TP-Link Deco X68 (1-Pack) AX3600 Whole Home Mesh Wifi 6 Router

We've used the TP-Link Deco M5 mesh for over 2 years so were familiar with the app and setup. We needed to upgrade as more of our devices run WiFi 6 AX protocol. Bought this Deco X55 and used the Ethernet wiring in the house as backhaul. Wow! Now getting >800 mpbs Internet speeed in most living spaces on newer phones. Used the spare M5 units to extend coverage to the granny flat and a spare room. Very fast and even the free version of the Homeshield app offers basic parental controls and network management. Has 3 Ethernet ports which us great. Only con is it could have 4 or more ports on one unit that us used as the master. However very reliable and performs better than more expensive AX mesh systems. Highly recommend this model.

Best Router on the Market

A few years ago I switched to Google Nest mesh wifi and have been very pleased until recently. The app no longer offers information about wifi speed and Google seems unwilling/unable to fix it. In the short time I had Nest two of the points died and had to be replaced.I started looking for an alternative and found the TP-Link Deco X55. It get's very good reviews and includes wifi 6 which is a real plus. Of course it doesn't hurt that the system is about half the price of Nest.Now I have no dead spots and faster speed.The only weakness I have found is the app could be more robust, offering more information to help in placement of the points. Perhaps TP-Link will upgrade the app in the near future.

Deco x90, the perfect WiFi router for big spaces

Not sure why the system thinks I have the AX6600, this review is for the X90.After trying a number of router and extender combinations I finally gave in to the lure of mesh networking. I wish I had done it sooner! Whilst I had researched this space over the last couple years, I was waiting for a kit like the deco to come along to fit a sweet spot of performance and price. The X90 does that for me. My link speed is rock is solid, the roaming hasn't let me down and I no longer have to manually fidget between networks to get the best signal in my apartment.The apartment is quite long with thick walls and heavy doors. The units are around 15m away from each other and paint the apartment in solidly wonderful wifi 6. The dedicated backhaul gives me superior performance from the remote unit, with more bandwidth available than my measly 100Mb Internet connection offers.Whilst it's still early days, only a few weeks old, the link has been solid with no drop outs or performance issues even though I have dozens of devices connected simultaneously.The app that controls the units, whilst easy to use, is a little simple for my liking. I would like it to offer a bit more information and control than it currently does. But it does all the basics well. I'm not a fan of having to connect it with a cloud account but it's a negative I'm willing to look past for now.

This was a typical operator error on my part. First I was using a excellent Modem and Router combination (TP-Link CR700) for a year before tempting the mesh system route. We needed to cover our house which is two stories and separate garage. The house had it's own challenges but the garage was over 60 feet from the house and 100 feet from the wireless router/modem. Worked good in the house but no reception in the garage. We did have some blind spots in coverage but over all it worked well. We needed to cover our house which is two stories and separate garage. The house had it's own challenges but the garage was over 60 feet from the house and 100 feet from the wireless router/modem. Worked good in the house but no reception in the garage. We did have some blind spots in coverage but over all it worked well. Then we bought a new TV for the bedroom which was a Toshiba/Fire UHD version that needed a much stronger wireless signal for viewing. That was followed by the pandemic which resulted in my wife and I working at home and she needed to now have wireless capabilities in the garage. So I started with the TP-Link Deco mesh system. First I need to uncouple the bridge used for the router and modem so it acted only as a modem. That took four months to figure out. Next we keep trying to link the garage Deco to the system and it was intermediate and unstable. So I boosted the internet speed from Spectrum and we lived with a unstable system. Finally I had Spectrum come out and take a look since we would go off line every couple of days and I would have to cold boot the modem/router. Their tech who was excellent by the way pointed out a couple of problems from my setup. The first was we needed a faster and newer modem which we got from them. The second was I was using a PlugLink which send signals over the house electrical grid and carries the wifi signal to Decos that were distant from the modem (the garage and master bedroom). The new Spectrum modem would be faster and send a better signal through the Mesh System. All of a sudden everything worked and not drops or need to reboot. The Decos all connected and didn't drop off the network like the old router/modem. The pesky garage received a clear wireless signal. My wife who sometimes had to use her iPhone for conference calls on Zoom or Skype found everything worked perfectly. Just wanted to tell my story and admit that I did not set up the system right but once we did it works really well. Even with the garage studio which is fairly far way from the house.

Setup was easy and not having to worry about which deco to make the main one connected to the router was a nice added bonus. Think I had the first one set up within about 5 mins and then the subsequent deco's within minutes of each other. Each Deco also come with 2 ethernet ports enabling you to connect devices (I connected my TV) directly so as to not rely on WIFI.All in all, a great product which has finally provided me with excellent WIFI coverage over the entire house. If you a struggling to get complete coverage I would highly recommend you give these a try and if, for some reason 3 Deco's are not enough, adding more could not be any simpler.

Most importantly, unless you have made arrangements with your ISP to allow the Deco to act as a DNS server you must set it up in 'Access Point' mode or it will fight with the ISP's router causing all sorts of problems. A significant limitation is that both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz WiFi bands MUST have the same name (SSID), other brands will allow different names for each band. Whilst this is unlikely to be an issue in most set ups, for us it stopped our SONOS system working. I have since discovered that although SONOS creates its own mesh network it also relies on WiFi to connect controllers and portable speakers (Roam, Move). If the SONOS mesh is connected to one Wifi band and your phone decides to connect to the other, you will not be able to control the SONOS system and the portable speakers will disappear from the controllers. For the Deco the only way to resolve this is to turn off one of the bands losing that facility and thus reducing the value of the Deco system.

Great product with great coverage

This system is so easy to set up, took all of 10 minutes from opening to functionality. After multiple complaints to our ISP about constant wifi drop outs, even after we paid for a booster upstairs for the gamer in the house, nothing was helping the constant drop outs even when sitting right next to the modem. We are a modern family with so many gadgets the issue ended up being the 50+ items trying to use and connect to the wifi all the time. Between phones, iPads, computers, laptops, smart tv’s, gaming systems, security systems, HomePods, vacuums, appliances etc we were told a standard modem would only provide “expected quality” for up to 20 items. With this systems we have had zero drop out - even when outside. We had the Telstra Gen 3 WiFi 6 system with 2 boosters and we had dropouts and buffering at all hours of the day and night. The last straw was when I couldn't even watch 5 minutes of a movie without it buffering 4 times. The next day we purchased the TP Link AX3000 mesh sysytem and we haven't looked back. It was so simple to install - download the app, follow the steps and plug in and we were off and running. The only downside was having to reconnect ALL of our devices, lights, appliances etc. You don't realise just how many rely on your internet connection until you do something like this. The TP-Link X55 (AX3600) is a solid choice for our household. We live in a three floor townhouse with 90 degree angled staircases and is soundproofed with thicker walls. Getting a signal from one floor to the next without dead spots is tough. The X55 (3 unit) system replaced a Netgear 7000 which didn't cut it. I first purchased a TP-Link X20 mesh series, but it wasn't powerful enough to reach our home top to bottom. This one does. I highly recommend the TP-Link Deco series if you're looking for an easy, cost-effective, out of the box setup. I had it operating within 15 minutes of opening the box. It can, it seems, easily handle multiple tech items simultaneously; TV, smartphones, laser printers, tablets, whatever you care to throw at it.

Just installed in my house. As compared to the standard COX Panoramic WiFi, AT&T Arris, Linksys E4200, & Motorola NVG589 routers, this solution way outperforms anything I have ever had in my house. It even way outperforms my Linksys E6800 AC1750 Wireless Range Extender solution. All three mesh devices were configured as AP's Access Points, and hardwired ethernet to the primary AT&T U-verse Arris Router. I turned off all WiFi from the AT&T Arris Router and only used the 2.4G & 5G WiFi from the TP-Link Mesh Devices. I thought about using the DHCP routing functions from the TP-Link Mesh, but I needed a few more ethernet ports on them. I also have my AT&T Router connected to two 32-port switches which provide Hardwired Ethernet connections throughout my house. There are ... MoreJust installed in my house.
