This banno knife follows a traditional design, making it a great all-purpose knife, perfect for covering any eventuality in a Japanese kitchen. Unlike more specialist Japanese knives, the banno is a great multi-purpose knife, ideal for cutting vegetables, meat or fish. This banno knife has a strong steel blade, with a ‘double-bevel’, meaning that it’s sloped on either side – perfect for a clean cut. The traditional banno blade is also quite tall, to ensure good control and stability when chopping. A beautiful, well-balanced banno, perfect for keen Japanese cooks.

The wood's glued to the paper, removing it from the paper it takes a chunk out of the wood with it. Knife is sharp out of the box... shame about the handle.

Very nice kitchen knife. Lighter than I expected as well. Shaped like a blend of a santoku and a western chefs knife
Knife received was made in China not Japan as advertised. It's a fake San Mei or laminated knife. Just a grey paint replicating the laminated look and fairly poorly. Quite a waste of time.
Blade of the knife is painted with different color to look like forged and item had manufacturing fault in the blade. It had bit of dip in the middle of the blade edge which makes it hard to use as it won't cut food completely. it is cheap knife so didn't expect much but handle is really light compared to blade.
I love this knife. It cuts through meat and veg like it almost was not there. I highly recommend this knife. Hocho knife service and response quality are excellent too. Fast shipping even during the covid-19 times. A++
I bought this for my mom for Christmas. The knife itself is beautiful. I haven’t used it, so I can’t speak for it’s sharpness, but the build quality is great too.
So far loving this knife. Blade is still sharp after a week of constant use. Simple knife that feels a little light but very well balanced.
At age 12 I was an exchange student to Japan from the United States. This Knife was made in Niigata where I stayed for a month. An amazing sharp knife made in the city that I visited in 1977. I will buy another one, it is that good.
