortion, these speakers sound as good as any. All in all, the speakers offer a lot of value for money.

I believe my Prime Tower speakers have been played enough to be broken in by now.I really enjoyed the speaker placement article I was sent. As the placement of the Prime Towers is very critical to how they sound. I expected to be blown away with the imaging and detail based on all the reviews I read. I was not pleased with them when they were on the floor. So I moved them around quite a bit, with little improvement. On the plus side, I now consider myself an expert at running the Audyssey on the Denon. When I put them on stands there was a noticeable improvement. On the plus side, I now consider myself an expert at running the Audyssey on the Denon. When I put them on stands there was a noticeable improvement. Unfortunately, the lowest my current speaker stands will go is 13." According to the speaker placement guide I really need to find a pair of 8" stands that will support their weight, that will put them at the right height. I've listened to the towers by themselves in stereo, as well as in the multi-channel setup of 7.2, which is how I prefer to listen now.The addition of the Prime Towers may have improved the sound of my system by a percent if at all. My system already sounded excellent, I just wanted to add towers as front speakers. My impression is that any improvement I perceive is from moving up from the 5.2 to the 7.2. They do sound clean, warm, and full-bodied, but placement is critical. Make sure to read the SVS speaker placement article.I really wanted to be blown away, but I wasn't. I still haven't been able to achieve any imaging out of these. This is my evaluation in my room, in your room and set-up you may well get the results I've read in some of these 5 star reviews.I'm 61, and have listened to music over 10 hours a day, every day for most of my life. I love Jazz, classical, big band, rock and country music. So I've tested the speakers on a wide variety of music. I was unable to listen to the SVS recommended music list as the "free" trial service requires a CC so they can auto-bill you at the end of the trial. Apparently, the streaming service SVS uses doesn't believe they provide enough value for someone to subscribe without being auto-billed. They bank on people getting caught up in life and forgetting to cancel. So I've used CD's which contain the music I've used to compare many speakers throughout my life. The streaming music I listen to is in 258 kbps. Most of my CD's have been converted to 258 kbps files so I can listen to them via HEOS as well. I prefer my music to sound as close to what I remember hearing during the live performances as possible.I still need to find some 8 inch stands, which will support the weight of the Prime Towers. Then replace my old monster cables that I'm using with more of the SVS cable, I'll need about 200 more feet to finish it out. And of course, I have to do the work, which depends on how I'm feeling on how soon I get to it. The Prime Towers are short runs as they are my front speakers, so they will be the easiest. But I used the SVS cable I purchased on my middle speakers because cutting it in half worked perfectly for those two speakers. They do sound better on the SVS cable than they did with my old Monster Cable. Good cable does make an audible difference in the sound quality. My room is 15' by 17' 6", with an opening of 9' at the back to my breakfast nook which is another 9' deep. It's a hard room, with wood floors, leather furniture, wood blinds, and no drapes. Due to my allergies, I don't have anything soft in the room that can hold allergens to aggravate my allergies. But it also won't absorb any sound, so it's a hard room, but I'm not hearing much reflection. My back speakers are at 17' 6". My subs are on the LFE cable, and the rest of the speakers are powered by my Denon AVR-S740 7.2 system.I'm not usually one who returns things, so I threw away the boxes when I got these and don't plan on returning them. I still move them around, as well as other items in the room, trying to get the sound right. Hopefully with new cables and the proper 8" stands it will get them sounding better and I won't have to move any more furniture. If after any more adjustments I can get some decent imaging from these Prime Towers, I will update this review.
I received my Prime Towers on 2/21/18, and immediately unpacked them and connected them to my Audio System. My first impression was that they were very harsh in the upper end with decent bass, but not as clean as my Mission 735 Towers that I was trying to replace. I realized that the Prime Towers must be broken-in before making a judgement, so I continued with the break-in process. (SVS recommends at least 34 hours of break-in)After 36 hours of break-in, I still found them to be very harsh sounding on the mid to upper end, and not offering the depth and impact on the lower end when compared to my Mission 735 Towers. I realize that this is all subjective, but I'm an old musician who worked his way through college playing trumpet with some of the hotel house big-bands in San Juan, P.R. back in the 70's.Therefore, I have a little experience in what live music sounds like. and have always tried to emulate this in my audio systems over the years. The SVS Towers continue to be a bargain at this price point, but just not for me. I must say that their customer service is beyond what any other company offers today.I will be purchasing an SB-2000 sub-woofer from SVS in the near future to complete my audio system with the Mission Towers. Thanks for the experience!
Since embarking on a long-term project of creating great sound in my music/home theater space, WWS has been my go-to for advice, selection, and service. They turned me on to SVS early, and these towers were a fantastic addition since returning to vinyl. Tons more depth allows me to hear layers I hadn't heard before in many old favorites. And home theater? Power and immersion for a fraction of the cost of brands with similar specs. A winner.
I began my foray into the world of high fidelity audio with a Yamaha TSR-7850 receiver powering a pair of Polk Audio RTI-A3 bookshelves, which in comparison to acting else I’d owned sounded fantastic, until I blew them out. I then went with a pair of Klipsch Rb51 ii, which were a huge step up, so shortly thereafter I upgraded to a monolith by monoprice x2 and a DACMagic 200m, powering my first Floorstanding speakers, a pair of Klipsch RP280f, which were fantastic, but a little on the bright side. I have since purchased the SVS Prime Towers and was amazed at the quality and clarity! The 3.5 way crossover design give an exceptionally balanced and blended sound. Two years ago I had some Martin Logan motion 40's, ML bookshelf, center, surrounds and sub for over $4,500. I was not happy with the output, sound and 4ohm power hungryness. Then I went with the DefTech complete system, which was of course a downgrade but the music and video sound was OK and I didn't like the fact there were no speaker grilles and had to leave the cloth on the speakers, the sub was a hollow rumble too so ended up selling this system as well. Long story short I now have what I believe to be the perfect all around system from SVS. Quality. World Class Speakers at a fraction of the ML's and other high-end speakers. The SVS 1000 sub is scary, but in a good way and will take your blurays and 4k's to a whole new level. The SVS 1000 sub is scary, but in a good way and will take your blurays and 4k's to a whole new level. I finally got these SVS towers to replace the SVS bookshelves as front and now are being used as surrounds. I am not much on tech-talk but I do know amazing sounding speakers when I hear them and being at least an audiophile since 1973, these are the absolute best sounding towers, bookshelves, center, surrounds and sub I have ever heard. At any price, any time and anywhere. Oh ya, about $2,000 less than the ML's with twice the sound and efficiency at 8ohm. If you are in the market then look no further than SVS!
I am using these with a Sonos Amp, also from Best Buy, and I am thrilled with the sound of these speakers. There is a great deal of bass which is what I was after. I'm a fan of SVS subs and I like these just as much. SVS really does create some fantastic products. This is purely a music only system. I'm not interested in home theaters or things like that. I may add an SVS 3000 micro sub in the future but for now I 'm all set. Music has never sounded better. The speakers themselves are tall but at the same time not so big that they take over a living area. The piano black finish looks beautiful and makes it seem like they cost more than what they retail at. Overall, I'm pleased. I'm now a huge SVS fan of not only their subs, but also their speakers.
I don’t often leave reviews unless I’m really loving an item of have a negative experience. I can tell you there is absolutely nothing that I do not love about this system. I looked at many options and listened to many different surround systems and I can tell you I am so glad I took these for a 45 day test drive. First off the team at SVS are great I emailed several times, did live chat and even spoke on the phone before purchasing these. Their main concern was making sure I got exactly what I wanted and took the time to help me figure out what I needed based on room size, what I was driving the system with and what I wanted to get from my listening experience. Buying could not have been made any easier. I ordered online and everything showed up 5 days later although there was an issue with fedx forgetting to unload one speaker they showed delivered. I called the team at SVS and they told me if it did not show up by the end of the day they would get another one to me to take care of it. Thankfully it showed up this was no fault of SVS at all and they were still willing to take care of it. All speakers were packed perfectly and all contents were in perfect condition. The craftsmanship on these speakers is top notch and the cabinets are flawless. Now for the sound I am blown away by how much I was missing with my old surround sound. I have been watching movies and listening to music for the last several days with a huge smile on my face. I am simply amazed at the sound quality of this system. So if your on the fence and can’t decide what system to get I recommend trying these first I’m sure your experience will be amazing and you will be happy you tried these first.
