Our dog Gonit (dog gone it), has food allergies. The symptoms always manifested in itchy skin and dull coat. He has not had an itch or dull, dry coat since we switched to Taste of the Wild- High Prairie. I am so thankful for Taste of the Wild, I have an almost 14 year old Shar Pei who has had awful allergies since I rescued her at 3 months. I tried all different types of dog food over the years, but she kept having reactions. The vet suggested putting her on steroids, but I know they are really not good for long term use, can damage kidney function., and Shar Pei breed are already known to have kidney failure as a health issue. I was at my wits end and then I heard about Taste of the Wild. I slowly introduced it to my girl, and immediately I noticed a reduction of her itching, scratching, and stomach issues. Now that she has been on this food, I can't say her allergies are completely resolved, but at least down by 85% , her coat is softer, she has her spunk back, ... Well recently it has been becoming a hassle to make her food every few days and it gets pretty pricey for all the different proteins and supplements that she needs so I figured we'd try dry kibble out. She began losing hair around her eyes and she was super lethargic. We took her to the vet and they said it was seasonal allergies but the medication they prescribed didn't help at all. We tried Allegra and that also did nothing. All of this happened in a matter of about a week so I thought it might be the food and within a day and a half of switching back to the food I make, she was completely back to normal. I'm sure this is a great food for some pets but be wary if your dog has sensitive skin/a sensitive stomach.

He currently is suffering from dementia and sundowners. But even before he became old and confused, getting Mike to eat was not easy. We do cycle through a few varieties of TOTW but High Prairie is our go to. He eats this with chicken or bison we cook especially for him, sprinkled with either smoked gouda, pecorino or American cheese, not cheddar, not colby jack, with a splash of bone broth heated for exactly 37 seconds. He truly is the Gordon Ramsey of dogs. But if he eats, we call it a win and celebrate. All our other dogs are hounds and would literally eat the bag TOTW came in so they endorse all ... We started feeding Red (at the time a 2 year old redbone coonhound) Taste Of The Wild back in early 2018. After less than a year of feeding this Red was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy (enlarged heart disease). Don’t just read reviews and trust every dog food brand. Red had no health conditions and had the possibility to live a long and happy life. That was taken away because of Taste Of The Wild. I miss my dog so much and will never be able to accept the time I lost with him. If you love your dog, don’t feed Taste Of The Wild.
We had been feeding our two labs a different brand of food and then we got a puppy who would absolutely not eat the food! We switched varieties of that same brand and he still turned up his nose. We made the switch to taste of the wild after some research to be sure it was super high quality (which it is!) We wanted to go with an even better option than the previous brand we were buying. The ingredients list is quite impressive! I'm happy to report the puppy and his older siblings LOVED this food! He went from turning up his nose of the old brand to nearly inhaling his taste of the wild! When they see us walk in with the bug yellow bag they almost knock us over lol bc they know we have the good stuff!
I always research dog food through the Dog Food Advisor website, before purchasing something new. This recipe has been given a 5 out of 5 stars on their website, for quite some time. From looking at the ingredients, there seems to be only 1 controversial item in this recipe- tomato pomace (#13 on the ingredients list.) I am not a canine nutritionist so I cannot authoritatively praise or denigrate this ingredient, but I note that it's position on the list probably makes it not much of an issue one way or another. On the pro side, I like the fact that taurine is included in the recipe. This gives me some comfort that my Golden Retriever is getting an important amino acid he needs to keep his heart healthy. Our dog can be a picky eater, but she continues to finish at least one meal a day one month out.Our vet still recommends that we stick with a premium big-brand dry food, however. She says that the provenance on the ingredients is more reliable, the quality control is high, and there are only 3 US companies who do any research on their dry ... My last two Huskies have both been "adopted". My first was 5 years old when I got her. She had been kept in a small pen that was full of mud and other gross things. I continued feeding her Taste of the Wild because of how well my previous Husky had fared. She is now a fully grown Husky checking in at a healthy 55 pounds. No fat and I get constant compliments of how shiny her coat is. I tell everyone it's the food I feed her and tell them it's called Tast of the Wild.
I recently adopted a dog who had been put on this food by their foster family, so I decided to keep her on it. Towards the end of her time with them (1 week), she started having accidents inside. After I brought her home her potty training regressed to the point she was having 3-5 accidents inside a day and peeing 30+ times a day outside. She was also drinking 10-15 cups of water a day. By week two she was practically incontinent - unable to hold it for 30 minutes and soiling her crate.After 3x trips to the vet, two rounds of antibiotics, complete bloodwork, urine tests, hundreds of dollars had been spent and nothing came back with any clues as to what was wrong. We were considering an ultrasound and urine culture.Then I decided to taper her off this food and ... There was IMMEDIATE improvement, even just by swapping out 25% of this for something else. The vet thinks it was causing Fanconi Syndrome. Now she is totally off it, there are more accidents inside, no more accidents at night, and she is like a whole different dog!She is still drinking a lot but hopefully there won’t be lasting damage. I feel so bad I was feeding this to her and causing her so much discomfort.
