I got my new lens about a week ago and must say I was surprised by the quality and performance of the lens. The optics handle the colors and contrast very well. The only concern I have is the not so smooth movement of the mechanism from wide to zoom position.

There are very few things not to like about this lens paired with the Canon M3. It covers the range of the 18-55 and 55-200 in one package. Build quality is superior to the 55-200 and autofocus in most situations is on par with the native Canon lens. The extreme zoom range and build quality come at the expense of a bit of weight, but it's not a deal breaker. At 6.3 max aperture at 200mm it's not a particularly fast lens and autofocus will hunt in low light. Coupled with the fly by wire manual focus it makes it a bit impractical for low light indoor work. As ALL my photography is some form of nature based shooting I couldn't care less about that. For me it's the perfect lens for exploring new locations as you will always have a focal length to suit almost all ... MoreThere are very few things not to like about this lens paired with the Canon M3. I've only had the lens a week or so but am very impressed with the quality of the shots I am getting from it over its whole range 18mm-200mm. I originally wanted a 55mm-200mm but was disappointed in the Canon design (plastic bayonet mount, so so reviews) which is not available in the US anyway. The Tamron 18-200mm does a darn good job over the whole range (examples Tamron in flickr group Canon EOS M & M2 - mirrorless). I think it will be perfect travel lens with one superzoom lens covering everything and doing a good job with daytime wildlife photographs. Although probably as big a lens as I would want on the EOS M, it is light weight enough and well-balanced. Construction looks very good, (metal bayonet mount). The focus is as fast as my Canon lenses, or faster, ... MoreI've only had the lens a week or so but am very impressed with the quality of the shots I am getting from it over its whole range 18mm-200mm. The focus is as fast as my Canon lenses, or faster, and the VC image stabilization is extremely good, perhaps better than that on the Canon 18-55mm. I strongly recommend it but for a thorough professional review see dustinabbott.net which influenced me to buy it. Everything I've seen so far is quite consistent with that review with its strong recommendation.

A newbie to the camera world! Paired this with the sony a6600 and I'm in love! Pictures look great thus far. Looking forward to becoming more familiar and comfortable with photography! Plan on bringing this to Africa in October!
This lens addresses the biggest need for most amateur photographers; you want a lightweight camera system you can take anywhere, hiking, family outings, events, etc, but you don't want to keep changing lenses. This is a great, sharp lens and a good compromise over the art quality of the higher end lenses. Face it, you're not going to find an all in one that doesn't have a bit of distortion, even in the $2K+ range. But the reality is that you're also not going to capture the candid shots and opportunities if your system is so bulky, you only bring it out on special occasions. That's why this is a great compromise. It is lightweight. It is comfortable around the neck, and you can easily carry it with you all day. That's why this is a great compromise. It is lightweight. It is comfortable around the neck, and you can easily carry it with you all day. The auto-focus is a bit slower than the Sony lenses, which is the only downside. The zoom is manual, but it is smooth. Slight barrel effect at wide angle, but you can fix that in Lightroom or other programs if it is an issue. You might miss some shots with the slower auto focus, but I've been very surprised and happy with the results. And again, I get a lot more good shots with this lens than I would ever get toting and switching lenses. Certainly there is a place for those as well, but for the price and convenience, this is really a must.
This lens is "ok." It's standout feature is cramming a large focal range into a very compact package, and it does this very well. It's also fairly well made, solid and heavy for its size. I was not blown away by the image quality. It is decent enough for things that will beviewed on small format social media, but will struggle to produce images that will impress in larger formats or that will withstand aggressive cropping. If avoiding lens changes is more of a prioritythan superlative image quality, this lens may fit the bill.
I just received the Canon EOS M5 with the 15-45 lens. That just didn’t have enough ‘reach’ for my taste. Looked at the options from Canon, either the 18-150 or the 55-200. I didn’t want to carry two lenses all of the time so the 55-200 was out, and the Tamron 18-200 price was the same as the Canon 18-150, but had more reach, so gave it a whirl. Other than the usual EOS M trouble with getting focus lock, I have found the Tamron lens to be all I was looking for. Thus far, in the short time I have had it, the pictures, when properly focused look pretty good regardless of the zoom level. Understand, this is not the same as the larger EOS lenses, but quite good for a much more compact package. I see no reason to ‘short change yourself’ and limit yourself to only the ... MoreI just received the Canon EOS M5 with the 15-45 lens. That just didn’t have enough ‘reach’ for my taste. Please keep in mind I haven't shot a ton with this lens yet. While I can corroborate other reviews stating that the auto-focus can be finicky in low-light settings, I knew that going into the purchase, and it's otherwise been great. Even though the aperture isn't super wide, the depth of field is not so deep that I can't achieve a more dramatic look when shooting subjects, and, in normal lighting, it's still fast enough to capture movement crisply (I've been using the Aperture Priority mode on my camera). I'm shooting with a Sony A6000 (ASP-C sensor). This seemed like the best bang for my buck given the effective lens length. I'm not a pro. Just some dude who wants to take decent pictures, hopefully at enough of a distance to get more candid shots. The build ... MorePlease keep in mind I haven't shot a ton with this lens yet. Bought this from getting a lot of use from the Tamron 18-270 on my DSLRs for many years. When I got the Canon M-5, that lens with the adapter was too big and heavy. This one is a lot lighter, of course, but the lens performance is just as good - maybe better. The competing Canon lens sells for exactly the same amount, but delivers 18-150, not 18-200. A couple of design complaints get it down from 5 stars. Both are easily worked around, but it shouldn't be necessary to do that. I have normal-sized male fingers. The barrel comes close to the camera hand grip, and my right hand middle finger rubs the sharp edge of the lens barrel. I've taken to using a small bandage on either my finger or the barrel edge to soften it up. That happened also with the adapter but was unexpected on this custom lens. And the typical Tamron lens creep is there in this one just like the DSLR one. I solved that on both cameras by using a wide rubber band around the barrel, set across the gap between rotating and fixed parts. I adjust its position to get just the right amount of friction to hold the zoom adjustment in place, still out of the way of the FL marks. It's a shame the Tamron lens locks don't permit any locking except fully closed because the weight of the lens tilts the camera nose-down and the lens quickly runs out to 200. However, if you're zooming during a video shoot you want the lens to do it smoothly, so you can just move the rubber band a little. This isn't a new fix - there's been a product around for years just like this - for a lot more money. When I opened the package and mounted it on the camera I got a error message and the camera shut down. I found (on my own) that the lens was released long before the M5, so Tamron hadn't updated the lens firmware yet. I packed it off to Tamron Repair and a week later it was working. They also restarted the great 6-year warranty instead of making it 90 days because of being in the shop. Good and courteous service as before.
focal length is good if you don't want to carry multiple lenses when traveling, but the aperture size does limit you to shoot on great lighting conditions. if you just started on photography with interchangeable lenses, this is great for the price!
