I really questioned this product since I have always used Nikon products. I wanted to have an all-in-one lens without having to constantly change lens. The price was inticing compared to the same in Nikon. After receiving the product I used it for the first time for a one year old birthday party using the wide angle and zooming in for action shots. I was truly satisified with the results. Gtreat not having to change lens and loose time in getting the shots I want. Tamron has developed a great product and giving 6 years warranty is also something to think about plus a rebate to help the purchase. Glad I dealth with B H Photo to explaing this great product before the purchase. Their input was a great help and support. As yet can't say anything negative about the product.

I've only had the lens for a short time, but I can already tell it was the right purchase for me. I love taking pictures while traveling and exploring new places. I tend to focus on things like flowers, animals, scenery, buildings/architechure, candids and some macro. I have a Nikon D60 and have primarly used my 18-55 and 55-200 kit lenses (but I do also have a 12-24 wide angle). I've been fine with my kit lenses in the past, but I've mostly found that switching lenses and wanting more range has been frustrating. I want functionality and simplicity. This lens gives me EXACTLY that. This lens gives me EXACTLY that. The convenience of carrying one lens and the ability to get a wide angle of a city street (@18) and then turn around and immediately get some macro detail with the full zoom is what its all about for me. On a whale watching trip in the past I was constantly frustrated with needing the wide angle when the whales were close and the zoom when they drifted away. Changing lenses while running around on a boat is not a good way to enjoy yourself at all. This lens would have been amazing on that trip! I'm really looking forward to my next big vacation and using this lens. As you read the other reviews, you'll quickly see that if you want a lens for portraits or fast shutter speed with low light, this will not be your lens. I personally do not care for doing portraits and studio/indoor photography. I have always been most intersted in shooting outside with available light. I spent a little time with a wonderful 50mm 1.4 lens and while the lens was fast and the clarity was stunning, it simply could not make up for the fact that if 50mm as not the zoom that I needed, I would miss the type of shots that I wanted to capture no mater how fast the lens was, especially while traveling in urban environments. I brought my camera and this lens to a wedding this past weekend and I'm quite happy with what I was able to get. The convenience of having a single lens may even drive me to get an external flash and enjoy a bit more indoor photography. Remember, I'm comparing back to a couple of kit lenses ... I'm not a pro and I'm not looking at really close detail, but for the few 8x10s that I print and the photobooks I'm starting to put together, this will be perfect. I think I'm also glad I got the newer/smaller version of this lens. It doesn't seem much bigger than my 55-200 kit and when collapsed it fits into my small camera/single lens bag easily. It also fits into my larger purse without much trouble - which is another really nice perk. As a side note, the focal distance is also short enough that I can pull it back to 18mm, flip the camera around and still do my own candid self portraits. :) Its a silly thing but sometimes thats the only way I can get pictures of myself and I can still do that with this lens. Some other reviews complained about the Vibration Reduction causing blur but I have not seen this. I took over 300 pictures in this last weekend and the lens functioned great. My blurry pictures are a result of low light and an unsteady hand. The zoom ring isn't too loose on mine so I haven't really seen any problems with the lens collapsing back to 18 when pointed up or pulling out to 270 when pointed down. It may have happened while I was walking around with the lens, but not while I was in the process of taking pictures. It may loosen over time, but so far it works well for me.

3 YEARS AGO I BOUGHT A Nikon D300 and wanted a lenses that was as versatile as the type of shooting I was doing. I went to a specialty camera store and was shown the Tampon 18-270 lens. I tried several lenses that day and the Tamron was easier to use than any other including the Nikor comparative lens. I loved this lens. Last spring I dropped my camera out of my car it fell straight down on the lens with the cap off. It bent the uv filter into the lens and forced the lens out of alignment. I wasn't able to send it off to be repaired so I carefully got it back into alignment enough to start moving again and used it for the next 9 months on automatic as well as manual. Although my ratio of clear pix went down from 9 out of 10 to 6 out of 10 it still served me well all ... I promised to shoot a graduation last fall so I bought a Nikor lens and shot with it for about a month. This was one with the motor so it was manual and automatic and as close to the Tamron as I could get. WOW, what a disappointment! I compared shots for quality, number of in focus and out of focus etc and my damaged Tamron was still better than the new Nikor! At the end of the year I decided to purchase an upgraded camera as well lens. After a great deal of shopping I found NOTHING that was available in my price range any better than the Tamron. So, I bought another 18-270 :D, it now graces my Nikon D800. I also bought a Tamron 200-500 as I shoot quite a bit of wildlife, especially birds. WOW! So, my old Tamron is off being worked on, as well as my old D300 as it also took some damage on that fall and my new friends are happily shooting together. I was sorry to see some folks that had problems with their Tamron, overall I think theirs was the exception not the rule. YES, I WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO ANY LEVEL PHOTOGRAPHER :D

I bought the Tamron AF18-270mm as a walk-around lens when I don't want to carry with me the pro equipment I own. Of course, one must forget about the Pro quality but this lens is well built, quite solid, I didn't have the need to use the Lock Lens switch for preventing from the lens creep problem I read about. The incredible zoom range of this lens is a travel photographer's dream, from the same position one can shoot a beautiful panorama at the wide end and yet zoom in to fill the frame with details on subjects very far away. The image quality is good (not excellent) in the center but it progressively gets worse towards the edges/corners, even at the best aperture (f5.6-f8). The barrel distortion at the wide end, expected from a lens with such a wide focal range, is really not acceptable, especially in architectural photography and shooting interiors. However used in combination with Adobe Lightroom, I was able to adjust the distortion with just one click (profile correction) and the results were absolutely stunning. Heavy distortion disappeared completely; on the other hand one must keep in mind that some parts at the edges of the photo taken will disappear once the correction is applied. Before the correction, at most focal lengths, the straight lines won't be straight. Vignetting, purple fringing and chromatic aberration are also easily corrected via software. Honestly, without Lightroom I would have returned the lens. The Vibration Reduction allowed me to shoot sharp images at the Telephoto end (270mm) handheld at shutter speeds of 1/100th and 1/80th. I compared the 18-270 with the inexpensive Nikkor 18-55mm f3.5-5.6g (non VR) and the basic Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro (non VR) and in both cases at all apertures the separate lenses performed better than the 18-270mm. Overall if one is willing to accept the limits of this lens and the good image quality, will enjoy it very much especially because of the pleasure of not having to carry extra lenses around and having to switch lenss back and forth.
I LOVE it!! I had considered the Nikon 55-300 and Sigma 18-250 also. This lens looked like the better option. I am so happy I chose this. Taken lots of shots and really impressed! Focuses really quickly (33% faster than my kit lenses), really sharp and was amazed my on-camera flash covers the full frame. I have a Nikon D5200 and it complements it perfectly. It bought a used one which is in like new condition. I also like that it is a weighty lens which matches the camera body's weight really well. I took some shots with on-board flash and was amazed that the flash covered all areas. The VR is great. Took some shots at 1/60th second and they are nice and sharp. The lens creep is crazy from 55mm on, lol!! but I can live with that. AF motor is really quiet.
I am getting back into photography after many years - my last serious camera was a Minolta XE1 35 mm. I purchased a Nikon body but was unhappy with 18-55mm lens that came with it - it wasn't flexible enough to handle general needs of people portraits, candids, and landscapes. I tried a moderately priced Nikon zoom which took excellent pictures but was short to mid telephoto and couldn't take a wide angle shot. I disliked carrying two lenses and switching them. After some research I settled upon the Tamron, which was at a good price point and has both wide angle and moderate telephoto capabilities. I'm happy with the purchase so far. I don;t have to change lenses to get the pictures I want. I was at a party with family and children and was able to get pictures of large groups and candids of individuals without being obtrusive. I was a little concerned about picture quality - it turns out that the pictures look sharp and clear at any magnification. The lens is easy to use and the autofocus is smooth and fast, just pick the focal lens and the lens does the rest. The lens is light and short, making it easy to carry, point and swing - it's MUH lighter than a Nikon zoom lens I had. I've used the Tamron for a couple of months now and have enjoyed it immensely - I will continue touse it as my go to lens and don;t see any reason why I would want another.
I bought a Nikon D5300 to replace an aging Nikon D80. I shoot wildlife with the D80 and always use a Nikon 70-300 lens, so I put the old lens on the new, lightweight body. The images from this combination were superb (all things considered at this price point), but the heavy lens seemed unbalanced on the new body, so I decided to get a lighter long lens. The Tamron AF18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD AF got a number of pretty good reviews, so I bought one and swapped out the 70-300. What a difference a lens makes! While the Tamron is compact, light, and feels nicely balanced on the D5300, I am very disappointed with the image quality. At the long end (towards 270mm), the Tamron has trouble keeping focus. While the Tamron is compact, light, and feels nicely balanced on the D5300, I am very disappointed with the image quality. At the long end (towards 270mm), the Tamron has trouble keeping focus. The Piezo Drive ultrasonic autofocus motor often has trouble as it bounces back and forth in and out of focus, even when I am shooting on something rather large (like a goose on a pond at 25 feet). Shooting with the piezo vibrating results in mostly out of focus images. Focusing on birds in trees produces a similar problem, but focusing through branches always causes problems. At wide angle (towards the 18mm end), the lens takes very nice photos without any focus issues, but I have gotten some vignetting, but it isn't bad. When I finally get the photos on the computer, the vast majority of telephoto shots suffer from soft focus and grainy texture (even with aperture and ISO adjusted). A few photos come out very well, as well as with the old 70-300, but if I can't count on getting good focus on something, what is the point of the lens? Tomorrow I'm going back to a different duck pond where I know the lighting will be bright and the ducks habituated to humans. I'll try the two lenses, one after the other, and make a decision about keeping the Tamron lens. From what I've seen so far, I think this lens is going back to B&H. For people who mostly want to take shots towards the 18mm end of the range, this lens might be good enough for a few shots at 270mm, but if the intended use primarily is towards the long end, I'd skip this lens.
I got this as a replacement for my Nikon AF-S DX 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II which bit the dust (literally) on a trip (literally) in Moab Utah. I really haven't used the Tamron much since receiving it but it seems pretty good to me. I'm not a Pro but love doing concert photos and will be interested in seeing how this will do at the festivals next summer. The extra punch in the tele end will be nice as I like to 'shoot 'em in the head'. Some reviews complain about the weight but according to the specs it seems to be about 4oz lighter than the Nikon and will seem like a featherweight when compared to my Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 which I carry for hours with a Clik Elite Wrist Strap (buy this item,,, you'll love it). This lens is a fantastic walk around lens...it is not quite as tack sharp as a Nikon prime lens...but it is sharp enough. I have purchased four of these lenses for grandchildren of mine who have an interest in photography. It meets their needs from everything from butterflies, flowers, sports, landscapes, and some portraiture. This lens has good color rendition, nice background fades, and reasonable edge to edge sharpness. When they master some techniques...they can move to Nikon glass. I also keep one around for me and use it often. And no, i do not work for Tamron...i just like their product.
I have a Nikon D3300 that came with an 18-55mm lens and a 55-200mm lens. I bought this lens because I have a couple vacations coming up and I wanted the simplicity of an all in one type lens, so that I wasn't constantly switching lenses, and I also wanted the extra zoom capabilities. My first impression is that I'm rather disappointed with this lens and I'm seriously considering returning it. Not even taking into consideration photo quality, the zoom of this lens is not accurate. Comparing photos taken with my Nikon lens at 200mm and this lens at 270mm, the level of zoom is exactly the same! I confirmed this by borrowing a friend's Nikon 55-300mm lens. At 250mm and 300mm on the Nikon lens I am zoomed in closer to the subject then when this Tamron lens is set to 270mm. I can see no acceptable reason for a discrepancy like this and I'm very disappointed.
