I have been wearing Velvet Orchid since it came out. I remember smelling the fragrance insert in a Neiman Marcus catalog and CALLING to order it. Couldn’t order online! Now, that’s a LONG time ago!! LOL! I know this is a love it or hate it fragrance and of course it smells different on everybody, but this definitely works brilliantly with my body chemistry. It's almost nostalgic to me as it has a note somewhere in it that reminds me of something my mom wore called "China Rain" that she used to get from a little shop in Half Moon Bay, CA. It doesn't remind me of her in the sense that it smells like her perfume, but it reminds me of that special time in my life growing up. This is one of those scents that doesn't just smell good, but it makes you feel something. Please, give this one a try. 💜

Once it settles, the floral notes start dancing, such as the Orchid, Gardenia and Ylang Ylang. After a few hours, I find it becomes a bit warmer and softer, maybe rounder. The spiciness dissipates and the Chocolate, Vanilla and Amber linger. I detect a very soft, barely there musk; not your regular “stinging” musk. I find projection/sillage and longevity to be outstanding! It lasts easily 8 to 9 hours on me and even then, I can still detect it as a skin scent. I’d say due to its polarizing effect and uniqueness, this is rather an evening and fall scent, but… I enjoy the opening, the midway through and how it settles so much that I wear it all year around. I simply use it more sparingly during the daytime and in summer.

Unfortunately, this was not the case...the final dry down scent is just as bad. It smells very powdery, spicy, warm, musky with an underlying scent of dying flowers and Incense. To sum it up it smells exactly like a little old lady...not a high-end expensive parfum. I will say that it lasts (Unfortunately) because after scrubbing it off, I can still smell it. I've tried a few different Tom Ford fragrances...I'm still trying to figure out what the big deal is about them?? Is it just the name? Maybe it's just me...maybe Tom Ford fragrances don't mix well with my body chemistry...I don't know. I do know that Black Orchid smelled the same on as it did in the bottle....and that there are much more beautiful fragrances out there. With every high-end name comes a high-end price tag! If I love a fragrance, I have no problem paying whatever it costs. But, I refuse to pay hundreds of dollars for a fragrance that isn't worth the money, just so I can take a few pictures to show off a Tom Ford bottle on my vanity. So, I recommend trying a fragrance before purchasing it! What smells nice on me, might not smell nice on you...and vice-versa.

The dry down reminds me of my childhood Chinese snack, a type of dried sweet salty plum (话梅), and also has a layer of fruity almost citrus scent as well, and still has the feminine floral scent but not boring, they mingle so well that I kept on smelling it throughout the day it’s almost addictive. Overall, if you are into traditional feminine scents then TF is not for you; if you are trying out new things and on the hunt for uniqueness, explore new scents, then TF is for you.

Got home and dolled around with my man’s (I’m gay if that gives me extra points hehe) was kissing on my man and who was ALL OVER ME.So be sure to spray those areas that heat up like behind the ears, inside the elbows, the back of the knees AND LAYER BABY LAYER. Do not be afraid to spray this stuff it LASTS. I’ll do about two layers. Then I’ll spray my décolleté (the chest) a couple of times.
