Pycnogenol is a natural plant extract derived from the pine bark of French maritime pine trees. It contains procyanidins, bioflavonoids and organic acids that work in synergy to rejuvenate the skin, with the aim of enhancing skin hydration and elasticity. With the ability to selectively bind to collagen and elastin, Pycnogenol protects these proteins from degradation, helping to nourish the skin from the inside out. Being a unique and powerful antioxidant, Pycnogenol scavenges for free radicals before they cause damage by oxidative stress. It can also recycle oxidized Vitamin C to restore its activity. The Ordinary Pycnogenol 5% is free of artificial colours. The formulas deep red colour is due to the high procyanidin content in Pycnogenol. Directions Apply alone or after water-based serums, before oils or heavier creams. Alternatively, mix with other treatments to enhance their antioxidant capacity. Wash hands after application and avoid product contact with fabric as it may stain.

I am only 23 going on 24 but noticed some slight wrinkling in my face (mostly forehead) and omg can I tell you how horrified I was to see signs of aging in the mirror! It apparently also offers some UV protection and I am going to order some pycnogenol as a oral supplement due to its studied medical properties. Like seriously look up how versatile this stuff is, helps your circulatory system, joint pain, mental clarity, etc. Not that this skin serum will do all that, but I cant believe I had never heard of this stuff before. What a GEM! I even started making my bf use it too I love it so much

I love the colour, the texture, the smell (it's not bad at all) and it makes my skin feel soooooooo good. I am particularly drawn to its antioxidant properties and I especially love how it stimulates the body to naturally produce Hyaluronic acid (Rob discusses this in the video) so it is plumping and hydrating from the inside out, not just the outside in when I apply my HA serum. I squeeze TO HA Moisturiser into the palm of my hand, then mix about 3 drops of Pycnogenal and smooth over my face and neck. Feels wonderful. Mix with Amino Acid
30 March 2023

I asked my friend for some skincare advice, since I was 40 years old and still using bar soap and no lotion on my face. I know, I know. She was actually appalled but impressed with how my skin was holding up. Anyways, this was the first TO product she turned me onto. I wasn't overly impressed, but I did like the other TO products I ordered. Ended up getting Amino Acid + B5 with my second order, which is a very sticky serum. Found that I could mix it with this and IT'S AWESOME! This somehow makes the Amino Acid less sticky, but allows both to absorb better. Anyways, my skin has never looked or feel better! I use Marine Hyaluronics, then 2 drops of this with 5 drops Amino Acid, followed by a good moisturizer (w/o HA). Works wonders! Not For Me :(

I bought this product because I read about the skincare benefits of Pycnogenol and saw all the rave reviews here on Sephora about this version from The Ordinary. It feels almost like a facial oil (because of the propanediol base) but I didn’t find that it absorbed well. It more or less just sat on top of my skin and kept my moisturizers from absorbing (yes I followed the instructions about when to apply it in my routine). Mixing it with my moisturizer seemed like a feasible fix so I tried that as well, but had the same end result. When I used it at night, whether on its own or mixed with a cream, I woke up with my skin feeling dry and dehydrated. When I used it in the mornings, it felt moisturizing at first and gave my skin a nice glow…but then my face would begin to feel dry by early afternoon (which isn’t a problem I typically have, I usually get a bit oily in my T-zone by then). I halted using it for a night to see if it was the issue, and sure enough my skin felt back to normal the next morning. Me being me, I had to try one more time, so the next evening I used it in my nighttime routine and woke up the next day feeling dehydrated yet again. Needless to say, I discontinued it completely after that. It has an unpleasant smell but it only lasts for a second and then dissipates. All in all, this was a no for me. I’m going to research more and try some other serums with French Maritime Pine Bark Extract to see if my skin just doesn’t like that ingredient or maybe just didn’t like this formulation? One good thing is, a little goes a long way so the 15ml size should still last a while. Skincare is so personal, it’s really all about trial and error, finding what works and doesn’t. I just don’t think my skin digs this product very much.

Omg I love this
12 January 2023

Not exaggerating here, but this might be the best skincare product I’ve ever tried (and this is a high bar because imo azelaic acid is the greatest invention of all time). Jokes aside, I was honestly blown away by the change I’ve seen after only using this for a fairly short time. My skin feels super smooth and plumper and the texture has improved a lot. It’s also very hydrating. It doesn’t do as much for active breakouts and fading scars than some other products from The Ordinary (the above mentioned azelaic acid remains king for that), but I’m getting to an age where I’ve started to feel I should be doing more to prevent future wrinkles and working on skin health and hydration, and pycnogenol is simply perfect for that. One of The Ordinary's Weirder Products - But WOW!
18 November 2022

This is one of The Ordinary's more unusual products. It is a strange orange-red colour, it looks a bit like that old fashioned Betadine they used to put on your cuts when you fell over at school. It also smells odd - I can't put my finger on what it smells like, but while strange it is not too unpleasant. The consistency when it is applied is thin and oily. It is also more expensive than most of The Ordinary's products. So far it doesn't sound so great right? But give it a try - the results are SPECTACULAR! Firm, soft, plump, glowing skin next morning.I use it every night with The Ordinary's Hyaluronic Acid, then Lactic Acid, then Pycnogenol, finished off with a thin layer of prescription Differin. My skin - I am 50 - looks absolutely beautiful!

This actually works.
7 February 2023

I've bought 3 bottle so far and I have to say this is one of the few skin care products I've bought that has had a noticeable and positive impact on my skin. I started to get questions and compliments about my routine after starting to use this. I prefer put it on in the PM every other night alternating between a retinol. I find that it works best after a shower when your pores are open. It works so well that I never feel the need to moisturize afterwards but I will put squalene on after on dry days. It does leave a minor tint on your face so keep that in mind if you want to put it on in the mornings. Also the reddish hue stains very badly so make sure not to drip it on anything. I wish they made a larger size. But I would have to recommend this product.

Underrated
1 February 2023

I love this product, been part of my daily routine for almost a month. I use it in combination with 100% Cold Pressed Borage Oil and the difference in my skin is amazing. It's brighter, smoother and feels so hydrated. Dry areas have disappeared and no breakouts which can happen when I start using something new in my skincare. I have a lot of issues with products being perfumed and having unnecessary ingredients added, they cause a riot on my face. It does have a strong smell but it doesn't bother me, it's a natural, earthy smell that doesn't last long and I'd rather have that than some fragrance that's going to irritate my skin. Because it's a very dark colour I tried to mix it in with my moisturiser but found it more effective when I added it direct to my skin. I let it settle in for at least 5 mins before I add my borage oil on top and the combo is my holy grail. I don't hear many people talking about Pycnogenol so it's a shame it's so underrated.

Wish I'd Started Using Pychnogenol 5% Sooner!
21 July 2022

I bought Pychnogenol 5% about 2 weeks ago, and I'm already noting such a difference. I have oily skin, but it has a hard time retaining moisture. Not anymore! A few drops (three) is all I need, and it leaves my skin looking and feeling amazing. The moisture *lasts.* And more than that, my skin looks plump and glossy, and the few fine lines I have are definitely minimized. It's especially noticeable around the hollows of my eyes and the tops of my cheeks. My skin has *never* looked better. After using this on my face (I mix three drops with a small dollop of Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA), I'll use the remainder on my hands, and I can't even begin to describe what a difference I've noticed there as well. I wash my hands a lot, and they also get dry very easily, even with regular moisturizing. But they look and feel so soft after I started including Pychnogenol 5%. It sounds crazy, but they look younger. Honestly wish I could dunk my whole body in this product. I'll try to do a check-in after a few months, but I needed to say how much I love and appreciate this product so far. I have sensitive skin, but I tolerate it without any issue. I don't leave reviews very often, but I felt I needed to for this. Some people complain about a smell, but I honestly don't notice anything, at least not with only three drops mixed into Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA. It absorbs well, too, so I haven't had any issues with staining. If I had to pick only one Ordinary product to use for the rest of my life, it would be Pychnogenol 5%, no question. Best addition to my routine, hands down. WELL worth it for me.
