The Outer worlds is nothing incredible. The plot is tired, the characters are boring, you can't meaningfully interact with virtually all characters and the combat/exploration of the game is repetitive from the first minute. But it is stable, gets all the mechanics to work fine and you are not unduly limited by the design of the game.Honestly, the experience is weirdly similar to modern MMO's. The maps are mostly empty with groups of NPCs just waiting at multiple points around it to provide you with something to attack. All NPC's for you to attack have no differences. They all have the same type of attack types and styles. No matter the faction or type. While the character stats are extensive, they don't really provide a different experience to the game.I truly ... MoreThe Outer worlds is nothing incredible. Only hard fans of the genre will be truly happy here.

Fun gameplay, good writing, enjoyable characters.I'm just finishing up my first play through, and I took my time, so have hit about 37 hours this time through. I already know I want to change some of my skills & attributes for my next time through, and am looking forward to playing a different type of character. I've had several other games waiting to be played, but haven't been able to put this one down - and I'm really thinking of playing through again now rather than starting something else.Visually - the game looks very distinctive - it can't be mistaken for something else.Gameplay - while you might get tired of fighting the same types of enemies after a while - if you're trying to play through without killing anyone, it gives a pretty cool challenge. You can mod your weapons so they do more damage, have different effects, become really good for sniping or hitting things, etc. Really though - it's all about the story, and I've done a few things where I saved, made a choice, and then revised & chose differently - it's cool to see the outcomes from the choices you make affecting how your story goes. The characters in this game really are well done. There are a couple that I absolutely love - and don't want to disappoint, there are a few that I absolutely hated, but that I then learned more about & felt a bit different. It's cool because there's more to ALMOST everyone than meets the eye.If you want the best FPS - don't buy this. It's only good there. If you want something that's fun & rewards you for your play style - absolutely pick this game up.

Fun and definitely worthwhile. How you build your character and the decisions you make matter. I've spent many hours playing across every difficulty level so my critique is about how a good game could have been better. The fact that I've played this game multiple times is a testament to its replayability based on the different possible story outcomes.Itemization is nonsensical. Rare and unique items are inferior to common items at every point of the game. Common items are moddable and unique items are not. This is a strange handicap for items that are supposed to be special. This handicap renders them obsolete before they have even been acquired. The second issue is about how the game tries to incentivize exploration. Behind every nook and cranny, there is some random inconsequential box of ammo or merchant fodder. The tease of eventually finding something worthwhile is never realized. It's a never-ending tease. The hard reality is that there is nothing of value to find. It's 4 bits and 20 ammo every time. On the odd jackpot, you'll find a unique weapon that is inferior to anything you already use.

I described 'The Outer Worlds' to my friends like "playing in the world of Firefly." Not that the characters are the same, but the retro future setting, the charm, and the wit of that excellent, short-lived series are all here. Gameplay is as familiar and fun as anything you'll find in a modern role-playing game, from Skyrim to Fallout to Mass Effect. The familiar gameplay loop of combat, exploration, crafting and more is pretty much here, and executed well. What elevates "The Outer Worlds" to something you should play is the outstanding characters and the rich storyline. There's only a couple ways the overall story can end, but how you get there is definitely fun. That being said, now that I've finished the game I'm not compelled to play it over again, at least not ... MoreI described 'The Outer Worlds' to my friends like "playing in the world of Firefly." The writing and story is this game's main strength. There are a lot of funny interactions with npcs and you get to build a posse of characters to hang out and go adventuring with from your 'base' ship. The graphics are okay but not nearly as good as they should be for this late stage in the ps4. Game play mechanics are okay as well but I found myself missing the more responsive controls during combat. Movement feels a bit 'floaty'Sometimes I felt myself missing the more interesting weapons of other sci-fi rpg games like Borderlands 2/3. There are some cool weapons you can get but in my opinion they aren't as useful as they should be. Still a great game despite a few weaknesses.
Very deliered rapid as usal. Great service. The lack of stars is due to the game itself being a bit of a let down. I was under the impression you get to travel to different worlds. So i thought there would be some space adventure to this game. Instead its a basic sandbox game. Very limited exploration compared to fallout maps. I skipped most dialogue as it was a bit boring and same old. Every quest requires you to visit someone who gives you a quest to do before you finish the quest you were sent on. Monsters/ animals, seem to be the same characteristics on every world you fly to by loading screen. Completed, but wont be playing again. Huge let down by the creators, but very did great with delivery. I feelbad giving 3 stars as very have done nothing wrong, but the ... MoreVery deliered rapid as usal. Great service. I was late to the party buying this, so im not sure what 'full price - day 1' was. But this game is so good, the eye to detail, the story, the characters.. The character attribute side of things, the 'dlc' (sadface, more money) content that makes the already pretty big game even bigger. Its just good. If you like space, guns, exploration and adventure, my guy (girl..toaster?), this is for you.
Borderlands fans will like Outer Worlds. The game is probably a notch below in quality than Borderlands, but it has several attractive features that take it beyond just a simple first-person shooter. For instance, you have to go slow and accumulate the power to move forward, or you'll be stuck in a loop of being constantly killed by enemies who can fight you off easily. I'd recommend this game for players who may be numbed by the mindless carnage of war games and who like to plan and manage the outcome without the nuclear option. I rated this game 4 out 5 stars because it slows down play for reloading after your character inevitably dies. Also, it gets a bit confusing with all the options for weapons upgrades and ammunition stocks where 150 shots can be depleted at ... MoreBorderlands fans will like Outer Worlds. Note there is a patch in the works that may alleviate some of this when it comes out.The Outer Worlds on switch is easily the worst of the 4 versions. The textures and graphics are not great. Very blurry especially on handheld. Sometimes they do not even load in and we get the untextured objects. A lot of the objects have been removed to make it run better on switch but unfortunately to the extent thst it affects the atmosphere.Performance on the other hand is not bad at first but as you go along it gradually gets worse and you will be getting frequent frame drops. There are also pauses while playing while it loads. Sometimes thst does not happen and enemies just load in right in front of you.The game itself is a really good game but it is marred with the ... MoreNote there is a patch in the works that may alleviate some of this when it comes out.The Outer Worlds on switch is easily the worst of the 4 versions. If you can you probably better off getting the PS4, Xbox One or PC version if you have access to those consoles. Though if you do not if you can look past these issues you can still have a good time but I would recommend the switch port of Witcher 3 over it.
it feels like all the elements of a great game are here: well written characters, funny dialogue, balanced quests, unique enemies. But its just missing something. the weapon upgrade system is a little more complicated than necessary, the plot lines dont really tie together in a meaningful way, I just didn't feel emotionally invested in my character. obsidians excellent game crafting is evident in this title, but it feels a bit rushed. It's an experience i greatly enjoyed and would recommend but probably will never play again
