I repeatedly asked them if they could just send a replacement but they would not budge until they ran all their tests (which was a huge waste of time as it never resulted in improvement). Finally they agreed to send a replacement but was forced to pay shipping in order to get the replacement and in order to do it cheaply I would have to send back first and once they received the product they would then ship a new router. I told them this was not possible because I was working from home due to Covid and needed an internet system in place (even if it was slow) and they still would not budge unless I paid an additional $20 which was half the cost of the router! \n\nIn addition I have a 1700 sq foot house and this router did not have enough coverage and wifi would frequently go out. All in all, I was extremely disappointed with the product and customer service and ended up purchasing a TP-Link instead. I would not recommend this product unless you have a small apartment and are connected via ethernet.

Nice little router with lots of features. Two USB ports that support dongles and mass media with samba sharing or FTP, detachable antennas, separate LAN and WAN ports. Despite looking like plastic the outer shell is aluminium giving it a really luxurious feel, not that you'll be picking it up often anyway. The configuration web page is elder god tier. The settings are all laid out in logical categorisation on the left sidebar at all times. Every page you go to has an easy to understand blurb on what each setting does, while not omitting any important information. When you're dealing with some misconfiguration on a network, these blurbs will save you so much time. But do note that due to EU/US regulations, when you update your firmware you will lose access to most of the channels on the 5Ghz WiFi. Even though on older firmwares you could select your region and be given access to the appropriate channels, they changed the behaviour to just lock you out of all channels but the ones in the 38-46 range (channels normally go up to 158 in most regions). Still, even with this flaw, this is the best router I have ever had to date.

(P.S. It currently has 49,662 4.5 star reviews on Amazon). The good: Setup is quick and easy, its performance on the 5-GHz band is good for its price (ideal for streaming 4K), it has two USB ports for connecting peripherals (eg, create a media server to easily share your USB drive content), 4 Gigabit LAN ports with quick access to multiple connected wired devices (would work great as a gaming router), there’s an on/off switch for wireless transmissions (essentially turning it into a wired router for when you go on vacation and want it to stop broadcasting), it includes parental controls, and the Tether app is great. Also, you can generate a QR code from the router’s admin page, print the code, and put it somewhere easily accessible so that when you have guests over, they can easily connect to the internet by just scanning the code. I’ve had the router for over a month now and have yet to experience any dropped signals. The not-so-good: If you plan on connecting peripherals that require faster data speeds, this router uses the older and slower 2.0 spec, the performance on the 2.4-GHz band is lacking, it doesn’t include automatic firmware updates, and doesn’t have MU-MIMO for efficiently managing network traffic. Also, it lacks Amazon Alexa comparability (this wasn’t a problem for us, but if you want Alexa compatibility, get the nearly-identical Archer A7 AC1750).I Googled its specs:Wi-Fi Spec: 802.11ac/Dual BandNumber of Antennas/Removable: 6/3 are removablePorts: 4 Gbps LAN, 2 USB 2.0Peak 802.11ac performance: 1750 Mbps (450 Mbps for 2.4-GHz, 1,300 Mbps for 5-GHz at 5 feet)Range: 110 feetSize: 1.4- by 9.5- by 6.0-inchesThis was my first TP-Link router and I was impressed with how easy the setup was — it couldn’t have been easier! I have been using this TP-Link Archer C7 router for a week now and so far am quite pleased. The only snag with installation was my not knowing I needed to get Comcast to recognize a change of router. Tip: not only modem, but router change needs to be flagged to Comcast apparently.I'm pleased with the availability of a local (Ethernet-connected), browser-based config interface; no requirement to install yet another app, although app-based interface is available for remote config (haven't tried it). The configurations options are rich throughout. For example, I really like the ability to select among three WiFi signal levels (and manually select channels if desired). But many more settable options besides. No problem at all with speeds, just what I would expect ... MoreI have been using this TP-Link Archer C7 router for a week now and so far am quite pleased. Good WiFi. Poor features.
6 February 2023

Easy to set up and provides good WiFi speeds at decent range at a good price. The app to control basic features is simple. Printer setup to the USB port is terrible with an amateur looking interface. Printer constantly loses communication and online support has grammar and typographical errors. This network printer setup is a separate download available in English and Chinese. Which leads me to believe this is a Chinese router making my privacy and security suspect. Right now I'm casually researching routers of American branding for reliable network performance and peace of mind.

For the past several years I've relied on Spectrum's Technicolor Router/modem. Well the router part started slowing down and dropping my new laptop. So I took it to a Spectrum store. They replaced it with a ubee modem and a router that I could not log onto thru it's IP. Had to go online thru Spectrum and then I had minimal control of the router settings. I could have lived with that but, it didn't handle our iPhone's & pads. After we had logged in with our password, leave the house, return and it said password incorrect. Passed the password from a connected iPhone to the one that said incorrect password--still got an incorrect password. Reset the iPhones network settings. No change. Took router back to Spectrum for another one thinking I might have got a lemon. ... MoreFor the past several years I've relied on Spectrum's Technicolor Router/modem. Researched routers and a reviewer said this TP-Link worked well with his Mother's Spectrum. So drove 45 minutes each way to pick this up. I can log onto the router via the IP and have full control of it. Set up the same custom SSID and Password that I had used with Spectrum's router. I've had it for a month now and it's worked flawlessly, My WiFi download speed on my new laptop is over 200mps. In fact it's a tad faster than my Ethernet on a desktop. As a bonus, since I will no longer be renting a router for $3.95 a month from spectrum. It will pay for itself in a little over a year.As a second bonus, we can print to our older Brother wireless laser without turning it on and off each day.

TP-Link Archer C7 - Great for OpenWrt
24 June 2021

TP-Link makes great products. Unfortunately they are quick to stop updating the firmware. The Archer C7 is a great value to run OpenWrt given the speed and memory of the hardware. Recommend that anyone listing a C7 includes the version number (available by the model on the bottom label) which would provide people looking to upgrade with OpenWrt the information necessary to confirm it would work. The reason is not all the versions are tested/or will work with OpenWrt. OpenWrt requires some knowledge, but it provides great flexibility with the Archer C7 hardware combination, including virtual lan tagging with the LAN ports. Picture of one main router, with a ethernet port dedicated to a guess network, and second as access point to extend guess wifi to another area.

So far it is working as expected. It replaces my 11 yr old Valet M-10 router. If this unit lives as long it will be a perfect replacement. The sales price was competitive to what I paid for the Valet M-10 originally. This is a plus.It is a bit larger and the three antennas a bit unsightfull compared to the tidiness of the M-10 but all considered, I will rate it a 4 out of 5 stars. The warranty is very skimpy. I would have preferred a 5 year (or better ) replacement guaranty. For a true satisfaction review of the product, it would be more accurate to ask me after five or ten years how the unit was holding up.(This unit has only been functioning just TWO WEEKS. It had better be working flawlessly !!!)Thank you for the opportunity to review this purchase.

Thankfully, it always remains isolated to that one USB drive and has never spread to any other device on my network. But every time I access that USB drive from my computer, my Windows goes total bonkers with malicious virus alerts. I've never had virus issues with this particular USB drive before, and it only started the moment I connected this Router. Suddenly there's new file folders, and zip files loaded into every file directory on the USB drive and Windows is going nuts with virus alerts with every single one of them.I plan to replace it soon with an AC1900 because, my old Cisco Modem is finally starting to give up its own ghost so I need to replace that... so I'll just replace both at the same time.

Works as expected!
20 July 2021

I bought this two weeks again and so far I've been fairly satisfied with it. Installation was quick and easy. As for performance, it was up to expectation. My internet plan supports up to 250 mbps, and when connected via Ethernet, the speed test reported 300 mbps. However, connecting via wifi only reported only 150 mbps (with a single connected device). As for coverage, this device covers my home of 1820 sq ft. and 2 floors really well. I haven't notice any dead spot yet. And as for stability, I haven't gotten any connectivity issues, but granted it's only been a short amount of time used. This would have totally been a 5 stars if not for a slower wifi speed connection, but still a really good product overall for their coverage and ease of installation.
