I've bought one of these plus a Reolink Lumus to cover the driveway and entry respectively. The Lumus was easier to install as it had 2 metres of cable from the camera to the power jack connector. The Swann has a big lump of cables starting 30cm from the camera which makes placement really difficult for me. The Swann app needs restarting a bit on my phone so the live feed actually loads. I purchased two of these cameras in October 2021 and put one up and straight away the plastic casing/socket holding the ball the camera pivots on cracked with minimal tightening up of the locking nut…after many emails back and forth (Swann asking me for the same information multiple times) I gave up trying to return the product. Recently I have decided I may as well mount the other camera I purchased at the same time in October 2021…as soon as mounted it I noticed when locking up the plastic nut - this camera has also cracked in exactly the same place (the nut was not over tightened - it has not got anywhere near tight). This part cannot be replaced as the camera cable runs through the middle of it. The cable running from the camera is quite short, also due to the connections for power, reset button and option to hardwire it to Ethernet cable - if you wanted to run the cables inside the property and not have the connections hanging outside, you would need to drill a huge hole to feed them into the property. Also it would be nice if the option was there to put in a micro SD like in the Swannbuddy door bell, so you have more storage options. Such a shame as used to have a Swann cctv set up for 8 years or so and those cameras were far better build quality, easier to mount and far better wifi range.

My review will likely be a consolidation of many previous reviews here. I bought 3 of these cameras, installed 2 of them in my roof eaves around March/April 2020 whilst undergoing a renovation (so install was really easy). They were sensational, worked really well. App interface was fine. Until…. I think it was probably about September or October 2020 (after some 5-6 months of perfect operation), they just dropped out and would not reconnect at all. The ONLY thing that had changed, I believe, was a firmware update on the cameras themselves (wishing I hadn’t executed it, in hindsight, but how was I to know?). It basically killed my connectivity and despite some 6 hours to advanced level technicians in the US (on call-back), I was unable to resolve. I will give credit; the US technician was very patient and helpful – and I sensed his frustration as he was simply not able to fix the issue, even after many hours of trying. As I said, I am hanging on to the 2 cameras I have in the slim hope Swann will fix the issues….. But for now, I recommend buyers stay clear of these cameras until reviews indicate Swann has fixed the core problem.

I have had the camera for around 4 or so months & have had to factory reset & remove the camera from my account then re-add it multiple times.It took 5 hours just to get the camera to connect to the network when I first got it. I tried it through both Android and Apple and neither phone worked, both had different issues. I was on hold to tech. support when it started randomly working on my partner's iPhone, after I had given up trying to get it to connect on my phone.I have had to factory reset & remove the camera from my account then re-add it three times already. Live view stops working, I can't change settings as the app says "Device Disconnected Retry" even though I am still getting motion notifications & can view playback. Please try again later"Because I have this camera installed at the front door on the roof, I cannot have the reset button next to the camera otherwise anyone who comes to the door could push the button, so when I have these issues, I have to crawl through the roof, push the reset button & crawl back through the roof to make sure it has reset. If it hasn't reset then I have to crawl back again. As you can tell by the photo, having the reset button by the camera is not a viable idea & I cannot have the reset button on the other side of the door because the reset button cable is too short.Back on the 4th of July it did it & here we are on the 11th of September & it has done it again.My cheaper Kmart cameras are more reliable than this camera. I have owned the Kmart cameras for around a year & have only once had to unplug and plug them back in. And they connect straight back to the network whereas if I disconnect the Swann camera from the network either by unplugging or restarting the router, I have to crawl through the roof to hit the reset button.When it works, it is brilliant and I would give it 5 stars, but this part-disconnection (as I have said, I still get playback and motion notifications just not live view or ability to change settings) issue is not acceptable.I am now going to look at getting a refund as having to remove the camera from the account & reset it the amount of times that I have had to do it in such a short period of time has gone beyond a joke.
Purchased a few months ago - the quality of the camera is not crisp where you see the freckles on someone's face but it is good enough to see the broader picture of someone moving in your backyard. My main issues are the bulkiness of the power pack you plug in to the wall, especially for outdoor use it is very hard not to miss the device, there is a 1-2 second delay but this may be the quality of your wifi, the speaker phone is very low and because of the delay you cannot use it for talking to someone, the nightvision is good enough, sun-brightness can also make it difficult to see on some days, too many cables you get a power cable, then two other cables to plug-in to ethernet and one I assume into another swann device, they just hang there freely. This is my second swann camera I have added to the house now. The software and app have been updated (had some troubles a year ago with the other one) but it is running so much better now. I can view all my cameras at the click of a button in the app through wifi and it works as it should. Gives peace of mind when I'm away from home. Can also add the cameras to my google home setup and just ask google to 'show camera' and can display the cameras on the home hub screen or tv screen when I'm at the back of the house to quickly see what's going on in the front yard. Very handy. The picture quality is decent for the price, this isn't 4K but it is colour vision at day and black and white at night. Over a 3 week period the cameras needed dismounting for reset as App wouldn’t recognise either camera. Spoke to Tech Support multiple times in an effort to establish the fault and fix. Tech Support insisted on the cameras being uncounted to perform a rest each time the error occurred. After explaining the difficulties performing this on a frequent basis, I politely asked for permission to return these to the place of purchase for a credit, this request was refused! As we have multiple other cameras installed form a different manufacturer, we are confident no WiFi issues impacted the performance of the Swann cameras. A bird, a cob web, wind in the trees, etc. The worst part though is that they are out of warranty now and three of the four have pivot mounting brackets that have fallen apart. The cameras tended to lower out of position due to gravity. If I tightened them carefully a bit at a time the end result was the same. The bracket collar around the ball bracket fell to pieces. Swan has offered for me to apply for a warranty claim and they would process it if the items are under warranty however they are out of warranty. They also offered to direct me to a place to buy my own replacement parts. Unfortunately that would mean buying them and re-pulling all cables. Noooooo. Would costs heaps of $ or pain depending on whether I chose to do it myself. Anyone say McGuiver or throw them out!
I bought the twin pack and later an additional camera. With the initial setup I needed Swann support to force through a firmware upgrade and that fixed the connection reliability issues. Same again. When I added the third camera. The Swann online support has actually been very good (suggest using the live chat function); persisting through several checks until the issue was identified and resolved. It 6 months later and I have had an issue with one camera needing to be power cycled regularly (once a month); which is a pain because the get the power connection requires unscrewing it from the eaves. I have emailed Swann and hope the good customer service continues - we will see. There does seem to be reliability issues, but the support has been good and the app (including new upgrades) is nice, easy to navigate and well featured. All cameras are mains powered but only wifi connected - not using the Ethernet cables. The cabling is one pa mage for power and Ethernet and is either short or very long; shame you can’t adjust so in one setup where the camera is too far away for the short connection I do have A LOT of left over cabling to loom and tie up. Overall I would still recommend, especially on price and value for money. Maybe the connection issues have been improved with the new Extreme wireless models; so maybe wait for more reviews and see.
I bought two of these and they both just keep going offline then back online about ten times per day. They have a signal strength of 86%. I then tried putting both of them about eight feet from my wireless router with a signal strength of 100% and they still go offline. Drove me crazy so I turned them off. I spoke with Swann and they could not determine why they are doing this and said to hook them up with an ethernet cable. I bought them to be wireless. You would think Swann might want them back to determine why one of their products is doing this, but they said since I bought them from Amazon they could do nothing for me. I will say the cameras with the External Antenna is great
