Poor quality for the pricea month agoI have owned my Timberline 1300 for 45 days. I have loved it so far. I have used my grill a handful of times. I clean it after every cook to take care of. I cooked a whole brisket July 4th weekend. It turned out fantastic. 13 hours at 200 degrees, pulled it wrapped in butcher paper for another 5 hours at 250. I also had a pan of all day baked beans on the grill at the same time. When I pulled the brisket I turned the temperature up to 300 to finish the beans. Went in side, came back out later and pulled the beans. Best meal we ever had! Went to clean my grill the next day and the bottom left side of the exterior barrel was all bubbled up. I thought it was grease or condensation. Wiped it off and paint just came peeling off. I ... MorePoor quality for the pricea month agoI have owned my Timberline 1300 for 45 days. I spent two hours on the phone with Traeger customer service and got the same pitch everyone else gets. Grease flare up, cosmetic damage, can't help you! This is wrong. How do you sell a grill for $2300.00 that cant with stand heat. I was told my cook data shows when my grill was set to 300 degrees it flared to 400 degrees. So what, the grill can be set to 500 degrees. I have owned high end grills my entire life and have never had paint peel. Now I have a 45 day old very expensive grill that has cosmetic damage I have to live with. Unacceptable, you need a better quality paint with a higher heat tolerance. My request for a new grill was denied. Don't think I can recommend Traeger! My first review posted as anonymous! I put my name and email on the review?

My first cook was flawless! Built sturdy (not light) this thing is heavy duty. The multi-level cooking racks are a very nice feature. I was able to put a full packer brisket on the middle shelf with a drip pan under on the bottom shelf. The pellet hopper holds plenty of pellets and the hopper dump is a very cool feature. The controller is easy to use and easy to read. The WiFi lets you control the whole unit remotely. So far so good. Smoked an excellent brisket on its first cook. I’m looking forward to using it some more. (Only two things #1 it needs a light and #2 the wood board is just for show)

I have had trouble with my touchpad start button from day one; in summary, it has to be worse, before they would send repair parts for a NEW grill. It is a nonresponsive interface issue that occurred immediately at purchase. I work with software and automation for a living, so I know what I am talking about when I say the automation program is poorly written. At the same time, the wifi connection along with the app need large amounts of attention. I fumble with connection issues, and I do this for a living; using a Traeger should be a stress-free and unique experience. This is my second and likely last Traeger, as I see the quality goes down while the prices go up. I built my own controller and program before giving it to my neighbor, and I get to smell my success ... MoreI have had trouble with my touchpad start button from day one; in summary, it has to be worse, before they would send repair parts for a NEW grill. We were so excited to upgrade to a Timberline 1300 last week after having a Lil Tex Elite for 8 years and loving it. Our excitement quickly turned to disappointment and frustration with the very first use. We live in an area of Wyoming where winters are long and cold, so we were very excited about the double wall insulation of the Timberline 1300. The insulation and the door gasket are somewhat defeated though by the fact that the door doesn't close all of the way. I'm also very disappointed that when we rolled the grill to move it one of the wheels fell off and all of the bearings came out, so now our brand new almost $2,000 grill is propped up with a block of wood. The icing on top of the cake is that Trager claims that the Timberline 1300 will cook 6 pork butts ... MoreWe were so excited to upgrade to a Timberline 1300 last week after having a Lil Tex Elite for 8 years and loving it. The icing on top of the cake is that Trager claims that the Timberline 1300 will cook 6 pork butts at a time. This is very true for grill space, but the grease system is only sized for 3. On our first and only cook we cooked six pork butts. We started with a new empty liner, but I came around the corner half way through the cook to a huge puddle of grease on the concrete under the grill. When the grill cooled and I was able to investigate I found that the liner had filled completely and run over into the tray and then all over the concrete. The timberline seemed like such an upgrade over our Lil Tex Elite, but so far only the controller seems better, and that was not worth the price.
I made the mistake of upgrading my Iron Wood 650 to the Timberline 850 in January 2022. This grill has been nothing but headaches since I purchased it, broken casters, faulty temp probe, Wifire Connection Issues and now Main Controller Malfunctioning. I had my Iron Wood 3 years without one issue. That Iron Wood was bullet proof and getting sold on "The Top of The Line Grill from Traeger" was the worst purchase I've made. When it does work it's great but getting it to work is another issue, full of frustration and struggle. I've been on the phone with 3 different service/techs and I'm still waiting for parts to be delivered........ It's like owning a Porsche with no engine.... what good is it if you can only look at it and not drive it ? Don't waste your money on this unit buy the Iron Wood 650 or keep your Iron Wood if you're thinking of upgrading. Not the grill you think it is !!!!!
This is a grill I really really wanted to love. I gave my ‘lil Tex (which I loved) to a friend and upgraded to this model. After about four cooks with my grill, I noticed the powder coating peeling from the barrel. Notified Traeger, which does have a cool support system via the app, and for some reason they sent me a new backplate, like that would fix the issue. After paying almost $3k for a grill having paint peeling off the barrel like this, is simply unacceptable. After months of ‘support’ calls, I finally stopped calling. They win. It shouldn't really effect the end result - right? A year later and this thing is still the gift that keeps on giving. This grill is the butt of many jokes with my friends. It shouldn't really effect the end result - right? A year later and this thing is still the gift that keeps on giving. This grill is the butt of many jokes with my friends. I have completely ruined great meals at more than one function. The biggest issue is the grease evacuation system. To think that the grease will travel from back to front, then from right to left, then from front to back again is insane. I spend more time cleaning this machine than cooking on it. Then to have meals consistently ruined by flare ups, is the final straw. The only thing worse than the grill is the support. Talk is cheap when it comes to the 3 yr warranty.
My wife and I researched this grill for well over a year. The Timberline 1300 is exactly what we hoped for. I have breathing problems that require me to not be over any grill, let alone one that may produce smoke. Other than igniting the grill and adding pellets, I cooked two whole Boston butt roasts for over 14 hours last weekend and didn't have to leave my chair. From the Traeger app, I can set temperature, timer, and temperature probe alarms. I even checked on my grill while grocery shopping, just to see how it was going. The pellet alarm let me know when I'm down to 25% in the hopper. We had the entire family over for pulled pork and they are still talking about how good it was. The pellet alarm let me know when I'm down to 25% in the hopper. We had the entire family over for pulled pork and they are still talking about how good it was. Setup was super easy; download the Traeger app, turn the grill on, use your phone camera with a QR code inside the pellet hopper, and I was good to go.There are two things, both around the pellet hopper, that I would change. First, the angled metal inside the pellet hopper doesn't readily facilitate the pellets to the auger and there is a safety guard that makes it hard to push the pellets to the other side. I have "sacrificed" a narrow wooden spoon from the kitchen, which solved the pellet-pushing problem. The other thing is that the pellet discharge area at the back of the grill doesn't easily allow you to place a bucket under it; the back wheel is in the way. Also, the pellet discharge hole is higher than the bottom of the pellet hopper; therefore, you have to use the handy wooden spoon to shove pellets out the discharge hole. It's a two-person endeavor.I love my Traeger and would have purchased it again, even with the pellet issues. It is a blessing to be able to grill without having breathing issues!!
The Timberline 1300 has ruined my Traeger experience. I purchased a Pro 22 originally and absolutely loved it. I cooked everything on that grill. I hosted, neighborhood cookouts with 50 plus people, having to cook items ahead to manage with the smaller grill. It was awesome, I was your typical Traeger fanatic always talking about my grill and probably have sold 10 to family and friends.Traeger released the new D2 models and I eventually went all in on the 1300. The issue is the Timberline series has a very poor grease management system. They have little slope on this model's drip tray. Then there is a 34" wide grease trough along the front of the grill to catch all the grease from that tray. Whenever you cook above 300 with this model, you run the risk of a grease fire. It's really unfortunate because I never had any issues with the Pro 22. I bought a Pro 575 more recently, and have had no issues with that one either.Sort these reviews and read all the fire complaints. It's a major issue and essentially keeps me from using the grill for anything but smoking. It's a real shame to have bought the top of the line model at the time and not be able to rely on it and use it. I highly recommend if you want a Traeger, to get the Pro series or Ironwood series. They are more reliable in my experience.
I am very frustrated right now with Traeger. I spent $1,800 dollars on a Timberline 1300 about 2.5 months ago, and I am on my 3rd grill now. The first two had paint chipping off in the exact same location after the initial seasoning. So, instead of refunding my money, or I asked for a different type of grill, they are sending me my 3rd Timberline 1300. So, my 3rd time of putting it together (1.5 hrs every time) 3rd time throwing away the giant box and all the cardboard, and now having to get rid of my 2nd pallet that they ship it on from Canada because there is none in the US apparently. But, most importantly, I have spent $1,800 dollars and not had a functioning grill in 6 weeks! Ridiculous that you spend this kind of money on something that doesn't work! Pros- The 1300 has a great presence to it without being too big and overall looks sharp. The construction of the main cook chamber is extremely heavy duty and insulated well. The smoke barely leaks out of the front or side of the grill and instead is all funneled out the back of the grill to hold heat extremely well. Had no problem holding 450-500 degrees in sub 30 degree weather. The grill grates are also heavy duty steel which was a welcome sign coming from smokers that had cheap cast iron grates.Cons- 1. Not sure what they were thinking with the front shelf. It's useful to maybe rest your beer or lean a tray against but is only 3 inches deep and isn't really useful. 2. No interior light when you open the main cook chamber makes it extremely difficult if you're ... MorePros- The 1300 has a great presence to it without being too big and overall looks sharp. For a cooker with 3 racks and tons of space, it's odd they wouldn't include this in a flagship grill. 3. No ash dump - They completely fixed this in the Timberline XL, but kind of weird they had no solution when much cheaper grills were providing ash dump-outs years ago.
